I'm a fairly new content creator/micro influencer and I just want to thank you for doing what you do! The information you provide in your videos are priceless! I'm currently working on my first big negotiation and I'm literally using your videos as a blueprint. Thank you!!
I was told by a brand who wanted, 3 months of exclusivity, 3-year image buy-out, and paid ads usage rights that other creators have done the same for $800. I feel so frustrated, especially as a black content creator. Thank you for your videos.
Goodness! That is wildly low for all of that and I completely empathize with your frustration. And thank you for bringing up an important point here about discrepancies in pay among different races - I can only speak from my own experience (I'm white), but it's unfortunately true that BIPOC creators in general are offered less and are undervalued compared to their white counterparts, which is just absurd in 2022. Glad to hear you stood your ground and I know there are brands out there that will fully appreciate you and pay you accordingly. 💖
I finally have a paid brand Collaboration and I literally go back to this video coz it reminds me that I watched this before and have to know how much to charge and what to say this is every helpful Austen thank you! I will definitely apply what I’ve learned from you. Your so knowledgeable and amazing!
@@AustenTosone thank you Austen I have a question this company wants 4-6 images that they wanna use for their marketing campaign from me and 15-30 second reel and an 1 image post in Instagram I have 1,280 followers. It’s means they want the usage rights right? You think it’s ok to ask for $800 for the deliverables they are asking or that’s too small? Thank you I’m watching more of the videos that you recommend so I can finally decide on how much to ask! Thank you for all your help!
this video was so helpful Austen! In my experience as a full time creator, the brands that typically pay you the best are the easiest to work with! Better organization and they don’t add on a ton of extra deliverables hidden in the contract 😅
Austen-Thank you for all of your content. I am binge watching your videos as I prepare for my first brand sponsorships. I am a micro influencer in resilience & disasters-not at all related to beauty or fashion-but am finding your videos a great intro. Thanks so much!
WOW! What an amazing video! As a very Micro 😅 content creator you have shared so much useful information in order to deal with campaigns/collabs. Thank youu! Looking fwrd to watching all your other videos as well.
another great video Austen, thank you! I'm an Italian RUclipsr and content creator, I get a lot of collaboration requests lately and I have the constant impression that my rates are too low, so I just subscribed to FYPM. Thank you for the tip! 😍👍
Great video Austen so thanks for sharing it. We're running into an offer that no one has talked about yet and that is a brand sponsor we have is now wanting to put our YT video up on their product listing with Amazon because it's a guide on how to install the product. It would be indefinite rights to the video as long as they are selling the product. The good part is they're not providing a number but asking us what the permission/rights cost would be. I seem to always find ways to get something no else talks about so finding guidance to confirm random deal calculators is difficult. 🙂
Thanks for sharing your scenario with me! I’d charge similar to usage rights and also add a time cap for a year or two max. It’s nearly impossible to price perpetual usage so I try to avoid it at all costs.
No problem! I have a video about designing a media kit but I don’t recommend sharing rate cards with brands! I always try to get them to share their budgets first and then I’ll only share a rate for the deliverables they’re requesting. Hope that helps!
Could you please do a video on gifting and PR as a micro content creator e.g min followers needed, red flags, ig insights and how to transition into paid collaborations
It’s a good question! I talk about this more in my recent Q&A video but usually managers assist with inbound brand deals not necessarily pitching you so I always recommend waiting to consider management until you feel you need help managing the brand partnerships that are coming into your inbox. Here’s that Q&A for reference! ruclips.net/video/Nmhp6jC59u4/видео.html
Every brand is different in terms of how you share content before you post (via email, Google Drive, software like CreatorIQ, etc.) but I have always shared content with the brand for review prior to posting for a paid partnership. Hope that helps!
How can I start getting campaign deals vs discount codes only? I have several sponsorships in my niche where I get 10-15% of commission with a discount code and free/discounted products to make content of. For some they’ve required 4 pieces of content within a week after receiving a free/discounted product. How would I get paid for this instead?
It is very uncommon to get paid upfront! Most brands pay net-30 or net-60 after receiving an invoice. If you're lucky you may be able to negotiate 50% up front but it's very rare. I talk more about invoicing and payments in this video here: ruclips.net/video/G6bhULA2A7A/видео.html
Ooh this is a great question! I actually love brand calls because you get to know them and their goals better. I find 15 minutes is plenty of time to chat though so maybe you can get them to bring it down so it's less time for you. Also in my experience small brands tend to need more convincing than bigger brands since they have smaller budgets and are probably more careful with every dollar they spend so if a 15 minute call is all it takes to convince them to hire you I'd say go for it.
Great video - just had huge brand reach out to me, I am JeffTheEntreprenuer most got paid was 1,300 and youtube $400 and now its 10x. and will do more on Brand and Influencer as going all in in 2023 to be Omnipresent if I have to go to it.
What advice would you have for the *video editors* of larger RUclips channels? 🥲 I never took sponsorships into account and am already undercharging. 😩 thank you sm!
Interesting question! Unless you have a deal worked out with the creator where you get a certain % of their sponsorships, I'm not sure how that would work. I would focus on raising your rates overall and sending your clients and email saying "starting on X date my new rate will be Y" if you feel like you're undercharging.
@Austen Tosone Ah thank you so much for the feedback. Gosh, I never considered sponsorships but learned very quickly how time consuming it is to create mini-commercials in the videos :/. Thanks for the informative videos and guidance. 🙏

When do you think it's beneficial to hire a manager for finding brand deals?
It’s a good question! Hello, is it normal for a small brand to want to get on a 30 minute call?
Ooh this is a great question! I actually love brand calls because you get to know them and their goals better.
