Do you have to take off the brake fluid reservoir cap or no
My 03 has pads and the pads are passenger and driver side so make sure you put the right pads on the right side I learned the hard way.
Thanks for making these videos for us. It gives me the confidence to work on my own vehicles.
+digitalghost81 Thanks for watching. If any of our viewers needs to make this repair, we carry the auto repair part shown in this video on our website. Here is a link to them: www.1aauto.com/brake-pad-and-rotor-kit-rear-nakamoto-cd711%2c-54090/i/1abfs00641?RUclips&CTA+Comment&
Nice video, The only problem is my 98 f150 doesn't have rear disc brakes !
Mine either. These videos are pretty informative but they leave out a lot of helpful info. Like, not all truck have rear disc brakes
@LactoseTheIntolerant thanks. Did my first set of drum brakes 30 years ago so I think I have a idea how they go. 😉
Little tip so you don’t have to twist the rotor...apply the break cleaner on before you place the rotor on
+Logan Henry Thanks for the tip!
Appreciate the video, switched my back brakes out very easily. You earned a sub from me buddy.
The instructions were on point I really appreciate the help thank you
Parking brake adjustment can be accessed through rubber covered hole in back of plate just like regular drum brakes, back off on the adjusters to get rotor off.
+Randall Carney Thanks for the feedback!
I have a 98 f150 and the rear brakes are drum brakes do you have a video on that style?
1998 ford f150 have disk on back?
I'm sorry but this needs way more cursing to be accurate. Also, put anti-seize between the rotor mating surface and the hub face. This will help make sure it frees up for the next poor schlub before he tries to whack the rotor off with a 3-lb sledge.
This seems like a critical step for Rust-Belters
Do you loose any brake fluid while changing pads?
No, you should not. Unless you have had your master cylinder topped off prior, in that case you may have it overflow.
You should lose any fluid when changing brake pads, rotors, or drums, and shoes. No bleeders should be opened to do this, unless you need to replace the wheel cylinder or caliper.
Hello, I may not get a response but my rear passenger side drum gets hot however my drivers side does not, I just replaced everything and I tried removing the parking break bar inside the right side as I thought that was my issue however it is still getting super hot on the passenger side while the drivers side is normal, what could be the issue? Any suggestions? Thank you so much 💓
Drums or disk?
Great Video...
Tapping on the drum part of the rotor works better to brake away the shoes from the drum than hitting the face of the rotor, saves the rotor too if it's to be reused. And since I'm here did anyone bother to check why the pad on the piston side was almost new compared to the worn out outer pad? Because if no one did it'll just happen again with new pads and rotor. These video's are quite good most of the time, what happened this time. Disappointing to say the least!
Are there any electronics involved in changing the break pads on a 1999 Ford F150? Can we change these out ourselves, or are there electronics involved, meaning it has to be taken to a shop, or dealership, to repair?
No. Pretty much same as any other car.
Thank u 1a auto
Do you use brake cleaner? Do you ever grease your caliper pins?
+Jeff Whiting Thanks for checking us out! We do use brake cleaner and it would be for the best if you do put some grease on those pins when you're taking them out and putting them back in.
They used brake cleaner in this video, and mentioned the slide pins can be lubricated.
I have a 2003 2wd f150 do you need to remove wheel bearings to remove rotors?
yes for the front rotors the wheel bearings must be removed on a 2WD.
Do you have to take the brake reservoir cap off?
No, the fluid being pushed back when compressing the caliper, is the same fluid that was pushing it out. This is simply returned to the reservoir like the system does on its own. If the calipers don't push back fairly easily with a C clamp or actual caliper tool, you have a different problem. Just sapping rotors and pads, you should never need to remove the reservoir cap, or crack the bleeders open.
my 97 f 150 has drum brakes
So does my 98
Base models do
Thanx simple easy 5o follow instructions
Easy 5o!
Can I do the conversion of drum brakes to discs in my f150 99?
It involves swapping the entire rear axle, totally not worth the effort
If you'd prefer rear disk brakes, it's totally worth the effort. Locate a disc brake axle, try to check to make sure that it has a similar ratio and swap everything.
You may want to add sanding/grinding the surface of the hub to make sure the two surfaces sit together evenly. I've had problems with that in the past.
+SteveeahTV vvnkn Selva Thanks for the feedback!
Some auto parts stores offer this service. I was quoted $30 per rotor.
My 2000 ford f150 also has drums in the rear.
+J Nieto There were some models that had drum brakes, and some that had disc brakes depending on the trim level and options from the factory. 1aauto.com
@@1AAuto Thank you.
My '97 F-150 has drum brakes
Correct. 97/98 trucks have rear drums, 99+ have disc.
Um... if you loosen the adjusters it will come off much easier. With you all being "professional" I feel like you should know and say that. Also, if you use break cleaner before putting the rotor on it's easier too!
+Alicia Jones Thank you for the feedback. 1aauto.com
Why are you twisting the rotor at 4:40?
+Abelardo Jauregui Thanks for checking us out. The reason the rotor was twisted was to clean the back side of the rotor with brake cleaner.
Why don't you torque the caliper bolts to spec?

So the 2 ears go down, cause that how the 06 are but I seen people put the 03 brakes with the 2 ears up so I'm thinking does it matter which way they face
Seems like the ears were down when he removed, but up when he reinstalled. Confusing
