The man has spoken!!! I agree, and dearly beloved, even if it’s basic, it’s such a nostalgic song. I have a very deep connection with the Zelda soundtracks as well!
Yeah!! I love Zelda's music too!
Yoko's music in KH hits so many notes of nostalgia. Being with the series so long, some songs hit me more emotionally than anything I listened too on any other traditional album.
Me too!
Same dude, everytime I hear the music I wanna cry. Same with ff7
Persona 5 and Zelda music got me through college; Kingdom Hearts music helped me finish my book 😊
it's a shame video game music still doesn't get as much recognition as "normal music" but at least it seems to be getting a little bit better, still there's some absolute bangers people are missing out on only because it came from a game or anime
Very true! It's becoming more widely accepted sure, but we've still got a ways to go I feel
Yeah I listen to KH on long plane and car rides. I do NEO as well but most of the rides are over 5 hours or 3 hours but if it’s like a 4 hour thing then I do NEO
On the bright side that day I heard the FF15 theme on classical FM had me so excited when I was on a ‘road trip’ with my parents a while ago. I’m not used to hearing game music on the radio plus the Olympics moment in Tokyo was great 😊
Bury The Light got me motivated
I totally get it dude. As someone who’s gotten really into working out but is still a huge geek. I’ve put all the KH opening songs in my “In the Feels” playlist and trust me, it just hits different.
It does, doesn't it? I took work out to Video Game music and some of my favorite songs to listen to on the car are the KH openings
I'm so happy to see more people speak out for their love of the arts.
To me, music is the single greatest thing humanity has created. It is a language of feelings and sounds rather than words. It is the most understandable language and works as a translator for the feelings a story is trying to tell, whether through it or alongside it.
Great video, and I am glad you felt the drive to make it. Thank you. 🙂
No, Thank you for watching 😁
I listen to so many video game OST to study because there's no lyrics and they're so relaxing. I listen to "It Began With a Letter" all the time because there's something so mystical about it. Greenpath from Hollow Knight for hikes because it feels like I'm going on an adventure and discovering the world for the first time.
I totally agree that getting into and listening to video games OSTs is easier than other genres because we've put the work and emotional connection into these games. There's invested time and energy put into playing video games that really isn't there when it comes to music albums or singles.
Exactly!! I'm so glad you get where I'm coming from
Days was my very first Kingdom Hearts game. I'll never forget how the climax made me feel. By the time I heard Sanctuary at the credits, I just started crying. It was here that I decided two things: First, play the rest of the series. Second, identify this musical genius that stirred my heart so much.
Couldn't agree more
Couldn’t agree more! I wish more people could realize how much this music means to me! A lot of relatives or friends tend to write off my music tastes, simply because it’s from anime or games. That I’m getting “too obsessed” with them and that “it’s just a game/anime, it’s not that serious.” I haven’t really been able to find much mainstream music that has gotten me to cry or feel such intense emotions just from listening to them, but the beautiful soundtracks from both games and anime are just to emotional for me to describe. Love the content man, hope to see more soon!
Thank you for watching!! I'm so happy to find people that are like me 🤣 it's not that I don't like "regular music" but game and anime music just means so much more!
Rewatching this video 2 months in the future, I completely agree with the sentiment here. I don't remember the last time I listened to "real music" but whenever im playing a game or editing I just jam out to something like Knight of the Wind or KickBack. Honestly I think its just whatever you feel impersonates you at the moment resonates best
For as long as I can remember, music from games have been my favourite type of music and honestly sometimes the only type of music I listen to, like you said, I also don't have a specific favourite music genre. It's just whatever, but when it comes to game music it's a different scenario.
Usually whenever people ask me what type of music I like, I say, I don't have a favourite.
Because it's too much of a waste of time trying to explain how the concept of "game music" can be something I listen to a lot. So instead of wasting my time and the person in front of me's time, It's much easier to just say "I don't have a favourite, I don't listen to music much."
Because it is kind of true, many people don't consider game music a genre, so I don't see much point in trying to explain that concept to them, more power to them if that's what they think.
I relate to this so much, you have no idea
100% this! Project Destati's orchestral reimaginings of KH music were my study music throughout college. Any time I needed to hunker down and pop out an essay, KH music would back me. Now that I'm out of college, I play it and just vibe.
I use KH music for pretty much anything that doesn't involve sound
As someone who had a rough time growing up at the earliest point in my life, I found video game music as a haven. I still do to this day, to escape the realities of the real world. From any console I have played, I found real connections through its OST. An example I could give is Gwyn, Lord Of Cinder whenever I feel bittersweet or depressed. Whenever I feel like I've crushed adversity, the theme of Gwynevere, Princess Of Sunlight goes off. Whenever I feel calm, Majula from DS2 comes to mind.
I like Fromsoft's music over Square's but I will not deny that Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and Nier have made some absolute bangers. I don't remember the name of it personally, but I would highly recommend listening to Kefka's boss from FF6. The fact that that beautiful monster of a song originated from a 16-Bit machine is incredible. It was like someone used Crayola to make the Mona Lisa for crying out loud.
