Great clip MrSp. I've got a dairy farm on Meadowgrove with quite a few grass fields. I definitely noticed difference after I made them into fields with plow (besides benefit of being able to use workers) I sometimes forego 2nd fertilisation stage to save time/money/wages.
My play through on Baltic Sea has lead to an all grass farming experience for silage, so I decided to go back to these videos - and I’m glad I did! No need to plow and lime, I’ll plow my field edges and seed, then just fertilise to 100%! Thank you kind sir! 🙏🏻
Thanks mate, a very good test, I tend to plough and lime grass fields purely because when viewing the in game map at field states, I'm only ever looking at my crop fields from there on. Thanks again for the hard work you put in mate.
Interesting point about Ploughing up the map areas 👍, was surprised adding the lime, didn’t improve it, just remember when fertilising use the scarifier or free digestate from the BGA, that way all it costs is your running costs.
Thanks for this video! I’ve often wondered if plowing made a difference. I always assumed it did and therefore I wasted a lot of time plowing... awesome work thank you!
Great video, always put a lot of work into these tests. One thing I think is worth testing though is the difference between mowing then raking, and using the Krone or Novacat Crossflow which mows and swaths at the same time. I'm certain I got a lower yield using the Novacat Crossflow, than I did mowing then raking.
Has my vote for a follow up video. Might as well add in there how much can you rake it over and over before the yield reduces (the in game info just states a loss if over raked).
I remember back in FS2013 the Kidd forage harvester mod would give insane yields because it had something like a 3-fold increase in yield programmed into the harvester itself for some reason.
@@4evryoung230 you may be right, but I shifted production from raking then square bailing + wrap, to Novcat Crossflow + round auto-baling and noticed a substantial reduction in bale count. 🤔
@@pmyraje that may be the case but all the machine's now i haven't seen anything in them that would increase the yields but I'll look at the mods to double check but for the moment it's not in base machinery
Quite a useful video even for FS19 experts. I am glad someone took the time to evaluate. Point of interest from an actual farmer, rarely do you EVER lime or equivalent an type of grass or hay field. These type of actions are done during crop rotation periods ONLY and after either heavy cultivation, subsoiling, harrow or plow,
Kristoffer Andre Aarsheim I agree. This needs to be retested with actual unplowed field grass. The only way to achieve that is to plant and harvest corn or sugarbeet or potato, something that requires plowing after and then planting grass.
another great video thanks for the time you put into these. all of those that can only criticize, complain, and insult SealyP ....... I don't see you doing any of these videos...... just saying
Plowing didn't affect the field because the field didn't need to be plowed so none of the grass was getting the yield penalty for not plowing. You even show at 15:10 that the field doesn't need plowing. You should either re-do the plowing test or make a pinned comment informing people of this error. If it is saying that it needs plowing it WILL affect your grass yield. Plow it and plant grass. Shouldn't be an issue unless you are converting an arable field to grass though as plowing is only required after corn, potatoes, sugar beets, and sugar cane.
Another brilliant test - thanks. The results should actually not be surprising, but hammering it out in detail always helps. Fertilizing should always give +15% per spray or spread and it does. The conclusion is crystal clear and so is your message. A superb test!
BRILL upload MrP don't really mess with grass usually but have always wondered how best to get the most out of it with plowing, lime and fertilizer n wether it would make a worthwhile difference so I applaud you for doing this today, Keep it up and have a Nice Day 👍
Wow. Now that is a real objective test. Thank you for the info. Onlu one thing, the advantage of having map grass is, that you can let workers plow your fields, because if you had field grass he would have jusr ploughed through.
Nice vid MrSealyp, missing a field grass with nothing at all soo we could compare the yield with map grass. Also all field seems to have been plowed, no info saying "Needs plowing" on any strip.
Hey have you ever thought about testing the value of log lengths? Do you get paid more for longer or is their a limit to that? Take a single tree and chop it up into 1m lengths and see the value and then same tree and 2m and so on
under season mod, the 100% fermented silage bale sold for very little money, like a grass bale. but if you sell silage in loose, the value is normal again. could this be a bug?
Thank you very much for the time you take to do these test. This is exactly why so many of us SealyPEEP say and believe you are the BEST FARMING SIMULATOR RUclipsR!!!
You lose crop using a forager due to systems (vacuums and blowers) it goes through after being chopped by the knives. You see a lot of green dust off the forager as well as the loss of crop from the spout. The wagon lifts and chops straight into storage - collecting more crop.
dear MrSealyp, I believe that the ploughing has to do with the field state. The fields that you said haven't been ploughed didn't say that they still needed it yet. This means that the field state didn't change.
When do you harvest grass? In the first harvest state or second? I have seen a video in which it is recommended to wait for the second harvest state. What do you think?
I think there is a problem with strip 4 and 5 or maybe it is just poorly explained. When u walked over strip 4 it never said it needed plowing so the penalty of not having it plowed wasent taking any effect as it dident need it before the test. This can also be seen when u showed the fert layers at the end of the video. There was no red stripes on the field so strip 4 dident have the need plow stat penalty on it. So strip 4 and 5 is in the same situation and becouse of that gives the same yield. Even as u plow strip 5 becouse strip 4 dosent say it need plowing there yield was the same. By seeding grass u never need to plow the field unless it needs plowing before u seed it. The Lime however was a big suprise as i expected a diffrence in yield.
I know you only need to fertilize fields twice but would grass fields after been fertilized 3 times effect the yield because it doesn't make sense to have a visual reference for the 3rd level of fertilization if it makes no difference what so ever.
Ok before i watch This just my thought based on Real Life Lime does make a differance cause of the PH of the soil You get more liters with the loader cause its Not cut therefore Not as compresed but Same mass/weight overall
Thank you for doing this, I love using grass for silage great source of easy income. I always wondered if there was a significant difference. Good idea with plowing and seeding grass!
Great test video but when you were chaffing the grass, it registered as grass in the trailer instead of chaff. Also I would imagine that seasons would make a difference to the grass yield.
@@svenvolwater5473 so I did a quick test. The yields are the same across all three... a fully prepared field will almost double your yield. But that is to be expected seeing as more crop makes more straw.
I don’t think you really tested the effects of plowing/ not plowing properly. As it shows on the last screen, plowing wasn’t needed on this field, so it doesn’t have any effects on the yield of this field. So I’d like to see another test where you compare the yield of a field that really needs to be plowed with the yield of a field that doesn’t need to be plowed. I’m sure there will be a difference...
Mate, I think the first one was not chaffed grass. The header on the forage harvester was just a pick up which acts exactly like a loading wagon hence, you have grass in the Randon trailer not chaff. To chaff the grass you need to use a crop header on the forage harvester like the KRONE XDISC 620. That header will cut the grass and than the harvester will chaff and shoot that chaff into the trailer. But still I don't think you will get a different yield.
@@CYDRDH I read. And I was just pointing out that changing the head does not change what the harvester does. It's still works the same way. All you are changing is how the grass is picked up.
@@jameslathrop1802 sorry. Didn't mean to be rude. Are you sure what you say tho? Because those headers are specifically designed to cut the crop (grass, wheat, barley, etc) and feed it to the harvester to be chaffed whereas the pick up headers just pick up the swath and feed it to the pipe to be shot into the trailer. I remember using those headers for chaffing grass at the very beginning of fs19. If they changed that in one of the updates then I don't know.

So 100% fertilization adds almost an entire additional standard bale of grass for each strip of that length. That's... quite the difference!

Very helpful. I've found if you mow and let it regrow then collect. You can collect 2 lots of grass in one go.
You can do it 3, 4 even 5 times, depends on how you collect it.
