Excellent video. It's all about the chase vehicle. All the other tutorials just show how to turn the trailer into the spot, but never mentioned anything about bringing the towing vehicle back inline. This is where all the confusion comes into play when you're new. You get the trailer in, but your tow vehicle is all crooked, and as you try to straighten it out, your trailer swings out of place, and the sweats start to come out, and the cussing starts. I've learned that as soon as you see the trailer going in the direction that you want, start to straighten out your tow vehicle slowly.

I happened across your video and I’m so happy I did. Leave it to a Canadian to get to the point and explain things clearly and simply. I’ve been trailering horses and my small RV for years, and I picked up some good tips today. Your graphics, toy truck and trailer, and gaming steering wheel, really helped visualize backing up trailers into narrow spots. Your explanations were clear and made a lot of sense. Thank you so much! Mercí‼️😊

OMG, thank you so much for this. Very helpful. Pretty much a newbie for my travel trailer, and have backed into camp sites successfully all but one time. That time, I had to maneuver it in two different directions, two different turns. And there were people watching, they came out of their rv's to watch and make snide comments. luckily the gentleman next door to my site, offered to back it in for me. He did it beautifully, and then told me he was a professional truck driver. If felt somewhat better after that. I have to say, I didn't try to converse or make nice with those others who made the snide comments during our stay there.

Great video. I'm a truck driver also, so I was watching this video with "critical eyes"..nice job!! If I may, I would like to also suggest that new RVs go out and buy some cheap orange cones and take them to a wide open area to practice backing before going on a trip. When I got my CDL (trucker's license), we had 3 weeks of driving in a practice lot before they would take us on the road. Having the visual and then being able to actually do what we saw was a great way to sharpen the skills.

Best illustration i have seen to date! Excuses not needed for the toys because they are a scale model of what is actually happening! Out of desperation, i downloaded a game called "Cargo Parking". It requires you to back a farm tractor with trailer into a highlighted spot. You turn the steering wheel with your finger and you only have backward and forward gear. I think what makes backing up so hard is the point of rotation (the truck-trailer hitch point) is moving. If it was stationary, it would be just like drawing a circle with a compass. but with the point of rotation moving, the back of your trailer is actually drawing an ellipsoid, which is quite hard to picture. I am a newby and cant back my 42' fiver even into my driveway, but i always look at the trailer tires. the path the trailer tires are going is the exact path the trailer, or at least the "center" of the trailer is going. Thanks again for the detailed, on point, analysis!!

I have had wrong thinking about where to position when you approach the site. I always thought you should be in the middle of the road but you clearly showed that you should be hugging the site side. I thought this was pretty lame at first, but I really like seeing it from a 'birdseye' point of view. One thing you might put in is about OVERCORRECTION. After putting my trailer in the driveway by myself (and only having taken the trailer out a couple of times), at the end of my ordeal, I finally realized my problem was overcorrecting. It is really hard to hold yourself back from turning that wheel all the way the other direction when the trailer is going wrong. You did mention slow, small turns, but it might be good to emphasize that a bit in there somewhere. Newbies, like me, tend to freak out and overcorrect, haha!

Great Video. I loved your level of detail. I have not perfected steering wheel CHASE on the reverse back process. As 1st time solo owner/backup driver I have towed for 2 yrs now with 14 ft Aliner Ascape camper that jack knifes quickly.
As a solo camper, some nights my mind shuts down after a long drive just as I begin to back into my camp site. To the campers already setup and watching, I say "I have arrived for your nightly entertainment". And everyone gets to laugh along with me.
As a visual reminder I put a diagram on my car's sun visor with wheel position and which way the camper will back.
If you ever redo this video, place your toy steering wheel on the table in front of the toy truck/camper and rotate the toy steering wheel to give the user a birds eye view.
    Thank you for this video!

This video is super helpful. I am going out to practice today again. The first time I did it, it was so overwhelming but after watching this video, I think I have a better understanding of the concept as you broke it down so thoroughly. Thank you!

Thank you so much. I am about to get my first small trailer (17'). This video lays out clearly how to approach backing up.

Great video! I hate some that simply say do the opposite of what you normally do when backing with a trailer. I don't really need to think when just backing up a vehicle. So the "do the opposite" means I first have to think of what the normal is! To much thinking in the heat of the moment. The way you advise is much simpler! The advise on a hard turn to "chase" the RV around sounds great. Can't wait to try it!

Great video with some tips for myself the driver and my partner as a spotter. I've had some hard times in Turkey Point PP wit a 36' 5th wheel, as its tight with narrow roads and lots of trees.

Holy moly! Thank you! Thanks for little details I needed that I never got from other videos. I’ve always made sure I had a pull through spot, thanks to you I’m ready to go out and practice backing in! I’ll have many more options. Thanks again!
