This is one of my favorite Velvet Underground songs. I love that Nirvana covered it as they are one of my favorite bands. I am so happy I can say that I saw Nirvana play in 1993. It was my first show, I was 13. Memories...
Agreed w everything- I love the video but this isn’t the best recording they did of this song, IMO. Maybe that was on purpose- but yeah, these are two of my very favorite bands... Such a shame.
I love Kurt's voice, it's such a unique voice. People who say that he can't sing are a bunch idiots, he had an iconic voice. He sings with passion, anger, dissatisfaction, grief, regret- he had so much emotion in his voice. He was an original never to be duplicated, he had it all.... This world just wasn't made for him. I'm glad he was here, his music brought comfort to many people.
i bet u there's kurts songs locked away like van Gogh paintings...I'd hope to hear em. always have them wanting more. .every nirvana song is effen good
+Floyd Roose oh...they're far out need the time to freakin study great musicians like Velvet Underground, they make great tunes and awsome name. seems like every tune sampled by nirvana just becomes a nirvana song...david bowie "man who sold the world.

LOVE this! It hits the prostate of my brain, ...makes my sick brain soothe. It shines beams of spectral rays into the darkness that has taken residence there. I am IN LOVE with this song, ...again. After all these years, we found our way back to each other, ...& just when I needed it to.
Even though this is/was a Velvet Underground song, I always think of him and this version when I hear it. It was his birthday yesterday, he'd be 48 now if you can believe it. I still miss him and Nirvana. They were our Beatles and it didn't happen again.
that undoubtedly would've been awesome. i love one man and his guitar all the old old country blues stuff etc. but not in replacement of their final form which was reached with in utero. that and a few in/out cesticide stuff like the D7 cover. that sound _was_ nirvana, to me
I love this video so much, the black and white and the repetition of the clips make it so creative. Also the mysteriousness and the meaning of the song give it such a strong vibe, it's amazing.
charmedmisery Does he really? I can't find anything on Van Morrison doing that song. To be honest, I was just making stuff up to mess with the guy who called Here Comes the Sun "another Velvet Underground song."
Kurt cobain's music was the essence of pure depression. people who say he was murdered just can't understand what it's like to be trapped inside your own brain.
I agree, as much as he influenced me, when I was thirteen , I was yougn and impressionable, and I still associate his music, with my youth, everyone my age loved Nirvana , esp after he killed himself. Having said all that if you are a big nirvana fan, many of the lyrics are negative, heroin references(got so high i scratched till i bleed) and suicide is mentioned a lot. Probally not the best influences for a young, easily influenced , impressionable teenager, but hey its still a part of me and I still feel remorse over Kurts struggle,- as he influenced so many young ppl . point being use your inspiration to inspire positive things
I think the point to take from Kurts legacy would be that there's no such thing as a "chosen hero". You don't have to be physically / mentally strong to be a hero; anyone can succeed at anything - he was clearly an awkward guy with a lot of problems, and I believe that his suicide was an attempt to tell people "you don't want to be like me, I'm no hero, I'm not any more special than anyone else" - he was a true individualism advocate
***** did you grow up during the seattle era or remember it? yup he was very individualistic and something my generation (I think) should have learned from the whole "grunge" scene. Kurt did his own thing, I spent much of my erly teens and now as im older i can find more info about his life, bips, documentaries, etc and info i didnt know when i was younger. A point i got from Kurt was never be ashamed if you are poor , its kay to be that way if you have no other chice. Kurt wore "grungier" clothes because he was poor, and he never changed when he became a multi millionaire. so at the very least dont be ashamed to be poor if you are-Kurt seemed to like the days before nevermind best, as after nevermind he became more and more into heroin with his increased money, at one time it was 400 $ a day. regardless many people kll themselves everyday; and for some reason he didnt want to attention, yet he influenced so many people and they became infatuated with Kurts story-including me. Nirvana was my number one band when I was 13-14
Andy...i know exactly how you feel. Brilliant song...fitting video....thank you,,,whoever put this together...thanks....will be coming back again and again...
OscarDoesEverything Nope, because subjectivity is relative to ones mind. For example, you may like Kurt Cobain's voice and I might hate it. That's like making you eat a food that you don't like the taste of. So yeah, there's no reason to debate.
this has been what i really needed this week. ive already put in 60 hours with another day to go and i needed something abstract and off the beaten path to put things in line for me. from begining to end, this video and song relaxed me.

It can get very complicated to categorize certain bands as 'grunge' because a lot of the alternative bands that were very popular during the heights of the grunge era are lumped into that genre. All Grunge bands are alternative, but not all alternative bands are true grunge. Also, some 'grunge' bands such as Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam have songs that are definitely described as grunge-sounding, but other songs that are more poppy or very non-grunge-sounding. So I think the Grunge label can be very limiting and not do a band full-justice to accurately describe their diverse sound. A band like Radiohead has some songs that have definite grunge-elements, but they have a very unique sound that distinguishes them from the 'main' grunge bands and almost fit into a genre by themselves. But, I would label them alternative before I would label them grunge. However, if you listen to almost any 'grunge' satellite station, you will hear some Radiohead songs, so I guess you could consider them grunge. It always kills me that we will Never hear his voice ever again. I used to be hooked on Nirvana and found every song, b Side, unreleased tracks, and covers....I got down that I found all of them. I wish you were still around Kurt.
Sometimes when I feel really down, about anything at all, this song comes to mind. I have no idea why, but it's good. It's soothing and it calms me down.
I totally understand what you mean! It's like there is a lot of great music, but there is one style of music, and one band, that makes you feel like coming home... Like they really sing to you. And no matter how many songs and bands and styles I like, in the end I always come back to Nirvana. I can listen to other bands for a month, and then suddenly feel the need to hear Kurts voice, Dave's drum and Krists bass...

Yeah, sometimes. Nothing beats the Velvet's though. Good cover nonetheless.
