  • Bearing the torch to the chairmen of the jury, Robert Joffrey and Vera Kirova in the opening night gala. These were my first round performances of Corsaire solo and coda and the Aurora Act I variation from Sleeping Beauty. Frederick Wodin is my coach pictured in the wings; he was the assistant coach to David Howard, who prepared me for the competition. I won the silver medal that year.

Nice to see ROBERT JOFFREY. Founder of JOFFREY BALLET. I wonder what he would think of his company, today, 2024.

Very charming and confident. Delightful. I was there. The theatre at that time was called City Auditorium and is now Thalia Mara Hall. Thalia was a ballet teacher from NYC rightfully eager to make her name in a bigger way and went to Jackson, where she introduced the idea (to Jackson) of the "competition." I saw my first Broadway touring show at that theatre, c. 1969. Also saw Barry Manilow and Phoebe Snow (not together). It seats 2000. Not only is Robert Joffrey onstage in this clip, but the person introducing you in English is the great Marge Champion, among other things, the live model for Snow White in the 1930s Disney animated film. Here's Marge. ruclips.net/video/mZprGYcQ-HI/видео.html

so lovely! I would love to see some of her ice skating. If all this grace must have carried itself to her ice skating, no wonder she was so successful as a skater as well. Strong, beautiful artistry and technique. A natural.
