Thank you for watching! My Penny dresses are ones I always reach for in summer, such a comfy dress to wear. I hope you enjoy yours when you sew it up 😊
Love the Summer Dreaming E Book …I’ve made the Ravello as a dress more than once, also as tops, both with and without peplum … have the shirt part of Porto jumpsuit cut out and ready to go and I want to make Sorrento and have the fabric but not the nerve to attempt it yet … also love the Vlog, such a good idea to choose one pattern co.
The patterns in the summer dreaming e-book all look very lovely! I think I’ll definitely give in and get it at some point 😄 So glad you enjoyed the vlog. Happy sewing with your Porto 😊
Thanks Cath, it was really interesting to see your Sew Over It makes and hear about your future plans. The Sorrento Jacket looks great - I’ve also been on the lookout for that “perfect” denim jacket in a different colour to one RTW I already have, and so am now keen to give the Sorrento Jacket a try! 😊
Thanks so much for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I hope you enjoy trying the Sorrento jacket, I’ve seen so many lovely versions, I’m looking forward to giving it a try too 😊
Thanks again for a great vlog … I always struggle choosing patterns and so having you talk through pattern companies catalogues is great for giving me ideas. Always love seeing your makes x
Thanks Rachael! I’ve found that I’ve moved on to different pattern companies too, interesting how ones preference changes isn’t it! I think the Molly pattern will always be one I reach for though. Hope you get to sew it soon too! Thank you for watching! 😊
I broke my arm a few weeks ago on the ice that we rarely have here in Texas. Your twice a week posts have been a bright spot that I have looked forward to as I sit here itching to sew and get back to my learning to knit journey. BTW, I ordered the knitting pattern for the sweater you made and showed us recently. :O)
Sorry to hear you broken your arm, I hope it’s on the mend and you can get back to sewing and knitting soon. I’m so glad you’ve been enjoying my videos. I hope you enjoy the knitted sweater pattern, I’ve really been enjoying knitting mine 😊
I enjoyed the video and you sharing about all the patterns including the ones you aren’t going to make. I have some of those too. I guess it’s part of sewing and finding out works for us. Thank you 😊
I’m so glad to enjoyed the video. I really enjoyed looking back over my SOI patterns, it was interesting to reflect on all of them and like you say figure out what works. Thanks so much for watching 😊
I really like these videos where you talk about a type of fabric or style and tell us what you've sewed. It gives me lots of good info and ideas. I'm going to get the e-book with the Molly top finally--it's on sale right now!!
I’m so glad you found the video interesting, thanks for letting me know. I hadn’t realised the e-books were on sale this weekend, what a happy coincidence! I hope you enjoy sewing the Molly top!
thanks for sharing your SOI makes! i have found that their block fits me relatively well so i have purchased and made quite a few of their patterns. i know that lots of people are disappointed that they no longer do the vintage inspired looks that they started out with but since i prefer more modern styles i am quite happy with the direction that they've moved towards.
Thank you for watching! I like the more modern style they are focusing on now too, although I do love the more vintage style of the Penny dress too. They have a good range don’t they!
I love the DIBY Club leggings. I’ve made two so far, short (above the knee) and long. Super quick to sew, and the instructions on getting the right fit are exemplary. And it’s a free pattern! Who could believe that a pattern that gives you so much could be free!
A really interesting vlog i particularly liked your explanation on the different fabric choices and your explanation for each of your choices, as a new sewist I am still trying to get to gribs with fabric and fabric choices... Thank you
What a perfect timing, I’ve just bought two of their ebooks so now I have all three of them! I’ve only made Edie dress so far but I’m really excited about other patterns as well. Mollie dress in a nice striped ponte roma is next on my list:) plus till Monday all ebooks are 50% off so a great deal! Thanks for the video, it’s always a pleasure to watch your videos 😊
Thank you so much 😊I hadn’t realised my video was timed with the ebook sale, definitely a happy coincidence. I hope you enjoy sewing the Molly dress, I don’t it such a comfy one to wear.
Hi Cath, I have quite a few SOI patterns that I haven’t made up too! I have had a few disasters too, the Marguerite dress and the wrap over dress in the Summer Dreaming e book. But that is sewing, not everything suits us! I am going to try some other patterns from the e book this summer, especially trying to master the shirring on the sundress. I have lots of successes, the shift dress and ultimate trousers in particular. Really enjoyed your vlog, I must revisit my SOI patterns!
