…Is that a serious question? This incident secured media/public attention precisely because it is (nearly) unprecedented therefore questioning whether all military horses need to be retired after this one bizarre incident is absurd.

If you've ever owned horses you will know they enjoy working.
Not all horses bolt, some are genuinely not fazed by anything and are extremely well behaved.
Horses would be field ornaments if some people had their own way which is not fulfilling for their lives, they will get laminitis grazing all the time, be overweight and be destructive out of boredom so leave them to it, they are a great asset and earn their keep with the amazing work they do.

Last one happened a few years ago in the streets of London. I would know. I was there. We need to separate this argument into two distinct grievances. The police horses are trained and effective in the job and should be kept. The military on the other hand has absolutely no reason other than to maintain tradition. The horses are kept in bad conditions locked in a stall with limited movement throughout the day and their horses aren't trained to the same level as the police.

This is an iscolated incident. It was not the fault of the military. The household cavalry do not take horses into battle they operate tanks. These horses are purely ceremonial. Yes horses are unpredictable but the soldiers who ride them are highly trained and the horses are very well cared for.

Horses have been in service for decades and just one incident of all these many years ought not detract from their effective roles in society.
The mad rush to take horses out of the public use is just an overreaction to the raresr of incidents.
If the public wouldnt _pussyfoot_ around horses, treating them as "fur babies" (the insipid use of such silly childish "pet names") and ignorant attitudes to animals in general, when those who complain couldnt care for the animals better rhemselves, is an anathema to me, and to other sensible people who are well aware of their duties and commitments to animal care in daily life...
Its like saying "take birds out of the skies"
Just because some occasionslly fall to the ground, or defacate on the cars!! Imagine your world _without_ birdsong... Now imagine never seing a horse, with its (his or her) Trooper in his or her regalia in ceremonies across the ciry... Imagine rhe lack of control during protest marches or football matches, rhe fact that if visiting the capital, any tourist from an even busier town, where horses may not be working, a child or adult who never witnesses working horses, only via online sources...
What a dull and sad world it would be. Service horses - the Army, Police horses etc, are well-cared for, well-trained and (almost) always a delight on our senses... One rare incident of spooked horses (which could've been avoided if sensible construction workers had waited until the Troopers had ridden out of earshot) ought not be undone by this one rare event. So many years of our history lay on the backs of horses...
    If we had fewer horses...
How many perverted people would that please?!
What would those who would deny any horses in our capital, actually _do_ with _all_ of the horses they'd intend to replace with motor vehicles?!
Would they be _eaten_ instead?! 🤔🥺😞
