NO ONE gives money for non-compete in the tech industry. They usually are of the attitude: SIGN IT OR DON'T WORK HERE!!

I'm in roofing sales and it's no different. I had to sign it or not have a job.

@@tlove2108 Honest question: Is there ANY properietary data that you have that could wreck your employer if you used your knwoledge at a competitor? If not, then it's 100% predatory!

@@hopeseekr I've been wrapped up in noncompetes for the last 12 years. Everytime I get a new job title it's "you have to sign this". I know the pricing files and sales plans. Sometimes the future roll out sales programs.
Edit: and of course there are no raises unless I'm taking a different title. They have given " cost of living raises" that don't even come close to cost of living. I'm just stuck.

I've never signed a non-compete agreement. They never fired me, and 18 month later, I left that job and started my own junk removal businesses.
I was working as a W2 employee, but the employer was paying me as 1099 independent contractor.
Today, I received a text message from this former employer saying that I violated the non-compete agreement and he is going to sue me if i don't close my new business.
While I was working for that company, I was making $180 a day. Most of the time, I worked from 9 to 14 hours a day without benefits and no overtime pay
Does anyone in here know if this becomes a legal issue or not?

Cry about it. You wanted free market? Well here you go, labor can do whatever it wants. You have to compete on wages

And you remove competition entirely from the companies?
You should retake your econ class.

@@gdmathguy "And you remove competition entirely from the companies?"... what? SIR. Do you even know what capitalism or competition is? This isn't a team effort. The performance of companies is completely irrelevant to me as a worker. You need to brush up on the factors of production.
Workers earn wages. I only care about getting the highest pay for the least amount of work aka maximizing profits. Companies only care about minimizing expenses and maximizing revenue aka maximizing profits.
Why on earth did you think any deference would be shown to "corporate competitiveness" at the cost of "labor competitiveness". Companies aren't subject to profit caps... so why would labor be. If you wanted things your way, you should have fought harder for communism because thats what you are describing
