    Captain Chris, I have a serious question from a relatively new angler. I felt the speedmaster in person and fell in love but my question is. Why would you put 80lb braid on it then a 60 lb topshot? Wouldn't 65lb braid make more sense you would be able to get more line capacity at a similar pound rating. Because would the 60 lb mone snap before the braid anyway? Also, why get a 100lb rod when you only have 80lb braid? Thanks for the help Chris.

    • @reaperfishingnj8623
      @reaperfishingnj8623  Год назад

      I have used 65 before and i actually like the 80 a bit better. It's easier to handle. With braid we get plenty of line capacity. Typically you'll break off the leader and neither the topshot or mainline braid.

    Why uni to swivel and not Palomar? I'm assuming because it's easier to pull tight or because you can't tie Palomar to the leader end of swivel if it's already tied on?

    • @reaperfishingnj8623
      @reaperfishingnj8623  7 месяцев назад

      You are assuming correct. It's way easier to tie the palomar to the hook. kinda annoying on the barrel swivel. in the heat of it all the clinch is so much easier to tie to the barrel in my opinion

    I’m up a little north from you in RI getting into offshore tuna. For chunking, hesitating between getting a few Penn 16VSX setups or the Penn fathom 40nld2 setups. Which one do you recommend for chunking?
    Also, What do you run for trolling reels? We run Penn 50w.

    • @reaperfishingnj8623
      @reaperfishingnj8623  2 года назад +2

      I would get two of each if you can afford it. But can't beat the 40 NLD2 for the money. Great bang for the buck. not a single hiccup on them over all these seasons of beating them up!!
      We run Penn 50's and Shimano TLD 50s in the canyons. If I know it's mostly small YF I'll add in some Penn 30s. We have zero 80s or 130s.

      It would get way way too expensive and overkill. If you're using a 50 for just chunking only then I would spool it with just 50 or 60 pound mono. For trolling almost all of us use hollowcore braid backing and then an 80-130 pound mono "topshot". This increases our line capacity by A TON!!!
