I wanna give you some important context about that book you found in the tower talking about the "colours" of alchemy! Alchemy is performed through 4 different stages: nigredo (black), albedo (white), cinitras (yellow) and rubedo (red). Albedo references these stages in his ascension voicelines however he gets the last two stages wrong by swapping cinitras and rubedo, and thus putting rubedo "red" before cinitras "yellow". We thought for the longest time that albedo was wrong for whatever reason and it sort of puzzled us for a while... until we got that note in this quest. the note clears up that no the genshin team did not mix up the order of the achemical process (lol) and that rhinedottir (the one who taught albedo everyhting he knows about alchemy btw) and khaenriahns in general switched the order of rubdeo and cinitras on purpose. the writer of the note (who I can only assume is rene) is correcting and critiquing khaenriah on their views of the alchemical process. "yellow is simply bait. red is the final goal"
You can see/rewatch in Neuvillette's SQ cutscene, Seymour and Alain Guillotine was there before the battle of Elynas. It was animated. Neuvillette was somewhat tangentially involved with this.
i think you misunderstood jakob's and rene's characters a bit(actually i don't think they were that good with abyss, it wasn't their area of reaserch really, it was more khaenriah alchemy, primordial sea and remuria) and their plan. they didn't want the primordial sea to just rise and mix people's souls forever, their plan was to actually save everyone, not destroy the world and they didn't want wills to stay together, they planned to separate them back after. even the game describes rene as a person who almost saved the world. they actually had a good idea, the same that deshret for example had when he created the "golden slumber", sadly only a true descender like the traveler can gather people's wills and defeat fate, so rene's plan was doomed from the start and that's why we stopped him, because he would only make things worse. of course i'm not defending jakob and rene because they did a lot of insane things and were quite arrogant but their goal and motivations were legit and other important characters in lore tried to do the same but a bit differently also because you didn't explore the area near the tower before it disappeared you missed an important note and i don't think you can find it now this is what it said "The Tower of Ipsissimus comes from an old concept from the ancient Fontainian kingdom of Remuria, and was used to describe a powerful will that could rule, sustain, and destroy the world. This tower was designed by the Narzissenkreuz Ordo, and it represents the evolution of the human soul and the infinite mysteries of the world. The Narzissenkreuz Ordo believes that people continuously refine themselves through samsara cycles. These include Hyperborea, Natlantean, Remuria, and the first half of the fourth samsara (Khraun-Arya), which we are presently experiencing. (Most of the names have been struck out...)" oh and you didn't read the whole note on 2:23:00 and missed the fact that allain worked with neuvillette. allain appears in the cutscene from neuv story quest 2:45:02 no, it says that if you recieve a vision you become a slave of fate, you can't be free so getting a vision is a bad thing. not that if you have a strong will you recive a vision after that you also missed one of the most important lore notes which was connected to childe, it was written by rene ""Io, Io, Pan! That which lies beneath the great sea!" The purpose of this line in the ritual scripture is to forsake the self and sink into the abyss, and in the abyss, to welcome rebirth as a holy infant. The origin of this is a tragedy of unknown provenance that has been passed down by persons unknown to this day. Said play is called "Ajax," or "Aias." He was the second-strongest warrior in his alliance. "Lies beneath the great sea" is, itself, an interesting phrase. It comes from ancient Sumeru texts, and should be read as "Narayana," which also means "primordial human." This, too, is my goal, for not all that comes from beyond may be as one that "descends." That title belongs only to wills that can rival an entire world. That is what I seek, the way to become just such a will, one that can protect the world, sustain the world, destroy the world, and create the world."
I personally disagree that I misrepresented them that much honestly, may have missed some stuff tbh but all of my reasoning are what I said in the video. I don't think I ever said they wanted the world to be destroyed, even said that they thought they were saving people. Never said that they wanted the ocean to rise either. Also its a 4 hour video honestly and I stand by most of what I said and the stuff I don't remember well its a 4 hour video lmao So I dunno, I don't think I was unfair to them in any way, even talked about how Rene should not have even been in that position.
I love this quest. It was about 4 kids that were doing things greater than life. Especially Rene. Not because he wanted to, but because he believed it was the only way to save them :( P.S. Basil Elton (woman in the photo) was just pure golden kindness. I need her in-game.
Something about the quest line really struck a chord with me, I think the accompanying music does a lot of work but there's just this underlying feeling of childlike wonder and nostalgia throughout the entire thing. And these were all relatively normal people, not gods or dragons or even vision holders that the game's stories typically revolve around, who left such a mark on the world's history. Genshin's world quests have all been great ever since Sumeru but I think the Narzissenkreuz quests are my favorite.
i know this is way late, but the pronounciation for Narzissenkreuz is "Narts - sis - sen - croits". For everyone who dont know too! :) (The "oi" in "croits" you pronounce how you would pronounce "groin")
@Inumaki116 As a German speaker, how hard was it to go thru the cringey German pronunciations in Mondstadt? I speak Japanese and play the Japanese dub, but some playthroughs I watch are in English, and it just bothers me that they can't even get "Inazuma" right

