I’m sorry. This comment will probably be deleted but them two don’t deserve to have children. YOU decided to adopt these children which makes you responsible for their wellbeing, behaviour etc. If these children were born with issues due to the biological mother being addicted to drugs or alcohol & the children have behavioural, mental or physical issues due to that, that’s NOT THIER fault. But it is/was YOUR responsibility to raise these children, show them love, kindness teach them manners & respect but YOU failed & YOU discarded these children like they were trash because they didn’t live up to your expectations. You both should be ashamed of yourselves. Thank god for Ms Powers for taking these boys in & showing them love & kindness. Please don’t adopt anymore children & I hope no adoption service would ever let you adopt again

16:12 “How do we buy school clothes for them? Do we just go tell our 16 year old [bio child] she has to get a job to but school clothes now?” What about your sixteen year old son who you kicked out?! Buying school clothes is not ANY of the children’s responsibility! How about you put their needs ahead of your dreams and get a job??
My thoughts at the halfway point: If the children needed more support than the parents could provide and the parents could not afford to care for the children’s basic needs without a stipend, they should have gone for PMC, not adoption, so they could continue on state insurance and have access to services for foster children. I truly don’t think adoption should be preferential to PMC, because it makes it so much harder on the kids when their adoptive parents turn out to not be up to the task (I’m being very generous in my wording here). It sounds like the guardian is doing all the work of a foster parent without any of the support or resources the boys would get if they were under a PMC or otherwise placed with the current guardian by the department, and that’s not fair to the child or guardian. Ugh, I hate this situation all around

Im adopted myself. I can assure you the the state nor the local authority does not prepare the adopted family or give any support to the child on how to properly adapt to the new family unit. Its hard both ways - the parents dont make a natural bond and the child is in distress because they do not recognise any familar (emotionally and physically) people around them. We bond with our mothers no matter how shit they are. Taking that away causes an immense amount of turmoil for the child. People are wildly unprepared for this. Something as simple as an open honest group therapy would work. In my experience taking on the child and expect them to behave as if they're biologically their's isn't working. Same can be said when people adopted as babies, all the turmoil comes out as teenagers because the trauma of being removed from the mother is internalized due to not being able to vocalise the trauma. Wish we could do more. This could have been avoided at a relatively low cost and a bit of compassion.

I was adopted when I was almost 3 years old and this was one of my biggest fears for my entire life; the fear of my parents getting tired of me and giving me up or just plain sending me back. I was also troubled and had emotional issues and just was terrified that they would reach the end of the rope and just give me up. Thankfully, I have the best parents in the world and they promised me over and over again that that would never happen, that I was theirs until the end of time. These people should be ashamed of themselves. Don't adopt a child if you are not in it for the long run.

It’s so disturbing that people who chose to take on the responsibility and privilege of raising a child could ever send them back or reject them in any way. It’s like ripping the floor out from under someone…a vulnerable child at that! It makes me ill! I’m so glad that you were finally able to settle and know that your family is forever! It breaks my heart that you lived with such a terrifying thought/fear. I once told my Mother that I wanted new parents and my mom said “ok” and walked out if my room.I was in the 1st grade and I remember for a week after every time school would end and the principal would announce the names of the kids whose parents were there to pick them up I would shake with fear thinking that she would announce my name and my “new parents “ would be waiting for me. I was a bus rider! That is a core memory and it was terrifying but it’s nothing compared to what you went through and not for just a week. I wish you the best! Take care.

That's what pisses me off. She talks about her adoptive kids as if they're different from her bio kids. And then wants to know why her adoptive kids feel alienated and acting out. If she couldn't handle special needs kids she shouldn't have adopted them. Just the fact that she talks about them like they're a problem instead of real human beings sickens me. And then she goes further and tries to blame Ms. Powers for taking them in. And I don't believe her when she says Kadin ran away. I think she freaked out and kicked him out. They had a biological daughter and for as long as I can remember when we would have little kid spats she would be allowed to say I should be returned to the orphanage. When I learned at school one day what it meant to be a foster child, I ran home in tears and asked my mom if I was finished when I was 18. I’ll never forget age said, “No, we’re stuck with you for good.” To this day, when I sign my name, I feel like I’m an imposter, or I’m stealing their identity, and I’m 60 years old.

I could understand this sentiment if you were taking a 17 year old foster child in and they were having behavioral issues, but this is crazy. My niece is adopted from the foster system and she moved in with them at age 3. She is my niece and my brother's child now, full stop. She had a very rough first three years, her biological dad was in prison for killing a cop, and her mom was/is a drug addict. No doubt she took significantly more parenting work than some other children, but she's a teenager who's doing wonderfully now because my brother and sister tried to give her everything she needed. They treated this child as an inconvenient paycheck. Disgusting.

You move into a smaller home, cut unnecessary expenses.. whatever! When you adopt, you take 100 percent accountability and responsibility for that child as if you gave birth to them! I need more info on this story. Did they adopt them to save them or were they looking to add more joy to their family? There's a difference! Did they know these boys? Doesn't sound like it. Sounds like they sought to adopt. If you seek to adopt, make sure you can financially and mentally take on that responsibility! If you are adopting to save a child that you know is in trouble is a whole other ball game! It's very obvious that when you adopt or foster in cases like this, there's probably going to be some trama issues with these kids! That's why they are in the system to begin with. Sounds like they only adopted to get an income from the state. Doesn't sound like they even tried to show any kind of love or compassion to the adopted children. My brother and his wife adopted 2 boys (both brothers) who are special needs at the ages of 10 and 7 and they are now 43 and 41....there were challenges over the first few years but they were never kicked out because of it we just worked through them. One of them is crazy about Legos, audiobooks, collecting pennies. playing video games and writing random information down in his many notebooks. The other one loves reading any book he can get his hands on, anything Star Wars or shark related, telling jokes (some good some not but we laugh anyway) and playing video games. They are awesome human beings because they got the love and support they needed to have a fair chance in this world they live in. My nephews are wonderful men today and can not imagine our family without them in it.

Shady parents. I'm glad the boys are out of their house

Interesting how as soon as Jennifer Powers began to talk about her experience taking in the boy the adoptive mother came right back in form her cool down and was already shaking her head.

It’s horrible that after 13 years, they still refer to him as an adopted kid. And after that long, they haven’t been able to love him like a real parent.
It’s so obvious those two goons who claim to be parents are monsters

And they wonder why the kids are mad and acting out. If that’s how she talks about him to other imagine what she says when no one is looking

They only adopted those poor boys for the money. Adoptive parents with this history should be investigated.😮😮😮

Of course they were. Just like all the people they scammed through their business at KIGI nursery!

They said they got a $900.00 monthly adoption benefit from the state. Hardly enough to feed, cloth, transport or house a child but it probably helps.

So you think they adopted the 3 year old to grow up to be their nursery worker but he kicked holes in their walls instead? 🤔

This judge was very easy on the parents. He was too nice in my opinion.
