- Video taken during the power change for northbound Crescent Train #20 showing off the variety of rail action at DC Union:
Amtrak AEM-7 #926 departing with a northbound Regional
Inbound MARC commuter train
P42DC's #191 and #121 pulling off T20 to the yard.
Outbound DC Metro Red Line train.
MARC MP36PH-3C engines #13 and #10 on providing power to the previously mentioned inbound train.
Amtrak AEM-7 #908 with southbound Train 79 running next to an Amtrak SW1500 switcher.
Amtrak SW1000R #796 pulling out past K Tower
AEM-7 #946 running lite from the lower storage tracks up through K interlocking before reversing onto the head of Train 20
Enjoy!
Great job! I am a passenger train fanatic and I really enjoyed this video. Thank you!
nice video and great catch of the Amtrak train in your video.
Good ole 946. I don't know why but for some reason I've seen that one an inordinate amount of times.
4:58 I saw that exact same switcher locomotive when I was on the metro
Nice video! What a busy place!
They don't tend to mind when a long distance train is conducting a power change.
RIP AEM-7.
I'm very surprised you got all that. Most people can't even get a single train shot in there without Amtrak police stopping them.
Matthew Smith Is that true? 😮
@@yoshig5278 I was also stopped from filming, luckily after I had already got some footage. I don't know why they have this policy, but it is pointless.
The Union Station is quite attractive.
946 is ubiquitous!
cool
mk I'm just here for the switcher.
I wonder if Amtrak has different rules for distance between equipment when working in between equipment than other railroads.
What do you mean by that?
What size wheels did the AEM 7 have? They look very low to the ground compared with some other locos.
Internet says 50 inches?
@Jersey Mike's Rail Videos Do they let you set up camera on the platform?
If by "set up" you mean "hold in hand" then yes.
Only one place u r showing vedio where is the main station
I like Hoboken terminal
NJ Transit trains 15 tracks
Hudson Bergen light rail 2 tracks
path trains 3 tracks
Penn station NY maaaannnny tracks
njt.lirr..subway lines
Did you see a sc-44
No, it was recorded in 2013.
SC-44 chargers weren't around then
Dirty station love from Pakistan
still find the cowbells 'ding, ding, ding' extremly annoying on US railway safety. to think we have IET AT:300 pass through stations at 125mph without even sounding the horn. Looking at the video am I correct that Washington Union is split between a MARC side and an Amtrak side?
Union station has all sorts of track workers moving about and electric trains are very quiet. What, you have a problem with backup beepers too?
MARC and Amtrak Regionals use tracks 7-16 (although tracks 7-9 used to be non-electrified and MARC only), Tracks 15 and 16 are low level and used by Capitol Limited trainsets. Tracks 17-20 are used by Acela Express. Tracks 22-29 are on a lower level and are used by VRE and through running Amtrak Regional and long distance trains.
No - it isn't. VRE uses the station as well. The split is between WMATA and all railroads; the same is true at Baltimore Penn Station (light rail/heavy rail split). 30th Street Station has an upper/lower side split with SEPTA using the upper side.
@@PositionLight - Ivy City (train servicing area) directly adjoins Union Station; it can even be railfanned from Galludet/NoMA WMATA aboveground station (just north of Union Station). Ivy City services AMTRAK, MARC, and VRE (though AMTRAK owns and operates it); therefore, you can have multiple power changes happening.
The bell horn thing is because generally some people over here can’t see or hear the massive gazillion ton hunk of metal barreling towards them, or worse, they see it but decide to try to beat the train to save those three precious seconds that then you’ll have been spending, waiting for it to pass. Most people are sensible and aren’t stupid, but there’s a surprising number of people who aren’t.
@@alegsb3943 and the Darwin Award goes to those bogons who try 🙃. I kind of get that but living near a station served twice hourly by train (one each way) and passed by several Kernow to London inter cities I'm glad I only get the occasional horn to enter the bridge on the Kernow - England border (a single track bridge from 1869) when there's issues with the signalling system or maintenance crews on the line.
