I also have a stella 20k & a 14k spooled with 80 lb & 65 lb respectively awaiting topshot. These can be used with my 8'2" Shimano Ocea plugger. Havent had the pleasure yet but Mike at my local Outdoor Pro did the pairing. Cant wait to use.

Bought a ghost hunter 350 acid wrapped to pair with an ocea jigger 4000 w/ 40 lb drag for jigging SoCal. Cant wait to use it.

Really liked how you used your hands to block everything

Could you just use 80 pound power pro(not hollow core) and 120 fluoro with a FG knot?

It's 2020, why would I use hollow core to attach my casting leader when I can use solid core line, that same bobbin and use a PR knot for my casting leader, am I missing something? Loved the video, I genuinely want to know, because I'm setting up to go for tuna. With a PR knot approaching 98% of line breaking strength, what advantage does the hollowcore splice provide?

its much smoother and casts easier, allowing for longer leaders that can be wound on your spool. with a PR knot or an FG they go through your guides less smoothly

Hey man, sorry for another question. Do you think 100lb power pro spectra solid line with an FG knot to 130lb seaguar would work with cape cod blue fin tuna popping? I know Hollow main line with a spliced in fluorocarbon leader is the preferred method allowing for 100% break strength, and because of this video I went with the #100 courtland to #130 seaguar and love it on my main setup. I just wanted a secondary setup that I could maybe pass to a friend or have as a backup that was a little more budget friendly.
I have some regular 100lb powerpro spectra solid braid and was just curious about the ability to connect that with some of the leftover 130 premiere I have as that backup.
Thanks for the input as it is very much appreciated

Yes absolutely. If anything it’s overkill. I have 100 spliced to 130 floor on my heavy setup and it’s a little stiff. Typical grab my lighter setup with 80 braid to 100 floro unless I know there are bigger fish around. FG know if good when you learn how to do it properly.

Really sweet video man, insightful and well thought out. Can I ask you, what’s your opinion on the Stella 18k vs a Daiwa Dogfight or Expo 8000? And for tuna popping do you prefer the the SW model or the high gear ratio version?

Hi thanks for your comment. This is a great question and one you can drive yourself crazy with. Although i hate to say it comes down to personal preference. Your talking about the top reels in the market each can handle the task. For me it came down to past experience. I need to be comfortable casting my setup for 8 hours and prefer the feel of the Stella. The Diawa reels just feel solid and I prefer the finesse feel the Stella gives me. From past experience I trust the Stella to get the job done. Also have to take into account servicing needs. I have fished Diawa and Shimano exclusively and have had more maintenance needs on my Diawa reels then Shimano over the years. In the US the Shimano service is exceptional so i know I can have the reel serviced and back to me in a few days. I would love to fish them side by side to give more detailed analysis but my experience is with the Stella over the other two.
The 18k is a higher GR which is preference for a dedicated popping setup. Would look for lower GR if i was planning on doing more jigging.

Currents Fishing Network yeah man I have both the Saltiga 6500h and the Stella 14000xg and I just always enjoy others outlooks on tackle. Thank you for such a detailed response dude

ok!....the guys USA talk about that shimano platinum service works fine and fast!
The gear ratio is important but what is more the retrieve IPT! that depends RATIO+DIAMETER spool. bg8000 picks up more line than stella 18k: 135cm vs 129 (and has less ratio!5.3 vs 5.7)....or saltiga8000 same ratio but 144cm
stella 18k would need 6.3 ratio to pick up 56"

Do u still have the reel. I just ordered a 14000, in that year. Not the new model. I like the gold handle.
