The horse skull in the Death card reminds me of the Mari Lwyd tradition in Wales, where a member of the community would don a horse skull on a pole, a cloak and instruments and become the Mari Lwyd wassailing gang. The Mari visits local homes to sing for entry inside and people would have to supply songs back and food (toasted bread, often) as a generous offering of respect. It has echoes of trick or treat and similar rituals. The Mari Lwyd brings fear, jollity, mischief, all the aspects of loss and regeneration that fit that card.
Love this. I heard someone talking about the 2 of Swords as the minor version of the High Priestess & the Deviant Moon's HP has that crossed arms body language. Mixtress Rae, I think it was...suggested that this is a must to shut out the noise and listen to your own inner voice. Cool connection there, huh?
I just got the borderless version after much internal debate but it literally fell into my life for $10. It repels and calls to me both, like most people. I'm very interested in the book now so TY!
Lisa, thankyou so much for your intelligence, eloquence, perception, wisdom and wonderful observation. I'm so pleased you reviewed this deck which I bought because it was such a favourite of yours. You've opened my eyes now and I can now see it's beauty!! I am so grateful to you for your immense body of work and your beautiful nature and gifts.
Hi Lisa. I have seen this deck many times but found the art very confronting. After watching your deep dive I finally understand how much each card has to offer. Your clear, articulate explanations of each card really showed me what this deck is about. You have such a linguistic talent. Thank you for taking the time to share your insights. I finally bought the deck for myself.🌟🙌
This is really a peculiar deck, I have a similar experience with itt. I didn’t like the deck and resisted it for several years. Just not my style. Then I got it, I don’t even remember why, but I was totally blown away by it, ESPECIALLY after I also got the book! There is so much to see in the cards that I didn’t see before reading the book. Now it’s one of my cherished decks and I always feel a special connection to it when I use it. It really is a deck that takes you to this separate world and once you’re there, you totally get it and appreciate it. Even when you disliked the artwork at first! Congrats to the artist btw for achieving that with a deck! That’s rather special!
❤ Lisa 🎉 you did such a outstanding service to this deck! I’m completely biased as I buy everything that man touches and am in love with all of his decks 😂 BUT even so, you shown some things I never noticed. Your walkthroughs are so fun. Also, the big book is only about $35 US I’m definitely going to watch this dee dive multiple times ❤ thanks
I have Fallen in love with this Deck & I Absolutely Love The Art put into each card! Thank you Lisa, For this Amazing Description of All the Cards in this Fascinating Deck. 🌜🌚🌛💜💝💜
I think 'icky' art is important, due to humans being.... capable of great things or pretty grotesque things, or anything in between. I'd say Guernica by Picasso is my go-to example; one of the greatest paintings in the world, but then you realise that it depicts quite a high toll in human life, both the Spanish Civil War and onward to the Second World War. I'd actually passed on this one, for similar reasons as you, but your enthusiasm and knowledge and experience has convinced me, so I really want it now :D
This deck keeps repelling me. I only have the paradoxical edition. But, once again, your excellent deep dives have given me much to think about and are drawing me back to reconsider it. Anything but your typical love for rainbows and unicorns yet you've still managed to draw much from it. Thanks as always for your insights.
Thanks, Lisa for providing such insight into this deck that I love. I enjoy your more lighthearted videos, but when you give us your more thoughtful discernment about deck meanings and interpretations I think you do your best work. IMHO!
You've done it again!!! This video was brilliant. I'm getting ready to work with this deck next month. I've loved it since I got it, but this was extremely helpful ❤
Lisa, Lisa, Lisa! What a great review of The Deviant Moon! I really loved your descriptions of these wonderful cards. Your observations were GENIUS! This is one of my favorite decks, for the quality of the design, as well as the divination possibilities. I usually avoid videos longer than 20 - 30 minutes, but this was time very well spent. Thanks, so much for your enthusiasm, humor, and insight. You're one of a kind.
I just got this deck two weeks ago along with Tarot of the Sweet Twilight (for October :) ) and pulled out my deck and went through it along with you, it was so fun to do that without really working with it yet. :) :)
I love this idea. I Never thought of unboxing a deck with another video creator that you enjoy. I would love to do this with the next deck I buy. I don’t buy many nowadays only a handful
Thanks for doing a review on this, Lisa! I was very much like you in terms of how this deck initially struck me. The icky vibe was real. But seeing the walkthrough is a major change for me!
My take on the Deviant Moon Tarot art is that they are all like dark court jesters. Each one has a face with the bright, visible side of the moon and the dark side we never see. From the little I know about medieval history, the court jesters were both funny clowns on the surface, but the dark side, or really the unseen side was that they knew all of the dirt, plots, gossip, etc and even advised the king. That's why I think this deck is profound.
Your comment about Strength was so moving to me, I added the quote directly into my personal notebook of tarot meanings. This alone encourages me to get the deck for this kind of work. Now, back to your outstanding video.
Also, I see the Queen of Swords has a blue tear. To me, she says what must be said, painful as it may be, but she has a heart too. Maybe, this is hurting me more than it hurts you!
