    Jenni, you once recommended a stain that could be used over another stain without the need to remove the previous glossy finish. I want to do my mantel, which is a reddish oak stain, a dark walnut. Can you remind me what stain I need to use? Thanks so much!

    Loved the video. What brand stainblocker did you use on the white bath vanity? It looks terrific.

      Thank you for watching. I used BOSS Stain Blocker - dixiebellepaint.com/b-o-s-s/?aff=177
      It's waterbased, so better for those projects you can't take outside.

    Great tour! Love the projects. New subscriber too!
    I have a question. About 10 yrs ago I stained my oak cabs brown mahogany followed by a toner and finished with Mohawk pre-cat lacquer. I wanted to do antique white now. Which primer and paint would be best at hiding that cherry/brown color? I was thinking GF stain blocker, but you had major bleed thru. Would BIN shellac base primer be better than GF at hiding the cherry/brown color? Would GF Milk paint be ok over BIN? Or do I need another type of paint that can block that strong color from bleed through? Now I am confused! Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Jenni, I’ve missed your inspiring videos and enjoyed joining you on your house update tour. I’m wondering how your bannister redo is holding up as well as the stenciled floor painting. Then again, maybe that was your previous house? I hope you and your family are staying well.

      The banister is good! I stained it with water based stain and sealed it with General Finishes High Performance - it's got a couple scratches (from carrying furniture upstairs) but overall it's holding up great!
      The painted floor - it lasted really well for about 18 months. Then we installed all new floor on the first floor of our house. The stenciled floor was a big bandaid until we could afford new flooring. If I were to do the stenciled floor again, I would top coat it to help it last longer!

    You have inspired me to start painting my 1980’s oak cabinets. I ran into a problem and need help. One of the area the oak cabinets are stain with wax or something that makes it smooth to touch. Definitely different from the regular oak cabinet. I put BOSS paint on it and still not liking the results. How do I remove the BOSS to apply the slick stick?

      I would sand it back a bit - probably don't need to do it entirely, but enough to scratch it up a bit. Then apply the Slick Stick right on top!

      Have you used Dixie belle paint on banister and railing or what paint and top coat would you recommend?

    If I choose to use Behr Alkyd paint on kitchen cabinets (red oak), what primer would you recommend to use prior to paining?

    • @RootsWingsHome
      @RootsWingsHome  4 года назад

      I would recommend using BIN shellac primer. It's very smelly though so be sure you have good air flow. If you get any discoloration on the first coat, do a second before applying paint!

      Do you suggest using a chalk paint or Behr Alkyd paint for kitchen cabinets?
