  • In the Dominican Republic, the Joint Program “Communities of care” has been instrumental to implement comprehensive solutions to care needs, promote women’s economic autonomy and the right to care for children, people with disabilities in dependency situations and elderly people. Key achievements include:
The government has today the tools and the institutional structure and capacity to develop, shape and scale up the National Care Policy, thanks to the technical support and advice provided.
The number of eligible households in the registry of demand for care services has increased. As a result, more households will have access to care services according to their needs and demands.
Awareness of the importance of the National Care Policy and national care services has increased, and the centrality of this policy is now well positioned among public institutions, the private sector and development partners.
The Joint Program has marked a milestone in the Dominican Republic by strengthening institutional capacities, promoting a social dialogue around the importance of care, improving information systems, and building capacities across institutions and service providers.