Literally pulled out this deck and followed while you went through it cars by card. Did you notice that the Queen of Swords has tear running down her cheek? This deck is so good! Thanks for the deep dive! And this is my favorite Page of pentacles as well
OMG. I just started watching tarot readings a month ago. I have amassed 8 decks from Pagan Otherworlds to. Deviant Moon and I’ve heard some wonderful illustrations of the meanings. Listening to you. I felt like you were born from this deck. You know it intimately. And you were so skillful taking images that seem dark, respecting their darkness, but conveying their full potential. Great job
Thank you very much for sharing this Deviant Moon Tarot deck. I too have bought the deck and the book. You inspire me with your version in deciphering this deck. I find myself nodding my head in agreement for those other meanings I couldn’t see out of the book or in the deck in particular five of cups. Very educational. A different perspective.
The Hermit card in this deck I really resonate with and had a lot to do with why I decided to purchase this deck. I have some sensory issues and am easily overwhelmed by too much noise, commotion, etc. The Hermit card here came across to me as someone who is overwhelmed by their environment and is seeking peace and solitude.
Welp, another deck is on the wishlist. Lol. I don't think I NEED it right now, but I will likely get it in the future. It is also now on the list of decks I would scoop up if found in person.
👏🏽THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS INTERPRETATION.🃏 I JUST GOT MY DECK ,BUT I'VE BEEN WANTING TO USE IT FOR A WHILE & ONCE I REALLY STARTED LOOKING AT IT, I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO USE MY NORMAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE CARDS & PUT THEM TO USE WITH THIS SPECIFIC DECK. so clearly I see the meanings in which you talked about and will alter the way I see these archetypes.
I’ve always thought this deck really creepy. Now after watching this video, I’m rather charmed. I don’t know that I’d buy it, but if I did I’d definitely want that book to go along with it it was great hearing your perspective. 🎃🎃🎃
I loved this deck the first time I saw it and the artwork is amazing but the Cardstock on my borderless edition is terrible. Your Cardstock looked fine. I still love it and am tempted by the book.
Lisa, omg I was considering getting this deck. I have the app version of this by fools dog and I connect with it in a strange way as well. But the way you broke this down! I'm bookmarking this, so so insightful! 🧡
Suddenly… I’m thinking of buying this deck 😂 I’ve never truly been interested in it, but also never had a super adverse reaction to it. Might have to check it out. Thanks Lisa! Btw, you are my favorite tarot-tube channel 💜
Thank you for this! I enjoyed every minute of it. I’ve had the deck for a few years, but I always enjoy hearing what other people see in the cards. Also your mic is great lol that always makes it better. What mic are you using??
Hey lovely Lisa. I have just started my channel and Im making a series of videos inspired by your "Affordable mass market" videos. Ive been watching your channels for years and you have been a great inspiration. I linked your video in my description box. And thanks for this wonderful video as well you made deviant moon more interesting ❤🤗
This is one of two decks that I traded away and re-aquired. (The other one is Ludy Lescot) I got DM borderless, early in my collection and was disappointed by the cardstock, I loved the original Tyldwick cardstock. Also, because I studied Thoth first, and this deck is SO RWS...I turned my nose up a little. I do remember thinking, how well and easily the artwork conveys card meanings. Later, I bought the bordered edition, because, like the modding maniac I am, I wanted to cut off the white borders, but keep that thin inner border which is color coded. I still rarely pull this deck...but I keep it, and I am definitely considering the book.🤔
I was the same. the deck really repulsed me. Then I suddenly wanted it and got it along with the book. I really should use it more. I guess this darker time of the year is perfect to whip it out again.
I have never been able to get on board with this deck. I only clicked in support of your videos in this evil algorithm! But seriously this deck unsettles me so much 😣
I felt the same about this deck. I didn’t like it but when I bought it, it kind of spoke to me. I don’t have the borderless edition and I wish I did. Lol but I love it
Wow this was a great deep dive! ❤️ Beautifully done, thank you 🙏 I am very on the fence about the Deviant moon, I even have the book. I have the paradoxical edition & I just haven’t been interested in it. Your video made me think I should just order the standard borderless and give it a go and maybe sell my paradoxical. Interestingly enough I really prefer the Triomphi Della Luna because it feels less disturbing, but maybe they would make a great pair?
I also had an adverse reaction to the deck in videos, and then one night I had a dream about the Devil card of all things, but I loved it. I bought it after that, and the book. I find the deck to be so cheeky and funny! It's definitely dark, but once you learn the characters, you see the humor in it. It always makes me so happy to see you using the book! I knew you would love it! 🥰
I originally wasn‘t too drawn to this deck although I love dark and creepy stuff. I eventually bought it after seeing it so many times on people‘s channels. After working with it for one week I returned it because I felt it was sneaky and made fun of me. I really wanted to like it but I guess it wasn‘t in the cards for me.
I always love your walkthroughs! They often make me appriciate the decks more (and want to buy them...). Same with this, but this deck is still a HUGE no from me 🤣 Too creepy for my likeing :')
I grew to love this deck and enjoyed the "coffee table" book BUT i did not love having to buy a huge, impractical and very expensive book in order to have a comprehensive guidebook beyond the little white book. I wish there was a Medium White Book for this deck.

