Thanks for another fun video! I spent last Saturday rearranging my outside orchids and actually moved a number of cymbidium orchids into smaller pots. These were pass along plants from a friend who was moving last year.
Hi Matthew, thanks for the video how to repotted the Cymbidium, I had one for 13 years didn’t know what to do until I saw this video thanks again, mookie
It's middle of winter here, Still waiting on one to open. I have to repot my 2 in spring but good to know I can leave it till summer if I don't get round to it although I don't think the pot will last till then. Never had an orchid split my pot before but my cymbs to like to grow chunky roots.
Hi Mathew😄🙌I enjoyed watching🥰I've had so much bad luck with Cymbidiums☹️How moist do they like? And our temperatures get to 35℃ in summer. I think my Cymbidiums got over heated and that killed them. Maybe in a shaded area under trees is better?
It gets that hot here too - in fact last week was a scorcher. Cymbidiums like dappled shade so under a tree is perfect - but not deep shade! Depending on how you've potted them in summer I water every 2-3 days. Good luck!
I bought a pack of Rhiz. Fungi following your advice, thank you. I was watching your house Reno last year but it stopped so did you say there’s more videos filmed recently? Where, please?
Hi Matthew, great repotting video! They look very healthy and happy in their new pots. You mentioned you are growing c.trchyatum ( the Australian native) , has it bloomed for you and is it fragrant?
Well I aim to please..... assuming you're not being sarcastic. Anyway, seems like there's a Grand Designs ep to look out for in the future with a bloke called Mat/Matt/Mathew/Matty. First of the 2024 Victorian Orchid Societies shows has been announced-Vermont. Treasure awaits!
Hello Matthew! I recently found your videos and I really enjoy them! I have a question for you, if you could answer I would be so grateful! I bought a cymbidium which I keep outside and I noticed that ants are climbing on the flower spike. Is that a normal thing? It's my first cymbidium and your videos gave me the confidence to care for it properly! Hopefully it isn't difficult to deal with!! Thank you!
Thanks for finding me! Ants are completely normal - they're either feeding on the sweet sticky emission from the buds or on an insect so either way it's not a problem and you'll probably find when the flowers open the ants won't be interested anymore! It's likely some complex protective evolutionary solution to use the ants to protect the buds whilst they're forming?!

Hi Matthew. I just overwatered (root rot presented quickly) 2 cymbidiums to death recently despite only giving them drinks when the orchid mix was very dry. Would I have more chance of growing them with drilling side holes?
Hmmm not sure! Depends where you are and the relative temps, the potting mix and type of pot! Mine are in regular terracotta pots with one drainage hole and no saucer. If it's winter - keep them very much on the drier side especially if it's cold. Cymbidiums aren't particularly prone to root rot so if they were new plants they could have been already been affected?
@@helloplantlovers Thanks Matthew, I'd just repotted these young Bunnings orchids into orchid mix from a thick peat one. I used a tiny bit of ??mycorhyrizomal & fertilizer when repotting. One of these days I'm hoping to get a cymbidium to survive over 3 months.🤞
Love your thanks to the previous book owner. I often think of the peeps that have previously loved my books.
Me too! Thanks for watching!

I am very lucky - I'm actually taking a friend to the market this weekend so let's see!

Oh thanks for watching those! The project is being filmed by a TV show - if it ever makes it to air I'll post a link!

Thanks for watching! The one I have is Cymbidium canaliculatum and I made a video about it here: ruclips.net/video/bQ48xALTUl0/видео.html
Great books finds, but the burning question is (drum roll 🥁 ) will you finish that packet of m.fungi before moving to the new home?
That's hilarious!!
