I literally, just two days ago, was thinking how cool it would be if noise cancellation could be incorporated in a car. Wow, this is awesome.
This is far from the first company to do this.
Unfortunately, companies that use this tech, do so in lieu of traditional noise reducing techniques. They do it, because it's less expensive. The result is typically a noisier car than you would get from another company.
Cadillac has it in their cars. I drove a xt5 as a rental in Florida. It was super quiet almost spooky when driving in the city. On the highway it didn't make that of a big difference though. But I loved it. Every car should have a similar system
Rolls-Royce had to actually take some out because it caused sensory deprivation. Or so the internet has claimed
@@BillyBobDingledorf Wrong. Traditional noise reducing techniques implie loading the car with absorbing materials, therefore increashing the weight of the car and increasing fuel consumption. Those materials anyway cannot absorb low frequencies which are tackled by active systems. Smaller engines today also have more low frequency harmonics as they have less cylinders. ANC/RNC are definitely not cheap technologies, it implies using extra microphones and accelerometers for each car, but there is no other viable solution.
Imagine noise cancelation across the whole world
I’ve been waiting for someone to offer an aftermarket system… hopefully soon.
Sameeee
Got some news or still waiting?
How would I install this in an older car (like mid-2000s or older)
Active noise cancellation is such cool technology but its too bad it only really works well in small contained spaces like your ear and a car. A solution would be really helpful since cars are the main source of noise pollution in cities. I can even hear the interstate a mile away, over a forest and lake, from my house. I'd also like to see if active noise cancellation can help with train squealing when turning or when braking because it would make subway stations and living next to train lines very comfortable. Maybe speakers right next to the wheels would work. Just some thoughts.
They should develop it for air planes. Imagine an almost completely silent long haul...
@@timborg770 Actually, it is being worked on for aircraft cabins, and has been for many years.
The solution is making cars much lighter and smaller.
And for my wife pls
@@williammeincke9071there is no woman in 9gag... wait a minute!
Where can I get that from ?
Weird, my car doesn't sound like an airplane mid flight.
Because its not a $5,000 Chinese POS.
@@superjesus4307 bro you roasted lynk & co a proper racing brand, the recorded noise makes it sound likean aeroplane, my own shitty toyota is worse
More you just don't notice it compared to the other cars on the road around you. Also note this is a smaller lower end car which tend to have less noise isolation. Bigger cars like a RAV4 or Escape tend to have better isolation, but they also cost way more. They also tend to make more noise on the outside so while it's quieter for you, it's louder for everyone else. Plus there's always the chance you're car already has active noise canceling, you just didn't know about it. They might not give you the option to turn it off like Honda.
There's also the fact if you just came from somewhere quieter sudden noise will sound louder. But I think the main reason is just that the noise volume is raised to more show exactly how much it makes a difference it makes perceived.
Can any of nowadays construction spray foams be used on car's noise cancelation? How's the sound proofing ability 😮😊 just curious about the possibility as they looks pretty light and some are soft. 😊
Hi, where can I buy it? How much is the price?
Sometimes I hate the ANC as I feel more pressure in my ear from the positive and negative pressure waves. I owned a 2019 Honda Insight with ANC and it wasnt bad and hardly noticed it working but now I have a 2023 CRV and sometimes it can be too much discomfort. Its also an eerie feeling when its too quiet going low speeds.
Does the 2023 crv have anc?
That's not how physics work. Either pressure waves cancel each other or you hear them. That's probably how a brain reacts to sudden silence, you wouldn't experience normally. The same thing happens, when you enter a sound-proof space.
Does crv has noise cancelling system?
@@dontcallmethat7240ANC earbuds give me headaches. It feels like a constant pressure in my ears, very uncomfortable and nothing like wearing ear plugs.
I’ve always wondered why it hurts as if Ive been listening to too loud music, when the sound should be canceled.
How does it affect people speaking to eachother in the car?
It doesn't. It works by recording the sound on the outside of the car and comparing it to the sound inside similar to headphones. From what I heard though, the algorithm is more tuned to detect the sound of the motor over road noise.
Road is too new. They should test in Seattle which has one of the worst highway(around the world?)
or in India 😄
I guess you've never been to Mexico :D
Or in turkey
Guys, the worst roads in the world are in Ukraine and we will probably hold the lead for the next 50 years😂