It's so cool you get to keep the holy blade as a weapon to use after this quest. That thing is permanently equipped to my traveler until Hoyo decides to release the sword from the original intro CS. Others have mentioned it but Caterpillar's story isn't quite finished yet, kind of like how Jeht still had a bit of an epilogue that you missed initially. Good thing for a final "Fontaine cleanup episode" if you ask me..
I think chronologically, the Narzissenkreuz questline occurs before Fontaine Act V, which makes the entire dive into the primordial sea that much more terrifying. The actual AQ does make a few references to this storyline, there's the aforementioned cameos of Alain in Neuvillette's SQ and the mentions of Jakob Ingold's research in Vacher's notes, but Furina can also be seen hugging Seymour in a drowned Fontaine in her character trailer!
Indeed. Basically Narcissus wanted to save ppl of Fontaine from the disaster (which we prevented). I think his world formula calculations has shown the inevitable end of the current civilisation and of the whole life on Teyvat anyway, but the most pressing and imminent one was the drowning prophecy, so doing this quest after dealing with the prophecy kind of kills the suspense and sense of urgency and impending doom. UPD. Just watched till the conversation with Rene. Turns out there are different dialogue lines if you’ve completed the archon quest before! Makes sense.

A descender is one who's will rivals a world. Said Rene He wanted and almost succeeded in becoming a descender The holyblade is itself a descender The blade of reason that can cut through will itself
Also another important fact as mentioned by ordo notes:(I'm paraphrasing) Every being that descends from outer world is not a descender. Instead it is one whose will can rival the will of whole world. Even beings from this world can become descenders as Rene(aka Narzissenkreuz) tried. Perhaps this is the reason why, traveller is a descender while his/her sibling is not because traveller has a will strong enough to rival the world while their sibling's can't.
2:45:20 I think this note might mean a bit of something different to how you interpreted it. I believe what it is saying is that: receiving a vision is like selling yourself to the fate of this world. And that once you have a vision you can no longer walk the “correct path” Idk what all that means tbh I’m not one of those lore or theory geniuses. But yeah when u read the note once over more you’ll probably see it as well
Narzissenkreuz plan was to merge all wills together when the flood comes, thus saving the mind of everyone and after the flood and the All Devouring Narwhal leaves he will use the Holy Blade to separate all the merged will from himself, thus saving all life. But his plan though indeed could have worked, it was doomed from the start as he doesn't have the strong enough will to contain all the wills of the people. Only a Descender can do that, thus he wanted to become a Descender himself. Also him being in the Primordial Sea made it so that he didn't see Focalor's plan succeeding, thus making all the things he tried to do meaningless, but his paranoia didn't let him to sit back. And with this quest we know more about what makes a Descender a Descender. There was a in the tower you missed since you didn't explore the area before but I think it can still be found underwater. The note basically says that not all those who descends can be a Descender, and also says that to become a Descender one needs the strong enough wills to rival an entire world. This will can be to Create, Sustain, Destroy or Protect the World. This might be the reason why the Sibling isn't a Descender even though both came from beyond the Stars. We already kinda saw all powers or wills of the previous Descenders if you think about it. The First Descender remade an entire world so that humans can live in it. The Second Descender wanted to destroy that world, and affects of the abyss still hasn't gone away. The Third Descender might have had the will to Sustain the world, and that might be the role of Gnosis. Basically giving energy boosts to the protectors(Archons) of the land also amass massive amounts of energy when the protectors of the land need it. And might even be the keys to sealing the abyss. The last part of this yapfest is just my theory though. If anyone reads through all of this, thanks for reading everything I yapped on and on.
I don't know if you pieced it together or I missed it, but an interesting thing is that Al and the other water animals themselves were Mary-Ann's representations of the children she played with (the most obvious ones are Al as Alain, and Jak as Jakob). Who knows if their personalities are accurate or not though ahah. This quest was long and sometimes complicated, but you understood it and its message so well! Your memory and attention to details always surpises me in every playthrough and make them so enjoyable to watch! :D There are some important details that are hidden in other quests or notes (both in Fontaine and Sumeru), and they are extemely interesting not only for this quest but also for the worldbuilding of Genshin in general. They can be hard to find and piece all together though, so in this case I think watching a lore video (after finishing the other quests of course) could help!
I think it's important to mention that Narzissenkreuz world farmula was right and him believing the apocalypse will come was not a delusion but what was really destined. Ofc, future world quests will further expand on the idea of "Fortuna" or fate. So, I shall not spoil the idea here any further. But the upcoming apocalypse didn't come to pass because of the existence of an entity called a descender aka traveller. Narzissenkreuz wanted to become a descender and even came close to it. But in the end his actions were meaningless because what was destined didn't come to pass because of a variable(the traveller). In a supposed parallel universe, where traveller doesn't exist, the plan of Narzissenkreuz will hold a lot of merit. Even rivaling the plan of a god like focalors. But ofc, in this universe, he didn't become "the hero who saves everyone" but "a vile dragon".
No he was delusional about his reasons to stop the apocalypse, and in my version of the game they even mention that he kept doing this even after we stopped it so he was delusional and then mistaken.

