I have the Indie version and truly cherish my experience with it. The 6 of Cups is my favorite; it's a self-portrait of Fyodor, both the adult and the child. 🖤

Thank you for the lovely walkthrough.
I think the Queen of Coins is holding a tray with a loaf of bread and a container of salt. A woman presenting bread and salt to guests upon their arrival is an old/traditional/folk (not sure which is the correct term to use) gesture or ceremony showing hospitality and welcoming the guests to the house/village/etc. Bread is sacred and salt used to be very expensive; the general message is of prosperity and wealth and good health. It's common across the Slavic and Balkan cultures.

Super excited to get this deck. That Lovers card is incredible. You're right that it's a bit weird that The World seems to be"the place" to feature a curvy body. I wonder if the mental connection people are making is something like: The World = Gaia = the Venus of Willemdorf and other "fertility goddess" figures. 🤷

It is giving me colourbook vibes where they just started colouring some of them and left others a bit open. I guess thats what makes it feel kinda young and fresh to me. That in combination with some of the more "risky" images is very refreshing. ❤ ✏️

I’ve only just recently started noticing cardstock, probably because I’ve only just recently started actually shuffling tarot and oracle cards.
I grew up with tarot (RWS) in the house, but readings were always my mom’s thing. I’m an artist, and since I was a teen, I’ve been collecting tarot as art. Even when my girlfriend (now wife) wanted a reading, I sent her to my mom. But I’m 43 and am just now starting to get into reading the dozens of decks I have been collecting over the years.
I absolutely LOVE the cardstock of this deck!!! Of all the decks I have, this one, the Surrealist Tarot (black core but not linen), and Mother Mort’s Carnival of Souls (lovely linen with spot foil accents) are my favorite!cardstocks!

I was actually planning on reading the guidebook cover-to-cover today, so it's so cool that you posted this video. I love seeing myself in the cards as a trans man and supporting a trans creator is always important to me, and also it's the first beautifully diverse deck I've seen that has kind of an old worldy feel, which is something I look for in my decks. I'm excited to see which Peggy bag you choose for it!

The way I see it, in The World many decks feature a happy curvy woman as a way to showcase the triumph of self-love and complete acceptance of yourself. Like you're finally free from the chains of judgment, have ended your journey of self-discovery, and have achieved peace. So I'm always stoked to see this kind of imagery. One of the main reasons I plan to buy This Might Hurt in the future!

Thanks, Lisa, for all your great insights. I think the large naked woman on the World card harkens back to what you said about the Sun--the nakedness suggests acceptance. This woman is accepting herself and all that's happened to her which would be part of being complete. It also suggests abundance--she doesn't want for anything (how larger people were judged to be more successful and wealthy than others in the past). Just my take, but where the idea/image first comes from, I don't know!

The King of Wands has a prosthetic leg!! The right leg - oddly colored, I assumed was a strange “shadow” - is actually a prosthetic leg giving a nod backward to the 9! I am in absolute awe at this deck! And the initial reading that included the King of Wands? Absolute perfection!

This deck had been calling to me forever. I almost backed the kickstarted. I almost bought the indie version multiple times. I kept hesitating until the clock ran out. But when I found out it was coming out MM I knew I would have to finally take the leap.
I already knew I loved the artwork and the backs of the cards. I had been exposed to the deck and seen it enough to know it was stunning and unique. I just wasn’t sure if I would connect with the deck or if it would end up being a beautiful deck that refused to speak to me. I was afraid of the potential disappointment.
I preordered the deck and the delivery date kept getting pushed. It finally arrived but was delivered in an envelope and was damaged. It was replaced with an undamaged deck that was delivered in a box.
This deck was well worth the wait. I am completely happy with this MM version even though I was worried about the gilding. I love the hardcover guidebook. The box is beautiful. The gilding is high quality and blends beautifully with the cards.
The deck is more expensive for a MM deck but it is worth it. It feels on par with indie decks that I love. I have a few indie decks with lower quality cardstock and packaging that I paid more for.
I am thrilled that this beautiful deck which gorgeously reflects the real world we live in is now widely available Mass Market.
I was sad when you said in a video that you would not get this as a preorder. I was still waiting for my deck but I suspected your worries about it being more of your fantasy self and might be too “grown-up” may have been wrong in this case. I was hoping you would somehow get a chance to work with it. I am so happy you ordered it and that you love it.
Wishing you and Peggy all the best!
Thank you for a wonderful walkthrough of a very special deck!

Im at the judgement card in the video and just wanted to share because i had a thought about the shadow aspect and how this card could be interpreted as the need for judgement, for validation, that these people are grasping at this figure begging for judgement, to be told if they are enough, and/or maybe even Please tell me what im doing wrong, how can i repent, how can i change, please pass judgement on me so i can know. Idk maybe im way off but thats the initial thought that popped into my head. But i agree. Its a very grim depiction.
Edit: also, your nailpolish is GORGEOUS!
Edit 2: and ooh i love that in the 9 of swords there are owls mixed in with the bats, like there is wisdom in what you fear. Love that.

I've had my copy for a while now (also mass market) and only just now noticed the strength card and what it makes me think of. The scene in Lilo and Stitch (the movie) where Lilo puts the lei around Stitch when he's really worked up. That scene is one of my favorites and really meaningful to me because of the symbolism I've attached to it (thanks to a Tumblr post ages ago), and seeing it paralleled in the strength card makes me really happy.

So I just hit buy on Amazon, and I’m getting it in Manila (where I’m based) by Mar 3. And I didn’t even know they’re linen until you showed the cards. I just got this last month. I haven’t seen you had filmed this.
Lisa if you switched the King and Queen of Swords, they would’ve looked at each other. That’s what I was yelling at the screen! Lol
    Here’s my criticism:
The creator is transgender, and I’m happy for him. But since I don’t think that matters to who a person really is, I don’t need to know that, but that is I believe, why the Lovers Card is the way it is. I get the point that we fall in love with people, not the genitals. I’ve heard people make the statement “I don’t love genitals. I love the person Genitals is an afterthought” -
…Well I’m breaking out to say: I’m attracted to one of the two genitals options. Personal preference: I want the genitals to match the body of the gender that gets my juices flowing. The changes in the Lovers card don’t change the meaning of the lovers card, i know that. And Lisa I like the alchemical change you mentioned with the card. Nice observations, I agree.
Anyway. This goes for all decks : archetype cards.
Archetypes are on the court cards - IMHO this is not the place to insert DEI stuff. Day to day stuff like the minor arcana- go for it. But not court cards or the majors IMO. Because I don’t want my knight in a wheelchair.
I think this is a bit too Woke for divination. I love everything else about the deck - the production, the cards, I agree. I love how LUSH it is too. ❤
