Saying ‘not all cultures are equal’ is technically true, as a ‘culture’ is a way of life and some cultures have better moral beliefs/practices than others. That said all cultures have positives and negatives; so I don’t think ranking cultures is helpful. Rather than getting into ‘Our culture is better than your culture’ debates (which are pointless because no culture is so good that it has the right to be smug) it’s better to focus on how different cultures are good and bad in different ways.

Completely agree with you and it's annoying that the quote posed to the people in this video removes the context of what she said. She mentioned aspects of certain cultures like child marriage and women not having equal rights to men. She did not try and label cultures as good or bad but suggested some cultures have problematic views when looking at them from our British perspective. I think it's dangerous for channels like this to highlight only the controversial sounding sentences as it doesn't allow room for people to discuss valid points. We should be able to analyse and sometimes criticise other cultures as long we remain respectful of the individuals from that culture (and remain open to discussion and critcism around our own cultural practices too).

Regardless of claims made by the perpetrators as to why they do these things, it is something quite different from culture. I don't think you are being disingenuine by using the example of moving from fossil fuels to sustainable energy sources, but I think the term culture is used a little to loosely in such cases and as @nileniale said, badenoch was quite clearly implying something else which was intended to be either a dog whistle, divisive rhetoric or just plain racist depending on the audience

They'll blame all the economic failures and lack of meaningful change on "the Left" and, by virtue of not being remotely Left wing by default, they can pretend to offer actual change despite sharing practically the same economic policies.
This was why many of us on the Left warned against Starmer's lurch to the Centre-Right: it will lend a more extreme Right wing party "credibility" and a path to electoral victory. Certainly remarkably stubborn and dense, but not a remarkable leader. Man or woman, black or green, we have to have our standards, and the person has to be the right one. What you have mentioned are not examples of culture and are not representative of vast numbers of people that live in those countries. Capital punishment and violent repression are tools of the state and reflect systems of power, not culture. To refer to one counter-example, were you paying attention during the Mahsa Amini protests on Iran. People in other countries risk their lives and their freedom to stand up for their rights. What would you do?