If I read these notes and for sure this would have saved everyone I have no Issue coming back in a later video and saying I am wrong lol obviously I could have worded it better about the end of the world stuff as he was right about that.
idk if anyone mentioned it yet but there is a out of bounds glitch you can do yo re-enter that primordial sea, its pretty cool and easy to perform I tried it myself and even got some friend in multiplayer to come down with me
Great job following all that! I love this story and all these characters so much. And I love the references to Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Honkai Impact, and other things. This whole quest series feels like a big mirror to the entire narrative of Genshin. Outstanding, from beginning to end. A must-play. **You gotta go finish a thing with Mamere. Very Important.* Tip: For Lyney's survival, replace Nahida with Layla:)
Another thing is the samsara cycles as in the cyclical nature of birth and demise of civilisations of world(the tiara artifact sets also mentions this). 1st cycle was hyperborea as in everything was covered by ice. then civilization rose from the ice and then destroyed. the 2nd era was natlantean where people overcame evil dragons. the 3rd was one exactly like me a hope for the future a fledgling barely out of the nest........ooops....sorry...my inner wanderer strikes again. the 3rd era was remurian. and the 4th/ current one cycle is khaenrian. As Nahida said, "Everything in this world runs in a loop". And this rabbit hole goes very deep. But ofc, if i were to discuss it any further, I'll be writing pages and pages of comments.
Now it's time to do Book of Esoteric Revelations! Justice for Rene! He did nothing wrong! (I'm joking haha) Also, although this questline has reached its climax here. There is an "epilogue" part to the story. If you truly want to see how everything ends for everyone, you can do the "Pursuit" and "Happy Birthday" quests which focus more on Caterpillar's ending, and a hint on his true identity / origins.

I wish Narzissenkreuz had unique boss battle music of his own just like Marana's Avatar had its own music that only ever plays during that fight. Narzissenkreuz had the general Fontaine battle theme. But I guess it has its own meaning. But i would have like if Narzissenkreuz had his battle theme.

