“Do we have time to run Wasp?” Those words still give me chills every time. For a 24 year old in the biggest game of his life to call his own shot is so crazy to me. Most guys would just try to run a play to pick up the first down, but Patrick wanted to rip the defenses throat out. That’s what makes him so special and unique.
He was so ready to show them that they weren’t going to break his spirit. That and it must’ve been fun for him to go back and watch the reactions of the 49ers because I still enjoy it. Kittle straight up just asks ‘what happened’ 😂 it totally broke their spirits and fired the whole team up. Brilliant. It’s kinda wild that the 49ers didn’t learn from this because they let it happen again in SB 58. Patrick Mahomes is inevitable
Been a Chiefs fan for 50 years went to the first Super Bowl parade and watched old Lenny beat the Vikings on TV. Went through a lot of bad lean years but this latest run is special and Patrick Mahomes is a once in a lifetime QB. He’s the best quarterback I’ve ever seen play and I’ve seen a lot of quarterbacks play in the 60s 70s 80s 90s 2000s. Everybody make sure you’re enjoying every minute of this ride and go Chiefs.😊
Been in the playoffs every year he's started and the only postseason games he's played on the road have been Super Bowls. He's had one and a half bad postseason games. His *worst* season is 12 wins, 4,839 yards, 37 tds to 13 picks, a #2 seed, and AFC title game appearance. When down by 10 or more, he wins 58% of the time; nobody else is better than 38%. First qb since 1999 to win the league MVP and the Super Bowl in the same year. First qb to lead the league in passing and win the Super Bowl. First NFL player, period, to have two league MVPs and two championships in his first five years. Patrick Mahomes is that dude, there's no debate.
I grew up watching the Chiefs led by Lenny the Cool. I watched them win SB IV. My Christmas was ruined after they lost to Miami in the NFL's longest game ever. Then ... came 5 decades of mediocre to rotten teams ... or just good enough to make it to the playoffs to get our hearts ripped out. 50 years I remained a loyal KC Chiefs fan. Watching every game of a 2-14 season. Hoping we would one day get our QB. That we would get our Elway. Or Montana. Or Brady. Manning. The 2017 draft, with the 10th pick we got him. I had no idea who he was. Who was this kid we gave up those picks for, and why was he worth moving up to get? The Chiefs had never successfully drafted a QB in their HISTORY. So what is it about THIS kid? And then, week 17 at Denver. Mahomes gets his first start. And ... I knew. Funny thing about that game even some Chiefs fans forget. Mahomes got us the lead, Reid pulls him and puts in ... hell, I don't even remember the guys name ... who promptly turned the ball over a couple of times and lost the lead for us. Reid hands the ball back to Mahomes and, (I assume) told him, "Go get us a win." And Mahomes did. Like he had been doing it for multiple seasons in the NFL. That's when I knew. Now, I try not to get to complacent about the absolute miracles we see as Chiefs fans week in, and week out. Because I remember what it was like for 5 decades in the wilderness. This was an absolutely fantastic video on the Mahomes metamorphosis from "backyard ball" phenom, to stone cold NFL great.
Couldn't have said it better. I've been watching since '89. A lifetime of 'almost' being our ceiling...I got my Chiefs tattoo in 2012, a 2-14 season. I still have to pinch myself sometimes...it's so surreal how great he is....there has never been anyone like him...and it's not close IMO.
His last Super Bowl run was brilliant. Got that young team to believe. Energy is infectious. If 15 never throws another pass in the league he still be goated. 🐐
They said his skill set wouldn’t translate over to the NFL. It’s exciting watching him on the field. He’s the best young QB in the NFL. Sitting for a year behind Alex Smith really helped his game take a giant step forward. This documentary is incredibly well done. Go Chiefs!!! ☝️🔥🔥🔥🏈💪 He genuinely loves the game of football 🏈. Go PM15!!!! That Mayor should have kept his mouth shut.
He's the Chief's QB. He's got the confidence of a leader who knows what he's doing. That's why he's the MVP. He takes time to study his teammates and the game. He knows what he is doing. 🌙👌🤴
So true. The game that showed me he was that guy was the Denver game in 2018. He went through a lot of adversity and struggled majority of the game. But he kept coming, he would give up, he kept fighting, and eventually the Chiefs prevailed.
That TD run vs Houston is the point at which I felt, okay we just can't count Mahomes out. Stil had faith in the second SB, he tried so hard to win that. #MVPat
The best investment the chiefs organization has ever done. Andy Reid saw something in mahomes and veach said 'let's get him". This is what champions are made of. The total disrespect mahomes and the chiefs got after the tyreek hill trade was insane, but they showed them. Congratulations to my CHIEFS. See you in September. Keep on striving. ❤
Right they showed these clowns what the meaning of TEAM really is. Using those 5 picks to revamp the Chiefs defense was brillant. Adding MVS, McKinnon, Pacheco, JuJu, Sky Moore, and of course Kelce was outstanding. Otherwise I agree, the Chiefs took a blood risk on Mahomes and it’s paid off. This is also why you don’t listen to commentators. They are wrong majority of the time.
I truly think that if he’d just been stuck with one of these defensive coaches instead of Andy Reid it would’ve been a tragic story but Reid is so good at molding someone into his offense while still allowing them to be themselves. He obviously had to help him make better decisions about when to throw it and when to be patient. I think Andy Reid not only realized how special he was as a player but he also saw that he and Pat are on the same page when it comes to playing smart and saving the best for last and dissecting teams so they can capitalize on their weaknesses. They’re the best in the game at that stuff. I swear they just ‘play dead’ some games just so they can tire the other team out and explode with the plays exploiting their weaknesses just in time to get ahead and prevent the other team from being able to come back. Grim reapers of football
It's not everyday the backup QB saves a playoff game much less twice in 3 years. Especially when the strength of the team is the offense. Chad Henne should be remembered along side Mike Livingston as the backups that saved the SB season. Without that TD against the Jags the Chiefs would've headed to overtime assuming they didn't lose in regulation by a late field goal and without Mike they don't make the playoffs in 69. Lenny and Pat are the Hall of Famers but those dudes live forever in Chiefs Kingdom for answering the bell when needed most!
The PMU has supplanted the MCU [and the previous Star Wars and Rocky universes] in the American zeitgeist of heroic storytelling Each season has been a chapter in heroic storytelling. The cocky upstart, the balance of humility and confidence, the gaudy stats, the comebacks, the injuries, the time crunch, the leviathans that fall before him, the alliances built specifically to topple him, . . . just as a campfire tale it rocks, but to experience it live and in real time is amazing.
Love this guy. Both confident and humble with just the right amount of cockiness at appropriate times. Never gets ahead of himself, amazing leader and the best talent we've ever seen at QB.
Always love watching Mahomes play had the privilege to see him play in high school & would tell people this kid will be special and many said nah wait till he moves up and plays tougher opponents.
