As always the most thorough comprehensive review Russ. the amount of scripting and research you put into every single video is the standard I will aim for in my future review videos. loved the edit. cheers man More Reviews please
Hey Russ, thanks for the review. Mine has was delivered today, and I am very happy with it. I did a little playing, but it is charging to full right now. I like mic option, and all the attachments. I will be putting my videos up soon on Skatas Drone View as soon as I can. Again, thank you for the recommendation!
Thanks for the review. I just ordered my phantom 4 pro and was considering another camera, and this definitely fits into my budget! Thanks for the review.
It definitely seems like a good deal for the money..the Hero 7 and Osmo definitely far superior in stabilization, but nice for a first action camera. good review, Russ!
I gotta say Russ 100% man I am gunna shake your hand one day. I am looking at the idea of a World Tour in late 2020 with the help of a "crowd fund campaign" to support some of the costs. I will be setting up a live vlog daily diary and do a few guest talks "surviving cancer" & "the power of positive thinking", it is all in its very early stages of planing so we will have to see how it unfolds. Later my OG mate
Thanks for the great video! I’ve been looking for a good action cam and I don’t have the ability to get a GoPro. Looks like once I save up I’ll be getting one of these to document my trips aroun Michigan on my bike
It seems like a good action camera for the money. Not everyone needs a Hero 7 or a DJI Pocket. Good review Russ. But where did all that snow come from. LOL
I just did some testing on that myself. the Firefly handles left/right correction pretty good, but up/do, such as what happens when you are using it, as I did, on a chest mount, IS better than no EIS, but a far cry from what the GoPro can do. but as you pointed out, it is WAY cheaper.
I really like this camera, but did you know that Gopro has a trade-up deal right now? Send them ANY digital camera with an original msrp over $100 and get the Black for $300. This alone makes the Gopro Hero Black the best option by far. Great review Russ. I love the stabilization of the Gopro.
I’d love to stick the firefly on my SJRCZ5 drone. I’d like to see how much better the video image quality is compared to the built-in one axis 1080 P camera.
Thanks for the nice review, Russ. Way to improvise while the wrath of Elsa continues. Like some other viewers mentioned though, it had the unintended affect on me of making me want the Hero 7 Black. I already have a Kodak Pixpro SP1 I bought a few years ago that I use on a helmet mount while riding dirt bikes. It has been a great camera, but compared to the 8SE, the SP1 cost a little more, is only 1080p, and has no image stabilization. On the upside, it is waterproof without a case, and will run over 2 hours on a charge. It's also bright yellow, making it much easier to find if it falls off. I won't be buying another camera anytime soon, though, as I'm currently saving up to replace my Mavic Pro with a MP2. I will, of course, use your link when I do. :-) Thanks for all your hard work!
Great video Russ. As you know I enjoy my birds oh and my cool hat. A action camera has been on my mind. Pocket seems a bit expensive and a GoPro 7 is well let me say the bomb. Yet again I still find myself not walking around much while flying so I can say this firefly could get me that behind the scenes videos better than a tripod and full frame. Thanks 51 Drones for another choice.
Thank you Russ, I really need a new action camera. Mind is finally going, it does not like to adjust color very well anymore. This helps a lot. So if banggood I willing to have me review this, I will definitely review it other then a drone. Thanks again and I will not complain about rain and wind, after seeing what it looks like outside your place. Lol
@@51Drones oh thanks Russ, I will see if I can have it sponsored. But I do appreciate it, glad snow is trying to melt off. Congrats on your channel, keep up the great work you do my friend. Cheers and happy flying.
Dang you launched that Micro sd card lol! Temps are finally getting better up in our arctic tundra! what temp would you say that i could fly my mavic air and not worry about moisture problems?
Possibly. But as I've been researching this more, it appears that the Yi 4K+ is quite a bit better. It costs a little more, but 4k@60 is worth it! amzn.to/2F9DvmR
hello greetings, very interesting video and I practice for the decision making of the purchase of the firefly 8se that I want to mount it in my drone f450, now which version you recommend to use in a drone the 90 ° or the 170 °, greetings from Panama
Nope. The audio is not good. Actually, I have yet to find an action camera with good audio. The Osmo Action comes close, but still has a ways to go to be considered "reasonable".
I use my action camera for my grand children. Have you ever tried to get smooth pictures with a two-year-old that you have to Chase it's not easy without a gamble of some sort. Thanks for the review it was awesome. I'm going to try to get one of these action cameras myself
If you own already a Hubsan H501S and using the FireFly not only for the drone footage then yes. I have a Hubsan H501S with the FireFly 7 and the footage looks a lot better then the H501S internal camera. Downside, you do not see what the FireFly exactly recording and the flight time is much shorter.
Great review. I have both an OSMO Pocket and a GoPro Hero7 Black. I wish the Hero7 Black had stabilization at the highest resolution like the OSMO Pocket. BUT the Hero7 has an HDR photo setting like my Mavic Pro Drone which I love. That is one of the things on my wish list for future firmware updates on the OSMO Pocket.
@@MicoGhostTheOldCodger true, but osmo pocket cant do superwide anyway. I cant wait for osmo pocket 2. I love both of these cameras (h7b & op). Edit: i do wish it worked in linear mode. Oh well... 2.7k it is.
Have you heard of a drone called "Altair B2W Outlaw Edition"? I could tell you what I know about it but I think you will have more fun find out for yourself. It's a toy grade drone with awesome range. Price under $300. I would love to see you test it & get your opinion. Thanks. PS. If you do this I would like to know how to get the FPV range to match the drones range/distance.
Hey , am a biker . I have a dout . If the video recorded in this will have any erorr when recorded in high speed?. Any problems?. Is it suitable for taking biking videos?
A really nice comparison and there is not much that differentiates the 'action' cameras from one another. With all that snow, you could put an action camera on the side of the road and record as it gets plowed. It should do well as long as it does not get hit by the plow blade or at least while it gets covered with snow. Hmmm. I might have to do that.

