I don’t think I had ever seen this full conference. Or if I have, it’s been at least a decade or 2. So many gems of truth in this. I love when he loosens up a bit when talking about when he signed his initial record contract. It’s also really interesting how people always tried to get him to talk bad about hip hop and rap, but he was about lifting his people up. Like, yes, he was criticizing the monotonous nature of music at the time, but he connected it back to record companies capitalizing on new creations to create a mass-produced commercial sound. But independent artists in any genre are going to constantly evolve and create new genres since their creativity isn’t restricted by a marketing team. When the exec asked him if hip hop was going to last, and P said, “are Black people gonna last?” 🔥 A record company’s interest in a particular sound or their success with selling a certain type of music might not last, but you can’t stop culture. By this time, P fully understood hip hop as an entire culture rather than just a genre. And you can’t stop the ever-evolving creativity of an entire people. Like P said in Black Muse, “people that created rhythm & blues, rock & roll, and jazz, so you know we’re built to last.” 💜
Talking about releasing his music only on the internet all the way back then always amazes me. He was so ahead of his time. I also hate when people called him weird. I never thought that. He was a true artist and creative thinker, and that made him different from the typical person, but not weird. Also, I love his laugh when that MJ question is asked. Too funny. 💜💜💜
You got it. Way back then they had a problem with him. He recorded his music at Paisley Park so he paid for it and they still wanted to charge him which wasn't fair
For the record, you are right Michael and P were friends and used to meet up and hang out with each other and just jam..Its the media that pitted them against each other so they just used it to their advantage...🕊💜O(+>🕊🌹🕊🌹🕊🌹🕊🌹🕊🌹🕊🌹🕊💜O(+>🕊💜
I could listen to that man talk 24/7/365 🫠 Not only because of that beautiful velvet voice, but because of moments like this when he used his voice to talk about seeking God about decisions and studying Scripture... *sigh* When you visit Paisley Park, you'll see the hallway he's talking about here. At the end of it, there's a handwritten copy of Prince's announcement that he would be using his birth name again. You'll also see "The Egg," the building he was talking about to feed everybody who works at Paisley Park. Sadly, he never finished it; But what a Lovely idea he had! I also appreciate the honorable way he handled questions about topics that could potentially be strife-bait (his marriage, other artists, hypothetical fist fights, etc.). Imagine if everybody chose to respond to questions/gossip about other people with so much genuine Love, integrity, class, & honor. 🙌 Have a blessed weekend! 💜
💜 thank you I have only seen half of this interview years ago. I wanted to share with a friend the video you posted where Prince harmonizes with his guitar.. can you tell me where that was he performed at? What show was it ?💜
I was listening 🎧 to this music 🎶 teacher that was saying how Prince used 3 chords and manipulated THEM into different sounds that's why nobody CAN truly Play ▶️ his music
This was BS…he was on his shit again, fooling around with Mani while literally banishing Mayte’ to Marabella because she refused to convert to JW doctrine🙄
