- Are the driving lesson videos fake? 🤔 So I've been teaching my FIRST TIME learner driver little brother how to drive a manual car on PUBLIC ROADS so that he can pass his driving test for over a year now and there's some rumours I need to address...

The fact that Juvenal responds with "I don't know" to the mistakes that he's making is a clear sign that he's cognitively overloaded. He's still putting most of his focus on getting the car going. His steering is still extremely stiff, and he still stalls once in a while. He also doesn't change gears often enough. These are all signs that he's nowhere near comfortable with the basics. So when you add things like checking his mirrors while he's out there struggling to get the car moving at all, of course he's going to either stall or move off recklessly. To add to it, there's a reason why he "hates manuals" and in general performs way better on the road with an automatic.
What he needs is an open space where he can master the basics. Just let him get comfortable with steering and the throttle, let him find the car's limits and sweet spots. Only after that can he start thinking about other things.
Exactly, I have noticed that Europe has very complete and accurate instructors and driving courses about what to be. And let's be honest, we recognize that Jeremy makes an effort to teach him and put him into driving practice, but he is not an instructor, so he tends to make mistakes like making him nervous on certain occasions. So I would like him to take (if he hasn't already) a serious driving course, like with Aman from clearviewdriving who, in my opinion, is a very good instructor.
only based reply in here, teaching people to drive is easier when you break it all down into what you specifically do in each specific circumstance. people think there are too many, but there are actually quite a countable number of things to look for. very finite number. like my friend literally freezes when i’m talking to him on the phone while he’s driving because he gets so cognitively overloaded with garbage input, paying attention to too many noisy variables. at least it’s getting better

i always stay in 2nd thats my issue haha also learnin but when i have to switch i switch smoothly but don't want to so often just stay in 2nd and get told off by instructor haha

@@KrupekXD manuals are stupid for learners. This guy needs to strictly be in an automatic until he’s mastered the automatic. Manual is NOT for him. I think he has trouble focusing on the road, what’s going on around, the mirror checks frequent enough, and then controlling the gears and reading signs. It’s all too overwhelming for him together

I see your point but it’s always handy to have a manual licence, I think the issue is that they haven’t gone to a car park that’s empty and practiced moving off and reversing and getting to know the car

He is struggling with gear change at the right time as his brother still needs to remind him to change the gear at times. I agree having a manual license is good as I have but I drive an automatic car.

I don’t think the videos are fake but Jeremy being his “teacher” doesn’t cut it. Juvenal’s bad habits aren’t corrected properly. If he was to get a real instructor he would be fine but then there’s no content.
You clearly haven't watched the videos because he has had a real instructor multiple times and was still bad.

Should really use an instructor, at least for a while before the test as they can make sure you are doing all the petty little things like signalling, lane choice, observations correctly as you can fail the test for the stupidest reason these days.

I'm going to say this as an instructor for over 20+years.
Firstly. I don't know how old these videos are but please stop putting him through a Mock Test. There is no point and he does not learn this way.
He needs repetition and the tasks being broken down. I would also add that rather than doing a mock test you actually get some training yourself in how to structure a lesson. How to ask questions. Example. When he pulled up on the kerb and next to the vehicle you needed to understand how he made that decision. Parking on the kerb outside London is not an issue, but the choice of where he parked is questionable. Rather than tell him what you feel he should be doing ask another question like - Tell me about your decision to park here? This way you get understanding and what your brother is thinking. He may reply. I parked on the kerb because I wanted to get out the way, I stopped here because I don't like parking on the right. You then need to prompt him again and practice the task. Drive along a road and then ask a question like - Where are you planning to stop on this road?
The other thing and I felt sure I'd seen a video is stopped slogging Manual and switch to automatic.

For the length of time Juvenal has been learning he knows very little. He has to be told to do everything. He has no road sense. He is nowhere near test ready.

iv had drivers where they have said they have had 150+ driving lessons with 7-8 driving instructors and it's only taking that long because driving instructors keep holding me back. some people stuggle for years trying to get to test standard. some can learn as little as 10 hours of practice private or with instructor.
I have been trying since 2020 still not ready for test 😢
Yeah I never had an official instructor but I was driving independently by 6-12 months
i learned to drive ajd drive for work with only 4 hours ever behind the wheel, passed first try. It’s not about being perfect, no one is perfect after they get their license. It’s about being conscious of the road and the users and pedestrians around you, and then application of common sense all in real time. Driving isn’t that hard. Juvenal needs a real serious instructor
@@707josh IMO he doesn't even need a professional. He's clearly still very uncomfortable with the basics (steering, clutch, throttle, braking pressure, etc). His attention is overloaded when driving on the road because the basics aren't natural for him yet. Get him to an open field where he can just steer around cones/objects for a few hours, let him find his groove, then get him back on the road.

