Same concept as 5 and six string basses, a 4 string is tuned E A D G, with a 5 string you can either have a low B or a high C and with a six string you get both

Why do they make these useless bearly an "instrument"s ? Like, I get it with the electric guitar, it's a whole other sound and character. Or the digital piano, they are waaay more affordable and practical for tight spaces and begginers.
But why bother with these soulless toys that are not any more affordable than the real thing, and as soon as you try to play the real thing, you realize that you can't because you haven't had to deal with sound projection, posture and...