Thank you so much! Glad it was helpful!
This deck speaks to me so much!! It should be here in a few days and I’m so stoked!
How do you like it?? I’m so excited to order it!! Trying to decide between with borders or without. I think I’ll go without!

YAY!
I am going to buy it now! Thank you for your video! =)
The Page of Swords has a loupe in his eye, a glass that jewellers use to magnify tiny details of hallmarks to check value and clarity of jewels.
Thank you Lisa I have just brought this deck and this walk through really helped me to understand this deck better.
This deck emotes so much. It’s so expressive.
I have Fallen in love with this Deck & I Absolutely Love The Art put into each card!
Thank you Lisa,
For this Amazing Description of All the Cards in this Fascinating Deck.

As I was i primary scool (1st class?) my mom bought me a pencil that was in the color of the night sky with golden sunes like the on your tablecloth.

I would be the happiest tarot nerd ever if they did a book like this for The Somnia Tarot 💙
That would be amazing
This review just popped up in my recommends, and I'm not a huge review person but I was hooked from start to end! Fantastic video 👏👏
Love this!!! Thank you so much!

I have this borderless edition and the hardback book which has helped me appreciate this deck more deeply. Thank you for a very observant review 🖤
Thanks. I have it and love it
I have used this deck for the past year and this video provided me with a ton of insights that are going to expand my game. Well done, young lady.

This is my absolute favorite deck. Great video! 🙂
I did the same I didn’t think I would like it and only got it recently and love it so much I ordered the book
Amazing Deep Dive! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Love your interpretations💕
This is super helpful, thank you so much! Love the hard bound book for this deck ❤
Love, love, love this review. Thank you.
I was the same. the deck really repulsed me. Then I suddenly wanted it and got it along with the book. I really should use it more. I guess this darker time of the year is perfect to whip it out again.
I have never been able to get on board with this deck. I only clicked in support of your videos in this evil algorithm! But seriously this deck unsettles me so much 😣
Now that i have Mildred Paynes Hidden Pocket Oracle, and have seen some other Deviantart decks, I'm more kindly disposed to Deviant Moon.
I’ve waffled on this deck for a while, if it’s at NWTS I’m snagging it now
I felt the same about this deck. I didn’t like it but when I bought it, it kind of spoke to me. I don’t have the borderless edition and I wish I did. Lol but I love it
I'm ordering this deck!
So I bought this deck. It scares me lol. It told me to buy it it was the last deck
Great video! Thank you, greetings from Belgium. x
This was really helpful. Would love a deep dive into the Fountain Tarot and Earthbound Oracle. I find your perspective helpful.
I am planning to do one on the Fountain Tarot! :D
Lisa!! Did you have too? You’ve sold me on yet another deck! ❤ thank you so much for this in-depth review you’ve helped me love this deck too
Wow that lovers cared should be called “fools in love” 😍 major psychic hit
Hehe you're welcome!
So excited for this!
Wow this was a great deep dive! ❤️ Beautifully done, thank you 🙏

Wow!! Yay!! 🤩 Love this deck!!
ME TOO! ;)
Hello. Love all your videos. You have help me a lot in my journey. I want to ask where did you buy that tarot cloth? it's beautiful.
It was such an incredible gift and has truly brought me a lot of joy!
Does Patrick Valenza have an Oracle deck?
Yes, Mildred Payne's Secret Pocket Oracle. It's very creepy, but the "backstory" on the deck is pretty cool. I have it, but haven't used it.
Aw that's completely fair!!! it's definitely not a deck that works for everyone, which is why I think we see so many polarized opinions on it!
I always love your walkthroughs! They often make me appriciate the decks more (and want to buy them...). Same with this, but this deck is still a HUGE no from me 🤣 Too creepy for my likeing :')
Completely fair! :)
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I grew to love this deck and enjoyed the "coffee table" book BUT i did not love having to buy a huge, impractical and very expensive book in order to have a comprehensive guidebook beyond the little white book. I wish there was a Medium White Book for this deck.