I must admit driving a bigger car must be daunting but his mirror checks are non exsistent apart from the odd look at the central mirror, Blind spot checks also. He only started to check his morrors more after you pulled him up on it and that only lasted for a few minutes. It seems he either wants babysitting through everything because he isnt to bothered about wanting to get his licence or he doesn't understand the danger he is putting himself in. I hope he passes soon with the right pro's

I know you love your brother, but please get him a few private lessons with an instructor where you don't tag along.You are a proficient driver, but you aren't the best teacher for him, at this stage in his driving. I think you have taught him all you can and you need to let someone else finish off his education. He needs someone to stay calm, not yell at him, and give him better advice on how to fix what he does wrong. Half the time he messes up you just yell at him for messing up, but don't tell him what to do for next time, your reactions to his mistakes are large and get him more distracted than he needs to be. Again, I know you love your brother, and you have taught him so much, and he has improved loads, but he is hitting a bit of a wall and needs an extra knowledgeable nudge from someone else to get him over these last few hurdles.

He needs to practice driving in a video game like Euro Truck Sim 2 or something similar, this has helped me bigly
City Car Driving, Forza Horizon 4/5 , they'll all do it.
I tried with ETS2, but to be honest it doesn't help, you just need to get out there and drive.
Although, maybe it can help a little with your mirrors and signalling, but that's about it.
@@colinjava8447 Hmm, well it helped me get the feel of understanding driving. ETS2 absolutely made me confident in driving. It helped me to understand how everything works together, and I found it useful to see what happens if you do things like drive too quickly, etc. That's too bad it didn't help you though...

Honestly I’m always hard on myself when it comes to driving but every time I watch his videos I feel better about driving.
i think the problem is he’s trying to teach him to drive professionally, not safely, encouraging him to drive faster will also make him drive faster along parked cars and all
I think you should concentrate on one topic every lesson, instead of doing a bit of everything. For example one lesson, you could do roundabouts. Next lesson, you could do clearance.

That’s a major black spot 16:00 no give way sign and the lines weren’t visible I wouldn’t have seen that either.
Much better improvement just needs to take the foot off the clutch a bit more slower and seeing his blindspots by turning his head not his eyes if he says he’s doing it. He also needs to work on his steering and indicators a lot more better he’s indicating too late

Can’t lie u teaching him to drive is hilarious but as long as he is driving with you and not an instructor he won’t improve. Needs to learn the basics, you should get him an instructor and go in the back during his lessons and that way you can still record the content and he will hopefully improve 👍🏻
Another thing is when he indicates he waits until he's at the junction then indicates and doesn't check his front mirror or the left/right one depending where hes turning.

I personally had to pass in a manual car just because my mom couldn't afford an automatic. I struggled a lot (4 fails) and I still have bad driving anxiety because I hate gear changes. Considering you have an automatic, I would recommend he first passes in that and later can in manual as well if he wants. I would sell all my organs to have that opportunity.

You should tell him to leave it in neutral at the lights and take his foot of the clutch. Ik it’s not allowed on the test but it’s more comfortable and makes driving a manual more fun not having ur foot down on the clutch the whole time while you’re not moving. He just can’t do it on the test
He’s got the ability he just lacks the confidence. He needs to be BIG on the road and stop hiding in knucks and crannies like behind vans etc. then he will finally fulfil his potential to become a top top driver.

You need to have a few lessons, probably in an empty car park or something, specifically for his steering. Let him drive an automatic so the only thing be has to think about is steering. He cant handle all of the different problems and it makes every action worse because he's never learned how to do the basic things like steering properly. Set out some cones for him to drive through and gradually bring them closer together so he has to get a feel for how to properly center the car. Eventually those things will become instinctual so he can do it without everything overwhelming him and he can properly learn how to actually drive on public roads because he can fully focus on reacting to the things happening around him.
Why don't he trying walking or running? More than driving licence he needs to walk or run. 😂

At this stage driving straight on a road shouldn’t make it a good drive. Almost anybody can do that. Juvenal just doesn’t get the rules of the road. He doesn’t listen to instructions or heed them. Everything and everybody else is to blame for his mistakes. He def needs a qualified instructor to measure if he has any potential and any chance of ever passing the driving test. At the minute he has zero chance.
