I'm curious why this was a news piece. I'm a news editor, so from my point of view, if the police or the legal system are involved, then that adds weight and validity to the story - it's then basic reporting to say A Thing has happened (allegedly), here are the facts, and here's how matters are progressing. Fine. That's totally normal, and fair, and factual. But that's not what this piece had - it just had a presenter and a journalist, running entirely through what's been alleged, and then - that's it. No police or legal framework to add credence to the claims and allegations, and consequently, no assumed mechanisms of justice for the guy accused of this stuff. I know absolutely Nothing whatsoever about him - never heard of him in my life - and for all I know, he's a giant sleazebag, or a Saint, but either way, just running through fairly detailed allegations against him in a public forum like this? Nope. You'd never, ever do that here - you'd be leaving yourself wide open to a legal action from Him, while also running the risk of interfering with his right to justice and the full and fair workings of The Law. So, a curious story indeed, and I don't know if that's normal in America that you can just report allegations and claims - every word of which could be true, or false - without any parallel policing or legal connections to justify such reporting, but it seems wrong, to me. That's more like unverified gossip than reportage, frankly - that's why to be fair to all parties involved, you *must* have some kind of policing or legal action currently in place to justify and validate what you're reporting as allegations - allegations that require Official follow-uo to either prove or disprove, with either outcome validating and justifying your reporting of same.