Noting against GoPro and DJI Osmo... but for the price the FireFly Cameras does a awesome job. Thx for reviewing it!

its nearly 2020 now , whats the best budget action camera now for filming in 1080p with image stabilization and is good at night as well?
elbichito2 try the akaso v50 pro or v50x

Great review Russ. Are you sure you didn't speed the clips up when you were doin' the stairs? LOL The weather looked good enough to be flyin'.
Thanks for this review Russ. I will keep this camera in mind. I would use it for content if and when I figure all of that out. LOL

The wide angle of view is nice, but it has quite a "fisheye" effect. The 90 is more of a linear look.
@@51Drones ok ready thank you very much for the info
Can,you compare it to akaso v50 elite?
Whuch is better? especially in underwater footage?
I need one to record my band rehearsals and corcerts. Do you think the audio would be reasonable?
Nope. The audio is not good. Actually, I have yet to find an action camera with good audio. The Osmo Action comes close, but still has a ways to go to be considered "reasonable".
Do you know if there’s a way to conect a external mic on it? Or Just the one that comes with it?

Lol
This would be a perfect additional camera for my Polaris RZR. Something I could just set it, and hit record.
Only in 1080 though. With that much motion, it would be pretty jerky.
Wich one is better
Akaso v50 elite or firefly 8se
Haven't tried the Akaso, but it looks good!
@@51Drones thank's for response, I have order firefly 8se, nice video
Subsribed
which one should I get? the 90 degrees one or the 170-degree one?
170 provides more to work with in post, but has more fisheye.
Would this Action Cam work with an H501S and a fixed gimbal?
I am not sure actually. I would post that question to Captain Drone.
Thanks

I think it would be ok. A bit shaky though.
Is it able to zoom?
no
Not bad at all!
I'm needing an action camera to give myself a colonoscopy. I recently lost my health insurance.
On a freestyle quad- because smashing GoPros in the ground gets expensive

To be honest, these little knock offs are cool, but theres nothing like a REAL GoPro. Quality cost.
the firefly looks like legit shit.
