Nice to see Robby properly clean-up the excess adhesive/sealant to produce a clean and tight seal. I have seen so many aftermarket install jobs (inc on our own caravan) where the installer just smudges the sealant on with their thumb. A year later the thin edges start to lift and mold forms under them. It takes just a few extra minutes to do it right, as he did. He also took the extra few minutes and installed new crimps instead or wrapping the wires around old ones (again a common bodge). Keep Robby in your phone book, he is clearly a professional proud of his work!
It is a very helpfull extra for your Caravan Karen. I have also installed a wired camera to my caravan and i connected with continious power (not only with reverse light) so i can see what happens behind when i 'm driving and off course when i 'm reversing! Nice video. Stavros from Greece
Very handy to have, even just to see what's behind you like that letter box or if someone's about to walk behind the caravan when you reverse into your spot. Considering of getting one now too :) As for your dirty hands: look up Fumoto Drain Valve. It's a little tap that screws into your oil sump and replaces your bolt. Had it on my car for four years and I love it. Makes oil changes so much easier and cleaner! Cost about AUD 35.
Yes, I've found it particularly helpful when driving, being able to really see who is behind me. Oh, good to know about the Fumoto Drain Valve. That oil really didn't want to leave my nails, haha
askvor I sure hope that valve is in a 90^, rather straight, I had an oil change company put one on and NOT TELLING ME, well, that valve tore off on a raised manhole over, loosing all the oil, OH, WAS I PISSED, CHEERS FROM NJ, USA
Installed a "back up" camera on my trailer that interfaces with my Garmin GPS. I can toggle between the dash cam and the back up camera. It became necessary after my son, Dave, my official back up guide, became distracted by a very attractive young lady walking by and backed me into a tree. No damage. I was going to buy one of those " watch my behind not her's" bumper stickers but he felt so bad I didn't have the heart to
I brought the Haloview BT7 system which requires no live feed so totally wireless and can be moved to help hook up and wheel alignment to fix clamps that go through the spokes plus easily transferred to my trailer or any other vehicale or location even used it to watch wildlife.
Lucky you, receiving that great gift. That’ll make your life a tad easier, once you’ve master using it of course 😉 Yet again, another very helpful, friendly gentleman turns up, offering his services. What a nice guy and great workmanship 🌈
@@TravellingK i bet you have...but Girl you can still back up that thing like a pro. Which by the way i wish i could back up a trailer or camper like you can...you are my Hero.👍😁🙂

A Juggler On my present car,,it has a sonar thing that beeps, and the clover you get,,it beeps faster,,but I saw an reversing kit, for about US$ 100, so the rear license plate frame is replaced by this, the camera , is on the TOP of the plate, it is wireless to the display, , as you are in the car, just wave over it to turn it on. , powered up, in CIG LIGHTER, works great., Cheers from NJ ,USA
I just installed the Haloview 5111 to my trailer. My rig is almost 50 feet in length including my truck so I used two auxiliary antennas although I am not sure I needed them. I wired it into my marker lights. It works very well.
Great video thanks Karen. You might want to consider the legality of not having caravan mirrors on still. In Australia, at this time, a camera is not a legal substitute for mirrors. Cheers
I think they are pretty relaxed about that rule in NZ??? Pretty random I know. But you're right that it would probably be a good idea to still have it.
@@TravellingK how is the camera working for you a year later? I'm looking for a camera to attach onto the back of my camper trailer which will add another 4 meters
Chris Thackray And if you also note at the end of the video, Karen is using it to check for vehicles behind her while driving. Yes its a reversing camera but it has other uses also.
You mentioned not needing your towing mirrors now. I presume NZ laws are similar to Oz, even if you have a rear facing camera, by law you must have towing mirrors on both sides of your car to cover as many black spots as possible.
You know, I don't think that's a strict rule in NZ? I just Googled and saw this "If you can't see behind with your rear-view mirrors, you may need to fit a special mirror." But you're right that it's probably a good idea to still use it.
Not sure why you call the light on your number plate a park light? reversing cams connect to reversing lights so they are only on when you revers the light on your number plate is on when your lights are on.
Very useful video as I`m about to do the same project on my caravan, though I`m also going to install at the same time parking sensors as an additional aid. Both of these systems will be wireless - Do you think that the two systems would interfere with eachother? Or will one being a video signal and one simply triggering a set of LED`s be enough of a difference to not be a problem.
Hi Karen I'm in the UK and have tried to sign up as one of your Patreons but after putting in my name and email I can't get past the revolving circle at the bottom. Can I not sign up from the UK? Keith
HI K I like this video blog on the reversing camera I have thought about fitting one too, but I was scratching my head where to pick up the constant live feed for the camera I see you have picked yours up from the caravans number plate light, is this constant LIVE or do you have to have your vehicle lights ON when using camera ?
Aha, that's cheating !!!! In the UK it is an offence to use any video device when driving forwards, i.e. you are still required to have the extension mirrors and have the screen turned off whilst in forward motion... That's why vehicles fitted with reversing camera's only work when actually in reverse gear... My favourite are ones that put the display in the interior mirror, somewhere you would automatically look when reversing !!! Keep up the great content K
Great video - thanks. Being on lockdown Im looking to improve my van and like you I am concerned about drilling holes in my van! So this is helping with the confidence to do it. One quick question if I may...you wired it to th tail light for power...does this mean you have to have your headlights on for the camera to work or is it drawing power regardless. Thanks in anticipation and keep the shiny side up
Yes, I was so nervous drilling a hole. But seems to be good a year on! I turn my car's park lights on to have the camera working and doesn't seem to affect my cars battery.
nice video, but, sorry the camera is not wireless, if you have to attach it to WIRES. Just the connection between the smartphone and the camera is obviously wireless. Missleading title

Great video thanks Karen. You might want to consider the legality of not having caravan mirrors on still. In Australia, at this time, a camera is not a legal substitute for mirrors. Cheers
As far as what I have checked (before getting a wireless camera for our caravan) NZ law does not require towing mirrors.
I think they are pretty relaxed about that rule in NZ??? Pretty random I know. But you're right that it would probably be a good idea to still have it.
@@TravellingK I do have mirrors, but camera is great for not backing too close (or too far)
Seems fom comments NZ is more advanced if they allow cameras to replace towing mirrors. Well done NZ, wake up Australia.
I'm not sure if that's the case... I could drive with no mirror AND no rare camera!
Great video, thanks
Installed one on the back of our teardrop trailer up high and powered by the marker lights, and it in effect becomes the rear view mirror.

How big is the camera ? Would it be too big for a small sedan ? And how does it preform in rain and poor weather
