We are on The Big Island vacationing. We got the same last night into this morning. It finally cleared around 11:30am. So windy last night w/ 60mph winds! 😕
I rained really hard the night before and this must have been the debris that went in to the streams that flowed in to the canal. It only looked like that on this end where the water just sits.
The world War 2 war museum. Itself to be called battery Randolph. I grew up in Waikiki and I remember going there all the time. Is it still open? It's on the corner of alamoana and Saratoga i think. By the way I bought my first sword at where you use to work in the royal hawaiian shopping center
Usually after a few days it's okay.. It's only if there's a heavy rain. Sometime you're right it may take a week to clear. The news will usually tell you if there is unusual amounts of bacteria and to stay out of the water other wise people just wait 2 to 3 days. Normal rains people are usually in the water the next day.
If you go on the city's website of Honolulu, you can actually sign up for an email alert system on swimming in the oceans and stuff. It will alert you on the bacterial levels. 🥰
That canel is dirty to start with. Although I saw fish eating stuff along the walls, is it true there was a time if you fell in to get tetenious shots?
Well.. I have heard of people who had open cuts went in to the Ala Wai canal cause they were paddling and had to step in to the water and their cut got infected. So I'm sure treatment of some kind is necessary sometimes but they have been cleaning it up by dredging and throwing in genki ball which has good bacteria which has been helping clean it up.
The Ala Wai Canal is man made and its purpose was to drain the rice paddies and swamps in the Waikiki area, back in the early days. It served its purpose, but unfortunately, it wasn’t engineered enough to prevent debris buildup or stagnant water. I would imagine that the situation can be rectified, but surely it will cost some big bucks…..

Wow..., that's the Ala Wai Canal? My goodness. I have never seen it like that!
I rained really hard the night before and this must have been the debris that went in to the streams that flowed in to the canal. It only looked like that on this end where the water just sits.
Ala Wail is looking a little yucky for sure. I used to run down the Ala Wai, starting at the zoo, everyday when I lived in Honolulu.
We saw the canal. So much trash and debris! This storm today is pretty crazy. Lots of flooding in Waikiki. We're flying out tonight 😢
Did you make it out? I saw you're flight was cancelled?
Could you do a tour of battery Randolph?
where is that?
When it rain the drain all go to the canal….

Is it safe to swim in the water off Waikiki say a week or so after the rains?
