- What a day down here at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park!!
The moment I've been waiting for a long time, to film the track session of what might be the closest racecar to a 787b in terms of feel, drive and sound. This 4-rotor, 26B-powered Rx-7, driven by Stuart Gray in the GTR NZ racing series, is truly what dreams are made of!
That sequential straight-cut transmission is honestly the cherry on the cake, in this video you'll see and hear this majestic Rx-7 climbing up the positions in an outstanding comeback from the bottom of the grid (handicap race).

Mazda 787B used a Porsche synchromesh transmission. This was done for fuel efficiency.
Y love you mazda rx7 you n1😊😊
Awesome build guys! Love the sound of a 4 rotor
There's nothing like it!
the sound of a 4 rotor engine mixed with those straight cut gears is too much
Definitely a sound worth sharing, glad you enjoyed the video!
🤌
@@racecars.universe yeah it was awesome thanks for the content mate
It seemed like he was babying it at the beginning. I thought they might have still been on the formation lap. He was shifting so early. A lot of lift and coast. He picks up the pace a little later. I was surprised to see the Corvette pull away so quickly at the beginning.
Yeah usually first laps are sort of a warm up, this car was still testing a few things for next season. If you enjoyed that Corvette you'll absolutely love the special feature I did of that racing series here: ruclips.net/video/oRtL46pTz3Q/видео.htmlsi=B-bL4mm6r4PdqcxA
What kind of gearboxe is that?
Didn't know there are ones where you just pull straight back & forth.
It's called sequential. It has straight cut gears that engage quickly whether it's up or downshifting
@@racecars.universe ah I had heard of sequential gearboxes but did not know how they worked. I may have to look into that.
Glad being able to bring some knowledgebase to you guys watching!
@@herrcobra4144 fun fact , the euro e36(no us model has SMG-sequential manual gearbox), E46/E60-E63 M3s all had SMG. SMG was miles better in the E60 M5/M6s but still prone to failure due to overheating and boiling hydraulic fluid in the SMG pump(electronically and hydraulic operated w/o clutch pedal). But it's an incredible experience and I owned an 02 & 04 E46 M3 w/SMG. You could change how aggressive or soft you wanted the SMG to shift gears and behave. Cars equipped with it are actually cheaper than the manuals but now climbing up in price due to crazy demand for the e46 m3s. Just thought to add some fun info on factory equipped sequential gearboxes.

❤❤❤
Thanks for watching!
Nice car ....but the gearbox is to loud ..😮😮😢
Well it's a racecar...
@@racecars.universe the Mazda 787 is Not so loud.... Porsche gearbox i guess...!!!
Straight cut gears, less friction lose.
High performance only kind of thing.