Thanks for my TedTalk.
i agree so much!! it's been 1-2 years that I mostly listen to instrumental soundtracks or lofi, rather than normal songs. on the other hand it's kinda sad that I can't really join my friends having karaoke sessions because i'm out of touch of the music trend 😂
I feel you there! I don't understand the hype behind the latest and greatest music artists in the US. I just don't. I like what I like and that's just that! Glad you agree!
As someone who cried the other day because I unexpectedly heard Dearly Beloved, I wholeheartedly agree. 🥰
Dearly beloved honesty makes me so happy tears every time I go awhile without hearing it and then hearing it unexpectedly 😭
MUSIC IS MUSIC
MUSIC IS MUSIC
PREACH!
It hurts me when people call the stuff on the radio "normal music"
I call it radio music because it doesn't diminish the value of music in other mediums, to say something is "normal" means that anything outside of it is considered weird and therefore lesser
Yoko Shimomura is probobly the best VGM composer of our time, right up there with Koji Kondo creating wide varieties of incredible music from Street Fighter II to Xenoblade Chronicles to Kingdom Hearts. Essentially every song this lady puts out is a masterpiece
That's just facts, she's a genius fr
I swear as far as characters go I identify the most with Riku:-)
Personally I AGREE to this and ever since i was young i ALWAYS wanted to make a radio station thats just FULL of video game music because AT THIS POINT VIDEO GAMES ARE SLOWLY TURNING INTO A KIND OF GENRE AT THIS POINT
I'd tune into that radio station all the time honestly!
The world ends with you osts go just as hard as anything on rhe radio
I agree with music making you feel something. Sometimes lyrics feel limited music is infinite and every time you listen it's like your heart and mind start speaking a thousand more unknown but felt words it feels infinite!
Why video games music in particular? Because they don't make these songs out of a mood like most of the stuff, it feels like every game track tells a story related to something. They always want to capture the sensation the feeling the moment not any moment but an imagined moment that's connected to a story. Ooor they could've also thought it up there are many games that don't necessarily have a story and yet they have great tracks too!
I always wanted to get into normal music everyone listens to but i couldn't keep it up... My ears enjoy the game's stuff haha
Still i do try whatever and see what i like, in the end the normal songs are best used to connect with other people than the game tracks
At least that's what i think :D
Ever since hearing simple and clean I been into video games music alot more.
Yeah!
"Me who has a "Music for work" playlist that has 68 songs in it and only 5 are not video game related" "I'm already doing that" Also, 3:48 to 4:00 that could actually be a fun video idea, get a friend and see who can name the KH track first, ProZD did something pretty similar to that actually.
That's not a bad idea, maybe sometime in the future!
Video game and anime music has been the only kind of music I ever liked to begin with.
She went from the piano medley of Dearly Beloved to throwing in a heavy electric guitar to head-bang to in 13th Dilemma -Saix-. Like BRUH
FR SHE HAS SO MUCH RANGEEE

Sonic music is pure fun and Kingdom Hearts is just beautiful 💙💙
So true 🤧🙏
I do enjoy KH music. And this is not game music but anime music I enjoy. The sound track for the western release of the Beyblade Anime 2000. Swing Low Let it Rip, Underdog, and Rise Above the Storm were my favorites.
Bruh I been listening to VG music for years, from middle school to being outta high school for 2 years now. And still do it TO THIS DAY lol. I do listen to other stuff from time to time though. Personal favorites to listen to are Jet set radio, Persona/Smt, Sonic, Yakuza/Judgment, Kingdom hearts, DOA/Tekken and DBZ Budokai.
video game music is so goated that many famous artists have sampled video game music for their own songs such as Drake with DKC 2
Fr!
Kingdom Hearts 2 soundtrack was amazing
It was!
I'd say I am currently obsessed with the KH OST (not everything, but some tracks and Hikaru Utada)
That's a good thing to be obsessed with honestly
Preach man!!! Preach!!! I love listening to video game music and i sometimes prefer listening to it over real music i listen to a variety of music from my favorite video game franchieses such as sonic, kingdom hearts, fire emblem, final fantasy, Call of Duty, super smash bros, marvel vs capcom 2, and others. I feel like video game music should definitely be normalized and should be normalized as a genre!!!
Yesss!!
I feel this so much with the Trails series. I have been listened to the soundtracks of the many games in the series almost exclusively for years now without getting bored of any of them. Want some calm adventure music? Secret Green Passage and The Way of the Tree Spirit are top-tier in letting you feel the mysticism of the forests they oversee. Wanna beat up monsters casually with friends? Strepitoso Fight gives a jazzy approach where as Brave Steel goes with more of a rock leaning. Wanna take down freaking gods? Dreamy and Boisterous Holy Land and The Azure Arbitrator are some of the most intense boss themes I've ever heard in my decades of gaming. The series covers so many genres of music and I have yet to hear a track I don't vibe with in some way, partially due to the outstanding quality but also because of the thousands of hours I've spent making connections to the characters and scenes that give these soundtracks life. Will I get weird looks sometimes? Sure, but I'm blasting Geo-Front without a care in the world because that flute gives me life and I wouldn't have it any other way
Oh thank because that take my fear get away from me
It's funny. I actually got into video game music early on and honestly... it's amazing
Its so good!