Is it just me or this video kinda looks like a game more than reality
like someone copy-pasted the same tree / bush asset 100 times next to the road
Love it in my MKZ
i want this
imagine this plus anc headphones
It's actually illegal in some places to drive with headphones on.
How does it work?
It uses the integrated sound system of the vehicle, plus external microphones. The speakers basically play the same sound as picked up from outside the vehicle, but with an inverted phase, creating what's called a "negative noise" that cancels (flattens) out the natural noise.
@@MilesEdgeworth129 interesting Technology, thank you.
Toyota and Honda will get in contact with you soon...
Looks like tesla beat them to them
Honda already features noise cancellation in many of its vehicles.

My 2021 Honda passport has this standard but it sucks. They also use the anc to pipe in fake engine and exhaust sounds through the speakers! I unplugged mine and its much more quite without this gimmick.
lol that terrible.
Great video, unfortunately, 10 decibels is not a lot of change to be effective.
The toyota Landcruiser 2022 has as an standard feature
Honda supports it across nearly their entire portfolio this year. There may also be a lot of other cars that have it and just don't tell you like they do.
Bose has been doing this for a while.
huh how

What kind of psychopath wants to sit in complete silence while driving to begin with??
People who enjoy a smooth, peaceful ride, and just want to let their mind wander as they drive, like myself?
Im not an expert at accoustics but from my understanding, and from real-world examples that have this in cars already, you actually dont need an expert to make one for your car. Most of the road noise comes from your tires so you would only need a microphone as close to your tires as possible and the system only needs to be tuned to reduce that. Since the tire noise is almost entirely a low frequency, thats the easiest frequency to remove with ANC with even a cheap system can handle it.
However, I think the harder issue to solve is that it messes with the way your music in the car will sound since it cancels out some the frequency of the music as well(I think, I cant remember what the issue was exactly)
A solution is that the ANC can be installed in the head unit itself, perhaps it can be done as an app that could be installed in Android powered HUs where all it does is modify the sound of the music at the frequency that the ANC is working at?
hi, I want to make my toyu quieter on the go, where you can buy and install such a simtemk
An expert or not, gotta figure out how to deal with how (spherical) waves travel and may cancel each other out or amplify at different points.
I don't think moving mics from the interior next to tires is a good idea, as it would be hard to cancel, due to how unpredictably sound travels through metals and plastics.
Android audio latency will be nowhere close to what ANC requires, this is done with separate controllers.
@@dontcallmethat7240 i believe the 2009+ acura RL employed acn by putting the mics by the tires. But don't quote me on that one. I just know that the system worked pretty well.

Honda CR-V hybrid 22 has this feature in the touring trim.
Just wear some earbuds, way way cheaper and even better noise cancelling 😅
Wouldn't say it's really cheaper than when your care just comes with it. A Toyota corolla is basically the same price as a Honda Insight that does have it.
It's actually illegal in some places to wear headphones while driving.

50km에 저정도 소음? 100넘어가면 저정돈데
- Video of guys hand and road view do not match.
- 67 db to 58 db is not 90%.
- Audio gets a lot quieter than the 9 db difference shown in the graph according to my phone app.
Company is lying to get investment money...
Actually, 67 dB really is around 90% louder than 58 dB. Decibel is a logarithmic scale, not a linear one. An increase of 10 dB means a multiplication of noise by 10.
Still with it on it looks like the noise floor is around 60 DB. This is about the volume of a normal conversation it seems a lot quieter in the car than that when the device is active. Also noticing the device was off a lot more than it was on. They should have left it on a little bit longer if they were really trying to show how well it worked. Looks like it was off about 90% of the time and on about 10%. 50/50 would have been a lot better.
@@stevedornbusch7992 I think it's the sensitity of the microphone they used. It seemed very focused on the higher pitches as well. But remember that noise is logarithmic and not linear. Why a rocket ship is around 90-120 decibels (only about double the numerical of talking) but you can barely hear people yelling next to you.
6 db = 2x perceived volume = 10x sound power level.