By "Guillotine's world" they mean in a poetic way that out of the four of them Guillotine was the one that left a legacy (gardemeks, fontaine institute of engineering, etc) while the ordo fell to obscurity EDIT: kk you got the idea

i think you misunderstood jakob's and rene's characters a bit(actually i don't think they were that good with abyss, it wasn't their area of reaserch really, it was more khaenriah alchemy, primordial sea and remuria) and their plan. they didn't want the primordial sea to just rise and mix people's souls forever, their plan was to actually save everyone, not destroy the world and they didn't want wills to stay together, they planned to separate them back after. even the game describes rene as a person who almost saved the world. they actually had a good idea, the same that deshret for example had when he created the "golden slumber", sadly only a true descender like the traveler can gather people's wills and defeat fate, so rene's plan was doomed from the start and that's why we stopped him, because he would only make things worse. of course i'm not defending jakob and rene because they did a lot of insane things and were quite arrogant but their goal and motivations were legit and other important characters in lore tried to do the same but a bit differently
also because you didn't explore the area near the tower before it disappeared you missed an important note and i don't think you can find it now

I personally disagree that I misrepresented them that much honestly, may have missed some stuff tbh but all of my reasoning are what I said in the video. I don't think I ever said they wanted the world to be destroyed, even said that they thought they were saving people. Never said that they wanted the ocean to rise either. Also its a 4 hour video honestly and I stand by most of what I said and the stuff I don't remember well its a 4 hour video lmao So I dunno, I don't think I was unfair to them in any way, even talked about how Rene should not have even been in that position.

It was about 4 kids that were doing things greater than life. Especially Rene. Not because he wanted to, but because he believed it was the only way to save them :(

Something about the quest line really struck a chord with me, I think the accompanying music does a lot of work but there's just this underlying feeling of childlike wonder and nostalgia throughout the entire thing. And these were all relatively normal people, not gods or dragons or even vision holders that the game's stories typically revolve around, who left such a mark on the world's history.
Genshin's world quests have all been great ever since Sumeru but I think the Narzissenkreuz quests are my favorite.

It's so cool you get to keep the holy blade as a weapon to use after this quest. That thing is permanently equipped to my traveler until Hoyo decides to release the sword from the original intro CS. Others have mentioned it but Caterpillar's story isn't quite finished yet, kind of like how Jeht still had a bit of an epilogue that you missed initially. Good thing for a final "Fontaine cleanup episode" if you ask me..
"Order, Rituals, Laws" is the name of the combat music that plays inside the Tower. It is one of my favorite combat music in this game.
I think chronologically, the Narzissenkreuz questline occurs before Fontaine Act V, which makes the entire dive into the primordial sea that much more terrifying.
The actual AQ does make a few references to this storyline, there's the aforementioned cameos of Alain in Neuvillette's SQ and the mentions of Jakob Ingold's research in Vacher's notes, but Furina can also be seen hugging Seymour in a drowned Fontaine in her character trailer!
Indeed. Basically Narcissus wanted to save ppl of Fontaine from the disaster (which we prevented). I think his world formula calculations has shown the inevitable end of the current civilisation and of the whole life on Teyvat anyway, but the most pressing and imminent one was the drowning prophecy, so doing this quest after dealing with the prophecy kind of kills the suspense and sense of urgency and impending doom.
UPD. Just watched till the conversation with Rene. Turns out there are different dialogue lines if you’ve completed the archon quest before! Makes sense.

Also another important fact as mentioned by ordo notes:(I'm paraphrasing)
Every being that descends from outer world is not a descender. Instead it is one whose will can rival the will of whole world.
Even beings from this world can become descenders as Rene(aka Narzissenkreuz) tried. Perhaps this is the reason why, traveller is a descender while his/her sibling is not because traveller has a will strong enough to rival the world while their sibling's can't.
2:45:20 I think this note might mean a bit of something different to how you interpreted it. I believe what it is saying is that: receiving a vision is like selling yourself to the fate of this world. And that once you have a vision you can no longer walk the “correct path”
Idk what all that means tbh I’m not one of those lore or theory geniuses. But yeah when u read the note once over more you’ll probably see it as well
I think it about stela fortuna/constelation, when you have a vision your constelation is unlocked, therfore your fate is sealed

