Personally my new favorite is the Astral Self. I was really hoping it was gonna be released officially is Theros. Other than that the Shadow is my favorite for sure. Silence and darkness are such a great option especially when you can always convince the party to only act at night.
I really like that you didn't stick to the tropes, and really gave YOUR opinion. It's great to see why other people enjoy certain subclasses. Brings a viewpoint somebody watching may not have thought of
Hey Richard, I'm genuinely impressed that you chose to play a Way of the Kensei Monk. Some other things that you didn't mention about it include the fact that you can choose either melee or ranged weapons that don't have the "heavy" or "special" properties(Longbow is the only exception). This means that you can also choose versatile weapons(battleaxe, longsword, warhammer). Another ability allows you to increase your AC by 2 by simply holding a Kensei weapon in one hand and trading off an unarmed strike!!
I really like the synergy with the Half-Orc racial of Relentless Endurance and the Way of the Long Death Monk, that is the race class combo I'm running in my next campaign, going to say he is obsessed with death and staving it off so he can learn as much as he can from the master of his monastery, a lich or vampire or some other undead creature but not necessarily an evil creature.
Hey there from Germany. You are the first DM, beside my DM^^, who says that Way of the Kensei is the best subclass for monks. I feel what you said about it, because I have the same thoughts and meaning about it. The Way of the Kensei is the most underrated path of monks in DnD 5e. The way they fight, the multitude of potential possibilities and above all the affinity for using weapons instead of spells make the Kensei Monk the Shaolin Monk of the Forgotten Realms. Here it is especially thanks to the abilities through the path of Kensei, as also described there, that the monk becomes a weapon himself through the use of the weapon. Just brilliantly implemented, I love it. Thank you for your wonderful way of wanting to bring this way of the monks closer to the people.
Yeah, way of the four elements it's a not for me, it should be on the bottom of the list. The concept is great, but you just sacrifice every other crazy good option to be able to cast a few spells for a pretty heavy cost in ki (until late game, that most games don't reach) and for spells that most of the time won't give you the damage you need, the tool you're looking for, or will do, but sucking you dry of ki in the process. There are some really good revised homebrews online, but vanilla Way of the FE is almost unplayable
@RPG Daily just because something is different doesn’t mean it’s good I really don’t like kensei because if you’re playing a monk going to punch something if you want to stab something real good play a Rogue or A fighter etc. etc. etc.
I can agree with that opinion, if you want your character to be really good at something there is certainly a class that is the best at everything. But for me, I rarely play to be the best at one thing, I like the subclasses that I would find fun to play. And of course, like I said, the list is just my opinion. Is it a mechanically correct opinion? Definitely not.
I enjoyed the video, but you did leave out a tradition for the Monk. Would you like to share your thoughts on Sun Soul Monks or do you not really have one?
@@TheRPGDaily oh sorry for the slight scare. It was just you offered your top monk classes but you didn't include sun soul as part of the list. I'll check the video out
My order of monastic traditions from best to worst (I am leaving out the mercy and astral self since they are not official yet and might change from the UA) 1) Kensei 2) Shadow 3) Open Hand 4) Long Death 5) Drunken Master 6) Sun Soul 7) Four Elements

Thank you I was really trying to bring something different to the table here. I'm glad it worked!

Thnx for this vid!
Eventually I’ve found out what subclass to choose
Really enjoy mercy for flavor text as a heart, but in the end it’s kind of MEH.. same thoughts from you I take it since it was not mentioned?

"Way of the Four Elements monk"
*looks askance at channel*
I am thinking of playing a monk in Dragon Heist, eventually going the way of the shadow. Either that or rogue.
I've always felt like that would be really fitting for that campaign!
Damn! Really want to try a kensei now!
Right!

@RPG Daily basically what I meant was monks are meant to punch not stab

you scared me for a moment, I thought i had done a Sun Soul video. Here it is. ruclips.net/video/TjMfvrGrvcE/видео.html

Just a side note. Love the shirt.
I had been thinking for 2 weeks trying to come up with a notable saying from the brotherhood of steel but in the end I've failed. Thank you!
