      they did the same thing with the fusion sport. fusion sport will do 0-60 somewhere between 4.9 and 5.3 seconds, which is almost as fast as the V6 stinger, yet they kept saying that they "didn't mind the speed" and that it was "dad fast." thats faster than any affordable midsize sedan on sale, when it came out in 2017 or now. similarly, the mazda competes most closely with things like the wrx, gli, gti, and the civic si kind of?? and its not significantly slower than any of those and has a more premium feel than any of them

    As someone who sells Mazdas for a living, I am so happy to have these on our lot simply because of the number of times someone hasn't bought a car because I had to answer the "Is there a turbo version" question with a "no". Based on my experience, when Mazda says they aren't going after the GTI and such I actually believe them simply by virtue of the customer base typically interested in the 3. The type of person I see normally buying the 3 isn't about the sportiness but knows just enough about torque and power and awd vs fwd to want the performance the turbo has. And to top it off, the customer base of the 3 really is the people who *want* the BMW or Audi (we've stolen soooooo many sales from the Audi dealer literally across the street from us) but aren't into forking over the cash for one.

    • @Beastykato
      @Beastykato 3 года назад +44

      I agree with this. I’ve got cash, but I’m frugal. I want the luxury but I want bang for buck. I’d love to have a little more playfulness in it though. It doesn’t have to be a race car, but a manual would be nice or at least a better automatic with less quirks.

      At first I thought Mazda's strategy was a little weird, but it does make sense. The eco-car category restricts you to certain types drivetrains and chassis designs (most people just buy civics and corollas anyway). Moving a step up will appeal to those that want something nicer than a Civic or Corolla, but don't want to pay the entry level luxury price up front and overtime in repair costs.

      I might be the minority then buy when I had a NA 2017 Mazda 6 I was really excited about the turbo. I test drove a 2018 GT with the turbo and was so disappointed. Despite the increase in power and especially torque I noticed almost no difference when accelerating in traffic. The only time I did notice a difference was when I brake boosted it and launched it. I drive manual mode 99% of the time so just stuck with my car. I have a bmw now and would never go back to Mazda until they have quicker offerings. But I still think Mazda is the best looker in its class

      @doctorferdinand1003 3 года назад +5

      @Zfb Tln Which is exactly what people in the comments are attempting to do? Car markets aren't monolithic, just because 95% of all cars are sold with an automatic doesn't disprove the existence of a market for manual hot hatches. This is akin to saying "It doesn't make sense for VW to offer a manual for the GTI because most people just buy CRVs and RAV4s in automatics."

    • @mikem2253
      @mikem2253 3 года назад +3

    • @doctorferdinand1003
      @doctorferdinand1003 3 года назад +6

      @Zfb Tln I'm not trying to be rude, but you aren't providing new information despite writing that much. Everybody understands that manuals aren't high volume sellers and in many market segments aren't worth developing. Nobody asks for a manual CRV. The point is that Mazda said they might offer a manual if there is demand. People are commenting to demonstrate their demand. Similarly, I use the example of the GTI because the Golf and Mazda 3 occupy a nearly identical segment of the market and VW demonstrates that you can make money selling a manual in this segment.

The one thing that always tends to bug me is the flak the rotary knob for the infotainment system gets. It IS weird at first but you WILL get used to it and it IS the easiest, most intuitive infotainment interface I've ever used in a vehicle. Thank you for not just canning it in this review.

I complained in my surveys to Mazda and to the dealer that it wasn't an option when I purchased because besides the motor, the rest of the car is great! I even explained I would trade in my current lease and get a 3 Turbo **MANUAL** as soon as it became available. I was very disappointed to find out they were only going to offer the turbo in auto. Please bring a manual option to the Turbo especially with AWD. Here in Wisconsin I'd love to have the fun of that turbo motor in the summer and the security of the AWD during the winter. If they don't pair the manual with the turbo, I am more than likely switching to a GTI, Veloster N, or something of the sort at the end of lease term.

    Love your channel - but seems like you didn't do your do your homework before this review. - First the title: How about stating what it is vs. what it isn't. Second the competition: How about comparing it to other AWD hatches vs. FWD hot hatches. If you want a 4 door AWD hatch that has good power, very good handling, very good reliability and offers a premium interior over a Subaru there are not a lot of options. Third the engine: My guess is this engine would not be enjoyable with a manual transmission given the low redline and again should be reviewed for what it is vs. what it isn't. Moreover the turbo provides consistent power for those drivers who live in higher elevations which may be one of the key benefits of pairing the turbo and the AWD. (you didn't mention this key benefit as you were more obsessed with the nostalgia of a MazdaSpeed 3) Again I love your channel, but this review seemed a little sloppy, and not as thoughtful as your usual standard of work