Good video! I agree with your takes.
Thank you!
Most of the music of KH to me is from good to amazing.🤩
A freaking man! I love video games soundtrack: dynasty warriors, persona 5 , dark souls, Elden ring, Kingdom hearts are ơn of my favorites! I use Video games music for reading, working out or just vibing!
Me too! I love listening to game music all the time! Music is music!
The thing about Video Game and Anime music is it's in the moment a lot of the time, which makes the emotions in it hit even harder.
Of course I love music from people like Lady Gaga and My Chemical Romance, but music in Anime, Cartoons, Games, and other media are just as good, and sometimes even better. The amount of times I've sung Sonic songs or hummed Undertale songs in the past few weeks is unreal.
Since you mentioned Sonic the hedgehog. Sonic is one of my favorite video game franchises I grow up liking
Me too ^^
Memories of You from Persona 3 is my cat's theme. Video game music can be important.
It's very important to me and it sounds like it is to your cat as well
@@KeyofTime15 Was, but yes.
By the way I think the ture dandelion is the player character and what Lxux sent is a new body for him to use in the events of kingdom hearts missing link as it's clear that he is somewhat special(he seems to be the strongest keyblade wielder in his generation)
Fantasia Alla Marcia for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra is my favorite musical piece ever. So I completely agree with this.
I literally have a playlist that's just Yoko destroying my soul and rebuilding it for like seven hours and it's probably the thing I listen to the most. So much emotion with no words. Absolutely beautiful. No shame whatsoever
The music in video games can be really expensive. So it's not like they'er low quality. Just because they're in a video game.
Well I appreciate the reassurance 😅because game music is all I listen to (other than stuff I’ve heard of the radio)
*meant to say ‘on the radio’ 😅
Well Said !
very agreed great vid👏
I think its way more normalized than most will admit
I do that on the plane or in the car
Niceee
Based
Hearing any kind of music from my childhood makes me feel nostalgic and sad at the same time
Me too honestly
I listen to game music more than anything else honestly. Pop music is usually garbage. Gaming music tends to be closest to classic music with how experimental it is.
Jamming to Video Game OSTs have been a thing of mine since High School and I continue to do that to this day, while trying to branch out on my music tastes. 😅
However, I've definitely been on the receiving end of "Just listen to normal music", "Music from Video Games isn't real music".
-_- Boi, if music playing during a movie scene, does that mean it isn't real music either?
For real! I've had those same arguments thrown my way before. Like don't judge what I listen to just because 90% of the time It doesn't have lyrics xD
@@KeyofTime15 truuue. For me, it's definitely music from KH and Persona that actually got me through College exams ; . ;
Anxiety and self-worth and all that 😕
Gee it’s like you can read my mind 😊
This is what im saying
I'm sorry. Are people not listening to video game music regularly? I have video game music in multiple playlists. Video game songs are bangers. How do people not listen to them regularly?
Maybe gamers do, myself included
But not everyone likes video games! Which is fine, but especially when I was growing up it was weird to listen to Game music over stuff made by whichever celebrity was popular that week
definitely a water sign
he's a Scorpio 💙
source: I'm his fiancé
@@mortwigophae thought so 😭
@@roxas.5787 what's wrong with that? lol
dude I play splatoon music in my car, I don't give a FUCK what other people think lol
Some splatoon songs are total BOPS
@@KeyofTime15 I don't want anyone saying Calamari Inkantation and Fly Octo Fly aren't bops to jam out to. Anarchy Rainbow is also hella good
Yo man. I totally agree with you. I actually started making myself a video game music playlist like 2 days ago since I slept on it since I guess I thought I had to listen to other music to seem “normal”. I was tweaking and realized it doesn’t matter what others think. As long as I like the song, I should listen to it. Great video!
Exactly!! Thanks For watching Kibble!
I personally want anime ost to be more normalized
This is a pretty popular opinion tbh. Only people who'll say otherwise are people who either don't play games or only play mobile games, shooters and sports titles.
I listen to Sonic the hedgehog soundtracks all the time. Easily my favorite music to listen to. Especially Sonic Frontiers, it's soundtrack is fire in my opinion. How I can tell if I'll like a song is if it has some kind of positive message I can get from it or if it's something that can get my imagination working. Like I can listen to it and see a fight scene in my head or a made up video game boss fight or something.
I love sonic's soundtracks too!! Especially Adventure 2, I love that game so much and the music is timeless
Wait its not normal?
I am literally only listening to video game music because the celebrity musics are garbage
To be absolutely fair
Videogame music is often composed by actual experts!! Not like celebrities who copy paste older tracks and act like its theirs
I had my first experience with Yoko back in Legend of Mana and already felt in love with her music back then
I guess it's not that it's not normal, it's just not the usual thing "normal people" listen to
Cool but im throwin you off the aux if that's all you playing in the whip.
