- Tag along for a behind the scenes visit with renowned interior designer Lorenzo Castillo at his historic home in Madrid. Originally a 17th century monastery, in the 18th century it was transformed by the King’s architect, Ventura Rodríguez, into a majestic palace. However, when Lorenzo found it, over 20 years ago, it was a neglected theater and costume warehouse. After a massive architectural renovation, he was able to reinvent the large building into his home, studio and warehouse - a glorious representation of his many talents.

My favourite rooms were the Garden, green and white room with the black and white floor and the tented room at the entrance to Lorenzo's studio.

2:25 Stunning “mansion” “palace” “home”! Whichever label its designated, it’s so beautiful and sophisticated. And if anyone’s ever tried hanging their art salon style or paid an installer to accomplish this for them. It’s remarkably difficult to achieve what we’re all seeing on his walls there. Props! 👏🏻

Every room is its own world. He is fortunate indeed to have such splendid spaces to spread out and let his style evolve. There is so much going on here, it made perfect sense for Mr. Castillo to narrate the tour. I can imagine Susanna getting lost in this place, and not minding one bit. Although it is a large home he’s been able to create a very relaxed and warm atmosphere within his rooms. This takes talent for decorating in such an eclectic style.

Quirky, but so many exquisite things! I love the dining area that is more like an intimate boutique restaurant. It's so much easier to manage a crowd than when guests are seated at a single large table.
His collection of op art pieces is beautiful, too. It was a big splash in the '60s, but never took off like abstract expressionism did, nor was it created in large numbers. Definitely worth watching more than once.

That has to be the most spectacular residential entrance ever! I can just imagine people coming for a masked ball and going up those stairs. It's "busy" and a lot of it shouldn't work, but it does! I've been noticing a lot of homes that DON'T work in home decor magazines lately, to the point where I'm wondering if decorators are losing their minds - LOL! And, it goes without saying, I need a whole hour of this house tour. Or, maybe I'll just pop over for a visit! Regards and season's greetings from Indiana!