Hi Mary, the SOI sundress pattern with the shirring looks really lovely, I hope you enjoy sewing it. Yes definitely it’s really interesting sewing and finding out more about what suits us, such a fun process 😊
Hi Cath. This was a really interesting vlog and I think a good idea to do more. I started sewing about 3.5 years ago by going to a SOI weekend class. Ee made a cushion, make-up bag and pyjama shorts and it gave me a great start. I tried the Molly top but it came up a bit big on me so it's nightwear now. My go to pattern is their Pussy Bow Blouse. I made that in another class and didn't really expect it to suit me as I am not one for ruffles and frills but I found it really wearable and great for work. I am planning to make their Ultimate 👖 in a month or so and then hopefully the Sorrento from the offcuts.
Hi Eileen, I’m so glad you enjoyed this video and would be interested in watching more of this type. I have admired quite a few Pussybow blouses, I would have definitely tried that one I’d I had sewed while I was still working in an office, it looks perfect for pretty snd smart workwear. I hope you enjoy sewing the ultimate jeans 😊
I just actually made the Virginia leggings on Friday and it was so easy. I’m very much a beginner and never made any sort of long pants and I didn’t have any trouble at all! That pattern is really good and has so many versions
Well I really enjoyed this as usual however, it made me think about my sewoverit patterns! I have around 20 and, admittedly, a few of those were as a result of my membership of the lower tier of stitch school. In terms of makes, I’ve made one! ONE! Quite shocking really. Made the Carrie trousers and like them, I’m not sure why I’m not reaching for them. Was very interested to hear your comments on style and how yours has changed. I have been focussed on comfy wear I know but I have sewn a couple of lovely wrap dresses from Friday pattern so why dont I reach for the SOI patterns. Maybe one of the reasons is that I find the necks of some of the garments too low, revealing and I can’t be bothered to change them. Anyway you’ve left me deep in thought and I’m going to have a review and see if I can motivate myself to make some of them.. really enjoyed seeing yours
Thank you very much. I usually baste the neckband on with a long straight stitch first to check how it sits. Then once I’m happy that it’s lying flat (I sometimes shorten if it’s not) I’ll sew using a small zig-zag on my sewing machine (I prefer it to my overlocker for inserting neckbands).
Yes, please, I love these videos about patterns from specific designers! I have the Doris dress too, and some tencel twill earmarked for making it from, but I will want to make a toile first as the tencel is too precious to take a chance with. Shame you decided not to make it, as I trust your judgement on patterns and instructions. The only SOI pattern I have made so far was an Audrey top, and it wasn't my finest hour - the neckline gaped, and I probably ought to take it off and try again, but I got disheartened and set it aside. One day... 🤞
@@EileenR11thank you, that's so kind of you - I did actually see that video very recently and she did the exact same thing I thought of doing, so I will give that a go 👍😊
Thanks Mara, that’s great to know you enjoyed this video. I really enjoyed reviewing my SOI makes, I’ll get thinking about other pattern companies. A Doris dress in tencel twill sounds like it will be lovely & swishy. I hope your toile goes well 😊
Lovely makes Cath…I really liked the green faux wrap dress on you…..but pity you didn’t like it! Your makes are all so professional… I am just in process of making the penny dress but unlike you I had to shorten the bodice….this is what I’m away to finish now! 😊
I have really enjoyed this and the content. Could I ask for any tips on how to sew the invisible zip into the tulip skirt. I am at the moment making the SOI Ava skirt. On one of Lisa's video she make a pink corduroy version and does the zip like in the tulip skirt right up to the top of the waistband. However you can't really see how she does it very well, and I would much prefer to see the pattern instructions. Would it be worth me purchasing the Tulip skirt pattern - even though I wouldn't make it - just for the instructions on how to do the zip? Thank you :)
Thanks so much for watching, I’m so glad you enjoyed this type of video. I should think you might be able to find a nice clear tutorial on RUclips to save you having to purchase the Tulip skirt pattern if you won’t use it. I had a search on RUclips just now for ‘insert invisible zip pencil skirt’ and a couple of videos popped up that looked like they might be good.
Yes I like this type of video. It helps to know the company and its style. I also appreciate your commentary. Thank you!!
Thanks for letting me know you like this type of video, that’s really good to know. Thank you for watching! 😊
I've had the Penny dress for ages and really need to make it up. I feel pretty sure that I'll love it. Thanks for a fun, honest video!
