Wow. Nostalgia overload. I remember my mom got me a Matchbox car set with all the main vehicles from the show. I'd always stage races between the General Lee and KITT from Knight Rider. Those lunchboxes bring back so many memories from back then...
Went there quite a few years ago. It's amazing how the back room is just filled with toys and memorabilia. Never knew there was so much. Bought me a Cooter's hat.
That museum brings back the nostalgia for the Dukes from back in the day. Some of the show was filmed in northern California actually and I happened to have been to the taping of an episode as a kid,. It was the best day ever. Even if we didn't meet the actors. We did get to see the cars do a run past the candy shop and the grocery. Ha. Good times. (It's the episode where the jeeps are chasing the General Lee through the 'back woods' of Manteca, er Georgia. Lol.). And I agree that it's silly for people to get bent out of shape over the flag on the car. The show was totally wholesome and breezy, and they never even hurt anyone, just did stunts and cuffed and stuffed them Dukes on occasion. I also got to see a replica General Lee in the 1990s at a local parking lot where the owner had taken it to Pondeosa for the church youth group to gawk at.
I got to meet Ben Jones in my hometown at our 1st Cooter Festival. Few years Later Meet James best who played Roscoe. He lived in my hometown Inverness. I was lucky enough to have them both sign my thermos mug that sadly I no longer had The Lunchbox that it went to anymore.
did you ever see the 70's movie Rolling Thunder ? Best played a villian in it and he did it well, this was before the dukes. The movie starred William Devane as a vietnam vet who came home to find his wife had left him, then the city gives him a big bunch of silver dollars. Best and his henchman steal his money and cut off his hand , it's a grindhouse classic.
I visited the museum back in '16 and I loved it! Love the Dukes Of Hazzard. One of my favorite TV shows as a kid. Who could forget the classic CBS Friday night lineup of The Incredible Hulk, Dukes Of Hazzard and Dallas!? Awesome, magical times.
One year for Christmas, I got some stocking stuffers that were all Dukes related. One that I'd never seen was in a package like the Slim Jim meat snack. It was called a Dip Stick. It was candy instead of meat and it had Roscoe yelling at Enis on the wrapper. I think it was about a foot long. I had it for About 6 months before my mom discarded it. Anyone else ever see those?
My dad loved this show and the whole family watched it every Saturday afternoon. My mum hated it. I had no idea that there was a museum. Next, you'll find a Chips museum to visit. LoL.
Ben Cooper also has Dukefest, or they did back in the early 2000's, one weekend a year where they get as many stars from the show to come talk and sign autographs and other fun things that weekend.
I went tonthe Nashville one about 4 times, saw Daisy's jeep, bought The Dukes.cartoon series and the Return Of The Killer Shrews,James.Best wrote it and the original, plus bought Moonrunners and a couple of bumper stickers
My dad always watched the dukes untill they left for one season after they returned it was never the same and he stopped watching missing the last few seasons altogether.
Making money off a collection with out selling it that's they way to do it. Kind of expect a place called Cooter's to have a sports bar with pretty girls serving drinks and mediocre food. I hope the little road side attractions make a come back up by me.
Kinda lost track.....sorry. But are their items overpriced? Or about right?? I caught $85 for A Team van?? I used to collect Hot Wheels and Matchbox. So other die cast am a bit of a "virgin" when it comes to prices. Also the vintage stuff that was there, part of museum, or can you buy it? Love that General Lee!!!
it's weird how the Dukes got cancelled over a decal on a car. The show was the most wholesome thing on tv at the time. Super light almost comedic violence, a story of a tight knit family. I don't understand it. If the show didn't have the flag on the car i would have enjoyed it just as much. Of course you can still buy the series on dvd. The whole debate about the general lee is ludicrous.
Nobody canceled the Dukes over a decal. You can still see it plenty of places. There's nothing wrong with taking issue with racist symbols years later. It's not like it got erased from history. People are just more understanding about the way the dixie flag ties into the oppression of an entire community and that's perfectly OK.

@@zaiusbaltar7091 It made me think for a bit, and I found a few versions online. The display box was a cardboard General Lee!

I never even knew this place existed. I'm going to have to visit sometime.
