A small DLC mission where you get to see Duncan and his early life might be an interesting idea but how would you market it? Hey assassin's creed fans, have you ever wanted to play as a complete dumb ass? Come and check out the early life of a man with a little to no principals who eventually got his ass killed by a half drowned pirate!

5:45 I AM NOT DEFENDING DUNCAN! I am only trying to educate you on the subject of flintlocks. The other flintlock on Duncan wouldn't had worked either as the problem was that the gunpowder in both of them was wet, and therefor couldn't ignite properly (the first flintlock wasn't broken at all). He was later able to shoot him because the gunpowder would've been able to dry itself just enough to catch a spark and ignite, and Duncan tried his luck. Also, because you said that Duncan missed, I remind you that flintlocks, because of their tehnology, or rather the lack of it (messy "cartridges" and smooth bore barrels) are VERY inaccurate (in the game, we're so good at shooting with them just because game mechanics and all that to make it more enjoyable and epic). I’d argue Duncan gets unnecessary hate. Yes he gets absolutely bodied, but if you take Edward out of the equation you potentially have one of the most influential assassins in all of the series. Imagine if Duncan had successfully defected, and given the Templars both the observatory and the sage. Leading the templars to completely destroy the assassins in the West Indies, and potentially even farther afield. And the only reason that he doesn’t succeed in this is because he meets Edward fucking Kenway. Who is ACTUALLY one of the most influential assassins in all of history. Almost single-handedly wiping out the Templars in the West Indies and the Americas. You can almost argue that Kenway killing Duncan was the most historically significant assassination in the entire series. I don’t fault Micheal Jordan for getting swept by Larry Bird, and I don’t fault Duncan for falling to the man who would become one of the most powerful and influential assassins ever. It honestly has nothing to do with training. (It’s also kinda obvious to me that you’re going to body him when he’s the first enemy you fight in the whole game). He also only fights you because he’s cornered, and AFTER trying very hard to run away. (Compare him running to Charles Vaine later in the game and I think the difference between an assassin and a non-assassin is obvious) Duncan’s death has always more highlighted Edward’s prowess than Duncan’s “lack of” for me.
Edit: If that’s not enough, consider the fact that if Duncan had killed Edward, then NONE of the Kenways would have been born. The second most influential family in the entire Assassin Templar conflict, gone. No Haytham, No Connor. Just imagine what that would have done to the world… And his [Duncan’s] second pistol likely only worked because he had given it time to dry out before shooting it. I think it speaks to his intelligence that after attempting to shoot Edward, after he realized he was a threat, and the pistol was non-functioning he tried to escape. I think that’s the smartest next move. And considering that they both barely survived that shipwreck, I think he was rather calm and decisive where most might not be. That also speaks to his assassin training.

I think Captain Chevalier de la Vérendrye from Rogue is up there as well. He got stomped by Shay, who’d only been in the assassins for a little while, if I remember right. Yet the Captain was a veteran of the seven years war and had decades more experience than Shay. He left his ship, (a man o war,) where it could be easily taken out and it couldn’t save itself, whereas a much smaller and barely outfitted ship did. Plus he was arrogant as all hell and remained as such to Shay, even after having his ass handed to him. And like the other assassins, refused to consider that their mentor’s repeatedly sending them off to retrieve the precursor artefacts was leading to potentially millions of innocents dying. Plus he shot Shay in the back like a coward, when none of the other blind to the truth assassins did so.

Having a heartfelt storyline, nice look at the assasin/templar fight from a bystander perspective, with each side being somewhat sympathetic, great characters, one of the best ship mechanics (after some pirate game I forgot the name of) and bosses, boat hunting and actually good bell diving missions (I love them)... But also giving the ungodly terrible island collectibles, tailing missions (which, suprise, dont really affect me as much as these fucking small islands required to be searched individually), next to nothing in a dlc section, the worst master assasin and combat being less preferable, than qte to kill a man or make his future offsprings go through an earthquake for 3 seconds before killing a man

After finishing the game I got an idea that I wished happened in the game. First, when both him and Edward manage to get to the shore, show him extracting a large piece of wood that was piercing his stomach. This would be the reason for him being easily defeated, because he was too wounded to fight. When the governor assists to when they are declaring the sentence of Edward, Duncan would appear, citing that he could not be easily killed by a mere pirate, that he lied unconscious for a couple hors, then he woke up, stole a fisherman ship and got to the governor where he explained all that happened, being that the reason they discovered Edward wasn't Duncan. After Edward escapes and goes after the governor and the other templars, we would fight Duncan, having a way more difficult and epic fight now that he is in perfect conditions, that ultimately Edward would win once again, and we would get the classic talk on the white space where Duncan gives all his reasons for betraying the brotherhood, and Edward reflects that this could have been his own path if he didn't got forced to grow and change as a person.

It is mentioned throughout the whole game how talented Edward is, not only his physical skills, but also his 6th sense (the ISU sense/Eagle Vision) is insanely strong since he ''had it since he was a lad''. Additionally Edwardd seems to be really intelligent.
Furthermore, the whole Kenway lineage seems to be insanely talented. Edward, Haytham and Connor all seem to have insane talent in combat and other physical traits, problem solving and ambition.

I need to say this because a lot of people forget this… from Edward killing Duncan, to the end of the game was 6-7 years. The first time you make it to Nassau, Ed Thatch (Blackbeard) already knows of you (from your past privateering days) and respects you as a combatant. There was no training time other then experience in those seven years. All the stat upgrades from gear and whatnot were gameplay features. Edward killing Duncan says more about Edward’s skill at combat than Duncan’s supposed lack of skill. It was mainly poor writing and decision-making. Honestly in the remake, they should have had them fight on the beach and then left Edward to explore… give him the good old “Make your way off the island” objective. It wouldn't change the story and it would be better for the lore.
