  • Replacing spark plugs is a maintenance item which most riders can handle themselves. However, there are some details like "reading" the electrode deposits, gapping the new plugs, tightening the plug correctly, and avoiding counterfeit plugs which are important to know. In this video I'll go through the whole process for newbies and try to offer some new information for experienced mechanics too.

Nice video John, looks like the coils could have deteriorated due to heat. May I ask how many miles your RT has done? I think the PCB mounted components at the end of the coil may be for radio frequency noise suppression but like you not sure. As a relatively new RT owner (2006 model with 31k miles) I find your videos very useful.

The noise suppression idea has merit, maybe that's what it is. My RT currently has around 30K miles, but as far as heat damage I think that's related to how a bike is ridden. Short hops and trips are probably not as damaging as riding 8 hours a day for a couple weeks on end.
