You love this bike for a good reason, sometimes less is more, don't let yourself get sucked in to the Tenere. Few bikes can touch the Rally's overall balance encompassing both those tangible design elements and somewhat intangible elements of pure satisfaction that put a smile on your face every time, every place.
I drop my 2023 300 Rally at least 2 or 3 times every time I ride offroad and it's my "street-legal" dirt bike. I've broken a clutch lever even with full-wrap handguards and twisted the forks up multiple times but I still haven't broken any of the plastics. They are scratched all to hell and I've given up on ordering my Africa Single decals but they are a lot stronger than anyone gives them credit for. I think more people are afraid of breaking them, than have actually done so.
Well I would have lost that bet as I figured you would be selling it. Glad to hear you are keeping it, as I am sure there are plenty more great videos you can make with it. Keep up the good work dude…
I owned a T7 and - to me - the throttle jerkyness was horrible. Let off the throttle and it threw me forward. Give it some throttle and it wanted to throw me off the back. I'm older and didn't want/need the adrenaline rush riding the T7. Now I own the new Himalayan 452 and I LOVE it. The only modification I'm needing is bar risers. So no need to spend the additional money -its great right off the showroom floor.
I haven’t decided about mine yet bought it in March but I was sidelined this summer with shoulder surgery. I saved about $1000 by buying it used with 500 miles on it. It had bars, risers, and hand guards , and a tail tidy done to it. I hesitate spending a bunch of money on it. The only things I don’t like are its tall and lack of power. I’m thinking I would like another Dr650. Buy used with some mods already on it. Because buying new and then spending more money on it doesn’t make good sense because you get into KTM 690 money.
I'm thinking of selling my Rally also BUT I really like it. I just rode the new Himalayan at the Touratexas Rally and fell in love with it. Just a little lower to the ground and it comes with good suspension out of the box and will cruise very comfortably at 70+mph. I have about 4k in upgrades to my Rally and still smile when I ride it but wouldn't want to take it on a very long trip where the Himalayan would have no problem doing so. Your video is making the decision even harder lol.
@@reg26 yeah that new Himalayan is so nice! And as for selling our rally with all the mods, I doubt we would get any of the value back from them. Might just be a keeper. Not worth selling for $5k
Keep in mind that Himalayan is going to require more frequent service intervals then the Honda. If you do high miles it’s going to be costly. The 1st two valve adjustments are at 6k and then another at 12k then it’s every 12k after that. Shim over bucket on the new one and it’s a lot more installed then the old 411. The two dealers that sell RE by me are both over an hour away, you have to drop off and pick up and each service is about $800.00 which is a lot for a $5400,00 bike. I have the 411 version which is okay, I’m not a cultist when it come to it like so many, but it’s cheap for parts and easy as hell for doing your own service.
@@thegreenman2030 My Honda is my second bike and I only use it for BDR type rides and putting around town so service intervals are of little concern to me and I do all my own service anyway (except valves) and a valve check ay 6k is no big deal really. But the Himi was a hoot to ride on and off road. I loved it.
Remember shorter riders wider seat , harder to touch ground , I owned the Rally for six months , stock seat for me 100kg 5ft 8 28 inch inseam was comfortable enough for six hour rides with petrol and coffee stops
Traded my T7 for the CRF Rally. Did NOT care for the extra weight of the T7 at all, off road. On road, T7 all day, but I have other bikes for road work. I wanted a light weight dual sport for mostly off-road. Weight, or lack thereof, was key in my decision. Have no plans for 500 mile days with 60-70% road. BUT, if I did, the CRF could do it if needed, albeit not a comfortable as the T7. Again, my criteria was light weight, mostly off-road use, but with "some" ability for light touring...just to get to the trailhead.
Keep it ❤ The Tenere 700 is between the AT and Rally. For me ... it would be fun to try out ... but as a temporary addition to the stable... not replacing the Rally. Have fun !!
You can get the new himalayan for about the same price of the 300l rally or a little bit more you can get the mt450, but you also get about 100lbs heavier bikes, so for dual sport i think the 300l rally still the winner 🏆
I have always loved the rally, but i could not justify buying it for that price, i finally bought the RE himalayan 450 hanle black with tubeless and a rally protection option and it comes down to the same price as the msrp of the rally here in Belgium. So i got better suspension, smooth power delivery, more power, a centerstand, great tech and display. The only thing it does not have over the rally is the high windscreen standard, but that is easely and cheaply solved
I have issues with buying a bike and then adding mods that cost 50% or more of the cost of that bike to get it the way I would want. At that point shouldn't you just get a different machine?
As someone who has a CRF300 rally and has previously owned a T7, I would definitely keep the rally. The T7 is a great bike, particularly the engine, but you will find yourself taking the rally to places you would never take the T7.
This is exactly me. I still have my T7 and a 300l non-rally but I run the Acerbis tank snd adv spec mini fairing. Taller with Rally Raid lvl 2 suspension. I wouldn't dream of taking my T7 anywhere near where I will on the 300. Even when running my 19/17 wheels with50/50 tires.

I got a 2020 , love it I'm 61 yrs old
Keep it another year, enjoy the mods....I have both an AT and 300 rally

So how much you want for the rally?