Narzissenkreuz plan was to merge all wills together when the flood comes, thus saving the mind of everyone and after the flood and the All Devouring Narwhal leaves he will use the Holy Blade to separate all the merged will from himself, thus saving all life. But his plan though indeed could have worked, it was doomed from the start as he doesn't have the strong enough will to contain all the wills of the people. Only a Descender can do that, thus he wanted to become a Descender himself. Also him being in the Primordial Sea made it so that he didn't see Focalor's plan succeeding, thus making all the things he tried to do meaningless, but his paranoia didn't let him to sit back. And with this quest we know more about what makes a Descender a Descender. There was a in the tower you missed since you didn't explore the area before but I think it can still be found underwater. The note basically says that not all those who descends can be a Descender, and also says that to become a Descender one needs the strong enough wills to rival an entire world. This will can be to Create, Sustain, Destroy or Protect the World. This might be the reason why the Sibling isn't a Descender even though both came from beyond the Stars. We already kinda saw all powers or wills of the previous Descenders if you think about it. The First Descender remade an entire world so that humans can live in it. The Second Descender wanted to destroy that world, and affects of the abyss still hasn't gone away. The Third Descender might have had the will to Sustain the world, and that might be the role of Gnosis. Basically giving energy boosts to the protectors(Archons) of the land also amass massive amounts of energy when the protectors of the land need it. And might even be the keys to sealing the abyss. The last part of this yapfest is just my theory though. If anyone reads through all of this, thanks for reading everything I yapped on and on.
I don't know if you pieced it together or I missed it, but an interesting thing is that Al and the other water animals themselves were Mary-Ann's representations of the children she played with (the most obvious ones are Al as Alain, and Jak as Jakob). Who knows if their personalities are accurate or not though ahah.
This quest was long and sometimes complicated, but you understood it and its message so well! Your memory and attention to details always surpises me in every playthrough and make them so enjoyable to watch! :D
There are some important details that are hidden in other quests or notes (both in Fontaine and Sumeru), and they are extemely interesting not only for this quest but also for the worldbuilding of Genshin in general. They can be hard to find and piece all together though, so in this case I think watching a lore video (after finishing the other quests of course) could help!

I think it's important to mention that Narzissenkreuz world farmula was right and him believing the apocalypse will come was not a delusion but what was really destined.
Ofc, future world quests will further expand on the idea of "Fortuna" or fate. So, I shall not spoil the idea here any further. But the upcoming apocalypse didn't come to pass because of the existence of an entity called a descender aka traveller. Narzissenkreuz wanted to become a descender and even came close to it. But in the end his actions were meaningless because what was destined didn't come to pass because of a variable(the traveller).
In a supposed parallel universe, where traveller doesn't exist, the plan of Narzissenkreuz will hold a lot of merit. Even rivaling the plan of a god like focalors. But ofc, in this universe, he didn't become "the hero who saves everyone" but "a vile dragon".

No he was delusional about his reasons to stop the apocalypse, and in my version of the game they even mention that he kept doing this even after we stopped it so he was delusional and then mistaken.

idk if anyone mentioned it yet but there is a out of bounds glitch you can do yo re-enter that primordial sea, its pretty cool and easy to perform I tried it myself and even got some friend in multiplayer to come down with me
Great job following all that! I love this story and all these characters so much. And I love the references to Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Honkai Impact, and other things. This whole quest series feels like a big mirror to the entire narrative of Genshin. Outstanding, from beginning to end. A must-play. **You gotta go finish a thing with Mamere. Very Important.*

Another thing is the samsara cycles as in the cyclical nature of birth and demise of civilisations of world(the tiara artifact sets also mentions this). 1st cycle was hyperborea as in everything was covered by ice. then civilization rose from the ice and then destroyed. the 2nd era was natlantean where people overcame evil dragons. the 3rd was one exactly like me a hope for the future a fledgling barely out of the nest........ooops....sorry...my inner wanderer strikes again. the 3rd era was remurian. and the 4th/ current one cycle is khaenrian.
As Nahida said, "Everything in this world runs in a loop". And this rabbit hole goes very deep. But ofc, if i were to discuss it any further, I'll be writing pages and pages of comments.

Also, although this questline has reached its climax here. There is an "epilogue" part to the story. If you truly want to see how everything ends for everyone, you can do the "Pursuit" and "Happy Birthday" quests which focus more on Caterpillar's ending, and a hint on his true identity / origins.

By "Guillotine's world" they mean in a poetic way that out of the four of them Guillotine was the one that left a legacy (gardemeks, fontaine institute of engineering, etc) while the ordo fell to obscurity
