Last month I visited a small medieval theme park in Australia, and they had some speakers playing ambient music throughout the day. At one point I stopped dead because I heard this track playing and burst out laughing. Age of Empires lives on! The musicians would have been so happy! ^^
This is the one song that stuck with me for all these years, occasionally invading my thoughts for no reason 2 decades later. It doesn't help that it's the same 16 notes repeated with different instruments for most of the song :P
Every great game i have played in my life, will be always on my mind... But the difference with Age of Empires, is that AOE will be always in my heart. Only AOE just won that place!
"Thus Egypt was unified again. The High Mages were no more. And so, he, the Great Pharaoh peacefully ruled finally over Egypt and he came to known by the name... *Yugiō* ".
This masterpiece will be called Medieval melody but for me at least it places me in ancient times and conveys to me the idea of progress of civilization and of the human being from the caves to Rome. Does this happen to anyone else?
Roman empire ended in 1473 my dude. Not because Turks and Arabs extrminated the whitesof East meditreranea means that we should forget that those lands used to be whites, romans, and of europeans civs
@@iceintheair Not really, the Byzantines considered and were seen as their counterparts as the remains of the Roman Empire. And were they technically wrong? I had paranoia when I was in my teens, and was morbidly worried about dying in my sleep. Every night, before I went to sleep, I thought that I had to live another day so that I can listen to this song one more time. This is the best video game song in my opinion.
One of the best video game song ever ^^ Both melancholic and belligerent. Hearing this just make me feel I am going to drive Xenophon's men out of persian empire. Or achieve the siege of Palmyra.
I love this game and aoe2 both old amd new. I grew up playing both os these as a 4 yr old and I love the battle elephants with the paint on their face.
This beautiful piece of music shouldn't be touched by shitty hip hop. Definitive Edition already screwed this up. It doesn't need more. It's fine as is.
When I was playing the Definitive Edition for the first time I was waiting eagerly for that to start. Nearly cried when it happened it was so beautiful.
I relate this song to my fat cat. Feels like the perfect theme for a massive, noble and kind round pet. 0:00 - 0:48 Fat cat enters the room, his paws hitting the floor. Observing everything. 0:49 - 1:08 Fat cat stops. Something caught his attention. 1:08- 1:19 Fat cat continues his trip from the living room to the kitchen. 1:19- 3:39 Have no idea what the Fat cat is doing.
Kevin McMullan was not involved in the music of Rise of Rome. The first Ensemble Studios project he worked on was AoE II: The Conquerors. I assume you got the info in the description from Wikipedia, and you can blame whoever said on Wikipedia that Kevin McMullan made the music for Age of Empires 1 for not reading their own sources properly.
To begin with, Ensemble Studios give their music silly titles. It's most noticeable in Age of Mythology. On top of that, music piece titles are often a lyrical representation of the soundtrack itself. Chillwave songs can sometimes have the words' chill' in its title.
joshfish2 Maybe because of the attention people pay to soundtracks individually. First of all, when music is made for no external intentions, the song is provided credit and title: if you browse a site for songs, it obviously gives you details about the title and the composer. When you play a game like Age of Empires, the song *was meant* for external intentions (the song was designed *for the game*) so people expect you to listen to it by playing the game, not by browsing it (and I'll also explain why they expect it to be so). Notice that in GTA5, SaintsRow4 and NFS you do get the titles of the songs, because they weren't designed for the games - they were solely created without the intention to be featured in the game. When you browse songs, you're there for the music - so you focus on it's details more than on other things (at least at the first few times). When you play a game, you're there for the game - so the music is introduced to you in the background, and you focus on the game more. Also, if you were to hear "Amerie - 1 thing" in the middle of an historical RTS game, you would be un-immersed and start thinking about them individually. The point of soundtrack is to set the atmosphere and the mood. You can see a dramatic moment in a movie and hear classic music along with it and still think it goes well together, even though you hate classical music and would never dream of searching for such a musical piece if it weren't for the movie. If you played Half Life 2, you would know it has some shit soundtrack - but I liked it because it went well with the game's atmosphere, and it was a part of some lovable moments! I remembered some lovable moments in the game, which features this music, so my brain linked "lovable moment" with "shitty music". All these GTA, SaintsRow, NFS and SSX games feature modern upbeat music because of a couple of reasons: 1. The games get pretty intense with all this racing and shooting, so your brain will barely focus on the music anyways. 2. When you're not shooting or racing like in some hardcore mission, you're doing something boring like browse the menus (most commonly in NFS & SSX), boringly drive around just because you have no other way to get to your destination (most commonly in GTA and Saints Row, but also a bit in *some* NFS titles). 3. It goes well with the atmosphere of upbeatiness and modern day society. Nevertheless, you were correct with your comment.
+joshfish2 because the game afterwards takes place in medival times (aoe2) (this music plays near the end of an online campagn or offline skrimish and was used as a teaser for aoe 2 back in the day)
+joshfish2 just play the game on custom campaign mode until you get to the wonder and then listen to the middle of this song where the cavemen like drums fade and the european harpischord plays you'll see that both this song and building the wonder fits perfectly and if you look very deep in the games files (or the end of the official soundtrack) you'll hear the aoe 2 theme
i made a remake of this, and im working on the others. i have another that im done with, and on thats being tuned up a bit. im also in the middle of getting some modern sounding aoe2 tracks uploaded. soundcloud.com/aron-kerr/age-of-empires-midevil-melody-bytma-remaster

I don't think the Definitive Edition does this song justice. The og is so good!
mostly because the section between 0:49 to 1:09 are changed too much imo
Hence why they renamed it in DE as Whirling Dulcimer, they knew it was not as good as OG, but still a good reimagining
