My great grandfather lost his brother and childhood friend at pearl harbor when FDR gave this speech immediately he wanted to fight for freedom and avenge his brother and his friend death he signed up and 3 weeks later he’s off to fight in the battle of Iwo Jima. Half of his unit were killed only 2 survivors his Sargent and my grandfather. My grandfather suffered from severe PTSD. He passed back in 2009 at age 88. The saddest thing about his mental health was at times he would think the war was going on. One time he tried to his sarge for orders. His Sargent died back 1988 and when he has to be told the war is over. He would then ask if his brother and his friend to come over to visit. Really sad stuff
