    Other manufacturers besides Liberty also use these Securam locks, so good on you guys for jumping out ahead of this and empowering the end user. Let's hope that manager's code was the only additional backdoor tied to each lock serial number.

      @@SecureItGunStorage What about the Securam manufacturer reset code? That is the code that people are concerned right now. This video seems very carefully worded and disingenuous if it was released to address the controversy right now. Last I checked the only way to actually get rid of the MRC on these Securam electronic locks after user codes have been set involves cutting traces on the board...

      So correct me if I'm wrong, but based on my research, in order to make sure that Tyrany residential security container company doesn't have a master code to one of their safes, purchase a lock body with cash from a safe dealer and replace the old one. The code is actually stored in the lock body, not the keypad. So if you replace the lock body, Tyrany (liberty) will give the code to the alphabet boys and it won't work. And since the lock body is inside the safe, they won't be able to see the serial number on the new lock body. Again, please correct me if I'm wrong.

      The point of my statement is that many people think having a mechanical lock is more secure or that this whole fiasco doesn’t apply to them simply because they have a mechanical lock. They also think changing the combination on their mechanical lock will save them. What they don’t realize is that there are only so many positions you can set a mechanical wheel. You can change the combination all you want. If someone has the original combination, the new one can be figured out in a manner of minutes. You can change the position of the wheel to the dial but you can’t change the distance between the striker and the window on the wheel. That gives a mechanical lock a very limited number of possible combinations. If you already know 1 possible combination, the others are quite simple to figure out.

    Based on SecuRam's documentation, I think you've got the manufacturer and user code swapped. Also note that it's possible to disable/delete the user code completely so there is only one valid code, which may be what some customers want.

I replaced the lock on an old Winchester safe with the TopLit from Securam that matched my Liberty safes and noticed that when I unlock the Liberty safes, I get 2 beeps, but the one from the Securam beeps once.

    There is nothing inherently wrong with Liberty Safes or with the various third party locking mechanisms they use. The problem, and it is a VERY big problem, is that their current owners developed such an abusive corporate philosophy regarding their role in producing safes and their condescending attitude toward their customer base.
    The corporation, “Liberty Safe”, has no excuse for this type of betrayal. If I owned a Liberty product, I’d just reprogram the digital lock or replace it with a conventional mechanical dial type. And then make certain everyone knows that they should never buy any products from Liberty Safe. Never.

      Another question is, does Liberty have the combination for mechanical locks on file, too? When I was in the Army, they regularly changed the combination to mechanical safe locks. The S&G mechanical locks used on safes can change the combo, with the right knowledge and tools.

    • @johnoldman5877
      @johnoldman5877 11 месяцев назад

      There can be only one combination on a mechanical dial lock. Normally when I buy a safe, that lock is at the manufactures default. Always change the combination. You can do so yourself with proper tool, and good locks will ship with that tool. @@brucestarr4438

    • @wlnorris75
      @wlnorris75 11 месяцев назад

      @@brucestarr4438 Most safe manufacturers who serialize their safes do keep records of the original lock combination that shipped with the safe. I mean no one who buys a $3000 safe wants to pay a locksmith a few hundred dollars to destroy it, because you forgot the combination. Most people aren't interested in total security, just enough security to stop a random thief.
      I've been able to buy locked safes and after providing the manufacturer with some proof I am the owner (bill of sales from auction houses, etc), they have sold me copies of the original keys and provided the original combination. I think the most I have paid is $25 to get the info, and send a few faxes back and forth.
      I never recommend anything other than a good old fashioned high quality dial lock. When you get your safe, it is easy to modify the mechanical combination and then you are the only person in the world who knows the combination. Then be ready to have your safe drilled in the event your forget, so at the minimum, you are getting a door replaced (but probably buying a new safe).

      @@brucestarr4438 As far as I know, most(?) safe companies keep combinations on file for mechanical locks. But then, it's not hard to figure out how to change the combination for yourself, or it's even easier to make sure there's no serial number on the outside of your safe.
      Whoever wants to will still get in, because angle grinders are a thing, but it's usually best to make them work for it.

      I dont know exactly what happened. But if all liberty did was tell the cops to hit 0 six times then 123456 then he literally just read the manual to them. They could have went to Walmart and read the manual or just pulled one up on their phones and figured that out. If thats the case, then all this is was the Fed’s being too lazy to pull up a manual on their phones and called customer service who read it to them.
      This procedure works on more than the securam locks. It will work with any lock using that circuit board. Which is probably most of them.
      You can also set both codes the same and only have 1 combination that will open it. I dont know why anyone would need two different combinations for the same lock.
      Mine works just like this as well but i didnt have to pull the lock and factory reset. I just hit the 0’s and changed the other code to the same as my code

      Yes low tech brute force is easier at that point but what so many are losing sight of is that the FBI cannot claim their warrant covered this ‘safe’ if they had to hack or destroy to access the contents. By having the manufacturer unlock the ‘safe’ it removed the risk of overstepping the warrant. It is to cut off one of wires for proper button AFTER recording your code to one that does not use that button. Then even manufacturer will not know how open or override the code you have. You got it all wrong if its attached to a liberty safe! If its a liberty safe you drag it outside and pile about 200lbs of thermite on it and melt it into slag. Then you go buy a safe from someone who doesnt activly support those who seek to take away our 2a rights and is a 100 percent mechanical lock with no company anywhere having the combination aside from yourself. THAT is how you reset these "locks"!

      Stop being over dramatic. The end result doesn't change. Liberty was always going to give the FBI the passcode, it was just a matter of when. And no, the owner would not have access to the safe in the meantime.

      @@andrewschliewe6392 oh it matters if your the owner of that safe and your home was wrongfully raided! In case you arent aware, the whole purpose of a safe is to keep people out INCLUDING LAW ENFORCEMENT and make them work for it if they wanted in that bad. By not making their policy of handing over codes without a court order THEY VIOLATED THE TRUST OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. If no code was surrendered then they still would have gotten in but they would have had to work for it,... which oddly enough is EXACTLY WHAT A SAFE IS SUPPOSED TO DO! If you buy a car that has a device on it that cops can use to disable it remotely are you just going to trust that system to not be misused by the police? I sure as hell dont.
