Your aunt and uncle's experience was not in vain! I, for one, have learned valuable lessons from all of this.
    1. Set the GPS to keep you on highways.
    2. ALWAYS take emergency provisions with you on the road (even what you think are shorter trips).
    3. Have a detailed itinerary (that you share) when traveling and a contact person that you keep updated when you reach every single point on your map.
Thank you so much for updating. Usually, news stories don't give much explanation after the fact. Your aunt and uncle most definitely have saved some lives by showing us things we can do to travel safely from now on. Bless you and your family during this difficult time.

Uncle Ronnies death was preventible & unnecessary. Had he known drinking his urine would have kept him alive for months, BOTH the aunt & uncle would be alive to snuggle and tell their story of survival. I prefer that to what really occurred.
May he rest in peace & condolences to the family💜
The other point that could have prevented this.. simple but critical. PAPER MAP. Come on ppl. Lets ALL wise up and have a paper map when traveling unknown locations. Life saving and the question of drinking urine would not even have to have been broached.
The bottom line here friends: TECH SCREWED THIS SWEET OLD COUPLE & is responsible for Uncle Ronnies untimely & cruel death.

So sorry to hear this heartbreaking story. My husband and I were traveling to Florida, using a AAA Trip-Tik designed map that showed construction areas, rest stops, etc. However, when we cross state the line into Florida, it directed us onto a desolate 2-lane road with humongously tall trees that lined both sides of the road. There were very few house, or people anywhere. We were getting low on gas when we FINALLY drove into an extremely small town with a gas station! 🙏 When we got out of our car, we noticed an interstate hwy not too far in the distance (definitely not visible from the 2-lane road we'd been on)! We told the attendant what interstate we needed to be on, and he immediately pointed to the one we saw when we got out of the car. He said "that's it over there!" He wanted to know how we got on the road we were on, and we told him. He said other people had experienced the same problem! He gave us very simple directions to get to the interstate and we thanked him very much for his help. Our cell phones did not have any service in the area we were directed to! Our story ended on a happy note. We bought current paper maps after that trip, and advised AAA about the screw up they put us into.
I'm so sorry for this family's loss and hope by the nephew being able to tell their story, that many people will remember the importance of packing essential emergency supplies for ANY trip they start. May his uncle rest in peace, and his aunt recover as time goes on. Great advice on the fresh snow for drinking water.

I am so sorry for your loss, your aunt is a very strong woman indeed. My prayers are with you and your family. I live in Nevada and it is a very wide and desolate state. People getting lost on the back roads here due to GPS directions is actually a very common occurrence. Me, my friends and family have all had to escort people traveling in motor homes who have gotten lost in the same way, back to the main highways. There are few safety rules out of state people should follow when traveling through Nevada. Get gas whenever you get to a town, even if you don’t need it. NEVER leave the paved interstate or highway, regardless of what any GPS tells you. Always have food, water, and blankets in the car. NEVER attempt driving through Death Valley. The heat makes it IMPOSSIBLE for rescuers to enter until late night when the temps are cool enough to either fly or drive in to find people And keep a good old fashioned map/atlas of all 50 states in the trunk or glove box just in case. Safe travels everyone.

ML Mallory - Exactly! Not one person has mentioned that if one has less than optimal health to begin with (as this elderly couple obviously did!), one should stick to the main (and maintained) road systems, as they are obviously not physically equipped to begin with to survive a long exposure to the elements outside civilization! That includes not being able to explore off the beaten path. It’s a hard truth that MANY refuse to admit their limitations! One may want to be an “adventurer,” but unless one does the prepatory work (including physical factors), these are the possible tragic outcomes in a worst-case scenario! Notwithstanding all the other myriad factors mentioned by everyone in being prepared … if one can’t fathom being able to physically trek a ten-mile or more distance out of any situation, they’re not “equipped”! I don’t begrudge anyone their desires … just reminding people of ALL the risks they are taking on! Peace and blessings to the family for their tragic loss.

Agree 👍 but...when traveling ALWAYS stay on main roads, if something happens, someone will see you. A lot of people rely on GPS, and many get lost following those directions. Don't think GPS sends people down interstates from what I have been told about it. Personally, I would never rely on it or travel back roads...anything could happen to a person, as this confirms it did. 😢😥

I live in southern Nevada. The desert is a harsh environment and its dangers should not be underestimated. We NEVER travel into the desert in our Jeep without carrying enough water, having a terrain map, a full tank of fuel and a charged mobile phone. We do this even when just going out for a few hours because you never know if you could get stuck in the sand or experience a vehicle break down.
Usually, we go into the desert during cool winter weather and go with our rockhound club as part of a convoy of other vehicles or we stay within sight of a busy paved road. We also pay attention to weather forecasts because you never know if rain high up in the mountains will cause dangerous flash flooding many miles downstream where skies are cloudless. And we also understand that if we get stuck in the desert, we should never ever walk away from our vehicle because a search party can find a vehicle a lot easier than rescuers can find a solitary person lying on the ground. And it is always, always good to let someone know where you are going and when you are expected to return so they can call emergency services if you fail to return on time.

