    For the stars...
    I use a dremel on mine, I use the flex shaft attachment and it makes things a bit easier.
    1. Find a stencil on Amazon for like $10 (you can make your own if you have a Cricut machine)
    2. I spray a light coat of white paint, just enough to make it trace onto the board
    3. Start my outline with the tool. My recommendation on this.. don’t do each star individually. Find yourself a good angle on the board and do all those edges first. Rotate the flag and do the other edges of the stars. That will keep you most consistent.
    4. Start carving out the rest of the stars. Now just as with the edging on step 3. Do the same carving here. Depending on your angle carve out a few triangles and then rotate to cut the rest of the triangles in the star
    5. Switch the tip to a grinding stone. It’s shaped like a bullet. Do all the stars which acts like a sander but it will also allow you to correct your lines/edges on all the stars. It looks great, trust me!!
    Then finish it off with whatever clear coat you want.
    To each their own. You can take the easy way and just spray the stars on but to me it just takes away from what it could really look like...Beautiful! WARNING ⚠️. I can say that it is about 1 min per star overall and with continuous use of the dremel tool. Your arm will feel numb for the next day or so. Take breaks if you have too.
    On another note, I do have a blower attachment that goest on the fleet shaft. That goes on first and then your bit. It will blow out all your dust away. it’s optional
    GOOD LUCK!!

    • @PoposWoodworks
      @PoposWoodworks  6 лет назад

      Chris Manor yes, I put a heavy coat of poly on it and let it dry. Then I sanded the area where you will place the vinyl with 220 grit sand paper. Then I placed the vinyl stencil on. The smooth poly will help the vinyl stick a lot better.

    What is the layout size for the stars without the design in the middle? Do you have a file for the cameo available?

    • @PoposWoodworks
      @PoposWoodworks  6 лет назад

      Jim Blaskewicz I don’t have a file, I just drew the stars out myself. The stars for that size flag should be 1.1 inch. If you have a cameo just trace a star out and size it to 1.1 inch then duplicate as many as you need. I placed them where I thought they looked right, then went from top to bottom and centered each row. Then went from side to side on each row and used the middle adjust to line them up that way. Hope this helps!

    I am starting to make these myself, aside from what's in the video what other advise would you have for a beginner? A major problem I am having is getting all my boards to rip straight, I end up with gaps and end up throwing away half my wood.
    I'm also in VA! NOVA area.

    • @PoposWoodworks
      @PoposWoodworks  6 лет назад +1

      Surviving703 I rip mine out of a 2x4. Before I rip them I run them through my planer and plane about 1/8 inch off both sides, (wide side). Then What I do is I set the table saw up to shave just a hair off of one end. Then I use that flat side against the fence so every cut after will be smooth and straight. (A keeper) lol.The wide side of the 2x4 is the side that butts up against each other on the flag. That insures that the thickness will be the same to help on your gap issues.....hope this helps!

    • @PoposWoodworks
      @PoposWoodworks  6 лет назад

      Surviving703 also, if the 2x4 is warped it will mess the flag up unless you have a jointer which I don’t. So, it’s a pain in the a** but I pick through the stack until I find the straightest boards.

      @PoposWoodworks  6 лет назад +2

      El Chapo Guzman Pudo! If the 2x4’s are in good shape, it will take (2) 8ft 2x4’s. It takes 20 strips total, 13 for the flag, 4 for the Frame, and 4 for the back supports. That’s getting 5 strips per 2x4 when ripped on the table saw.

      Terry Bartley yes that’s right. The first coat of poly helps the stencil/decal stick better. Also keep the decal from pulling small pieces of wood up when you remove it. Once the stars are painted on, I apply 3 to 4 more coats of poly.
