- IMPORTANT: Raise your presser foot when threading the machine so it releases the tension.
In this video I demonstrate how to thread the Upper, Lower and Coverstitch Looper.
When I bought this machine and unboxed it the first thing I did was search for videos on how to thread it here on RUclips. All I found were videos on their top of the line Evolution serger. It seems that both Baby Lock and their dealers have zero interest in helping those of us who have bought anything other than their top of the line serger when it comes to video support.
You'll find plenty of videos on how to thread their sergers that included ExtraordinAir™ threading support. What struck me is that this feature is supposed to greatly simplify the threading, so why so many videos on how to thread it, and yet zero on how to thread their machines without their ExtraordinAir™ threading support. ;)
Okay, off my soapbox.
Hopefully, this will help others that were in my position.
I got my Diana last fall and had it threaded for overlock stitching. My thread just broke and it'd been so long I couldn't remember how to thread it. As you and everyone else has stated, Baby Lock does well in helping with the higher end machines, but not so much with the under $1000 models. Thank you so much for this. The manual isn't enough and there isn't anything else out there. A cd would be a great addition to help with this kind of thing. The reason more people don't have sergers is the fear of the threading ... it would be so proactive! Anyway, rant over. Thanks a ton!!
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for letting me know.
Thank you so so much for the video. I've had the hardest time threading my machine until I stumbled upon this. Like others and you have said, Baby Lock needs to do a better job in providing instructional videos with this machine. Just because we didn't shell out the money for the Evolution serger doesn't mean we shouldn't get the same level of support from them. Maybe they should pay you to do the videos!!
***** You're welcome!
Thanks so much for this video. I've been trying to thread my Diana for hours! Kept missing the back of the needle loop. The instruction manual is not very good and your video has helped immensely. Thank you for making it look easy.
I am glad you found it useful.
Thank you for sharing the video. I had a difficult time threading this Serger. Your video is of great help.
I am glad it was helpful.
Great Rebecca!
That is exactly why I created this video, so thank you for letting me know it was of some help to you. :)
Love you, love you, love you Kevin. Thank you .
Christine Jacob You're very welcome!
Thank you soooooooo much for this tutorial! Babylock really needs to do a little better with their Diana instructions! Your video is fantastic! Again, thank you!!!
***** You're welcome Donna!
Great Video, Kevin! I'm having a hard time threading the machine to do a cover stitch. Do you have a video how to thread the machine to do a cover stich?
+M. Raphael Yes, I have a video on my channel on how to convert to a cover stitch.
V good video! I am having problems trying to get the knives to line up to be able to cut when I sew over seams. I have an older model which sews beautifully otherwise.
Kev, I got the machine doing a nice coverlock thanks to you. I do have a question about the knife, though. I notice when yours is disengaged it abuts the white frame of the machine. Mine drops down but is overlapping the machine case, preventing the front from closing. If I unscrew it enough so that the knife drops all the way down, then the screw won't snap back in place and the front cover won't close. I must remove the knife in order to sew without it. Is it the machine or is it me? : )
Very helpful, thank you. I echo the unhappiness with Babylock. I feel this machine has a lot of potential. I was trying to do a 3 thread flatlock last night and the blue looper kept popping out of the discs. Any suggestions? Rayon 40 wt . +Kevin Sews
You can try covering the path with tape. Also, try to prevent the thread from twisting as much as you can. Ryon is stiff so straightening it will help. I've seen others place the thread spool in a bowl and they straighten /flatten it out in short lengths just before it enter the thread paths before it enters the machine.
Thank you. I had a chance to sit at my dealer's and try a bunch of different stitches. She saw that I had it threaded wrong. Gonna love this machine once I get comfortable with her.
Great!
Thank you for the video, it’s very helpful. The issue I’m having, trying to coverstitch a pair of sweatpants, lightweight fleece line fabric. The stitch keeps breaking. It’s threaded correct, because it sews great on a cotton fabric. I’ve changed my needles to different sizes 10/14/12 and still have the problem. Any suggestions.
How is the stitch breaking? While sewing or after?
I think your video is great. I am having difficulty and I am not sure why my 5 Thread 3 thread overlook is working. It appears the purple and the left needle don't want to form a chain. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Please help me. Do I thread all the loopers first and then the needles
Upper looper first then the lower looper second.