    • @coppertop7827

I too live in southern NV.. The desert and mountains are amazing places. They are also dangerous and desolate. First clue for this elderly couple is when they hit gravel and dirt for a roadway. Anyone driving an RV and towing a vehicle should know not to travel on unknown gravel roads - they had no idea what was ahead of them. At their age they should have had a clearly decided route they would take and also communicate this with their family members. Comments here stating that the state of NV should have marked off highway roads, or installed emergency phones, etc. NV is a very unpopulated state, there's no resources for covering millions of miles of gravel/dirt trails and roads for tourists that can't read a map. It's the same when it rains in the mountains 6 drops, the valleys flash flood in minutes, raging rivers and yet out of state people try to drive through it and end up stranded or losing their life. In Vegas they have lighted sights warning not to drive through moving water across the roadway, and yet, people still do it and end up in trouble. I feel bad the elderly man lost his life and glad the woman survived. Yet, I believe people have to not depend on cities, counties and states to tell them not to drive an RV out into desolate places of danger on a gravel/dirt road. Common sense is not common. Nevada is a beautiful state, full of history, amazing mountains and deserts, come and enjoy them but be responsible for yourself.

I live in WA and we go hiking in several states, we too pack plenty of water, several blankets, MAP (something I don’t think they had), extra food, etc. When you go hiking or traveling it may start out as a beautiful day but the weather can change in moments. The mountains and roads to them, can be very hazardous so we don’t push it….if we think it’s getting bad to worse we turn around. We can always go back.

This happened to another old couple except the old man left his wife in the vehicle and went to find help. I think she was in that van for 60+days, barely alive, when some people arbitrarily happened by because they were off the beaten path due to gps initially. Their family thought that they were deceased because of all the time that had pass. They warn people about taking these desolate off beaten trails especially because these vehicles are not made for the terrain. They found the lady's husband body way off the beaten track and it was especially sad because had he made a left he would have found a tiny town but instead he went right and up a mountain.

So sorry for your loss. It shouldn't have taken them so long to issue a silver alert. About five years ago my parents were pulling a camper through Virginia and they were following their GPS and ended up down in the hollers on a single-lane dirt road and got stuck. Luckily my step dad was able to walk and found an elderly lady home that was able to call someone with a tractor to help. I asked my parents why it didn't occur to them that they might be on the wrong road and they said they thought the GPS was accurate. I think we need to get the word out that they aren't 100% accurate.

I'm so glad Bev made it. My condolences to everyone who knew & loved Ron. I'm glad he was at peace at the end.

It’s truly not an AGE thing. Could have happened to anyone. A couple of bad decisions: GPS settings, and a camper void of supplies. Military background and they carried no water. Unheard of. If just driving a couple hours away or across country always carry extra gallon jugs of water in your vehicle or travel trailer. Perhaps they did not making the best decisions-that’s why we make travel check lists. Those lists are not a joke they are an essential tool for proper preparedness when heading out for an hours hike, a day trip, or trekking into unknown parks or open areas.
So sad that this could have been prevented.
      I’m grateful uncle’s end was peaceful. ☮️ ✝️💟🕉☯️

How heartbreaking. Brought me to tears. What a wonderful, comforting gift to know that absent from the body is present with the Lord. She will see her loving husband again someday. This flesh life is just a testing time and then our soul returns to Father who created it. Sending many prayers of comfort and healing to this family.

So sorry this happened to this couple. People with retired parents should talk with them about this and ask if they would agree to a small GPS tracking device for their vehicles so they could monitor their location, although dead spots in mountainous areas still are troublesome. Perhaps Starlink will have satellite tracking available soon.

@@51andhappy44 If you follow any long-distance hiking channels you will take note of at least 2 devices you can keep on you at all times that always know exactly where you are. But they aren't very cheap and there are monthly fees for keeping it activated. That said, they have an SOS button to get help, a way to send text messages even when your phone won't do it, and you can set it up to allow someone to follow your route.

And after listening to the whole interview I have a few more thoughts...first thankful for the full interview and you the interviewer for letting him just go with the story.
I am amazed at her strength as well. Her
inner fortitude to get to that water proves we are so much greater than the sum of our parts.
Some would say they had no business doing this due to their limitations....I say you go til the wheels off.
Bless Beverly. And bless Ronnie's soul.
He knew he was going and I'm sure that was his greatest heartache. But those
"religious" experience are treasures we don't often get to hear about.
I have no doubt that he is in a better place and probably stayed quite near with Beverly to help her also... spiritually... supernaturally which he couldn't do physically.
Bless you all. And Beverly, you're an amazing woman. And all my respect for Ronnie...he did it til the wheels fell off.
