Rich, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're welcome Steve!
Excellent tutorial , Thanks appreciate it.
Glad it was helpful!
Way back when Microsoft included printed manuals for DOS and Windows it had instructions on how to pull up all these special symbols. I don't remember how it's been decades since I did it. But all of them can be accessed with the keyboard. You need to know the value of them EG E2345 (I don't know if that's one) I had a printout of all of them . This is when using a computer you had to understand how it actually worked. So many things are still there dormant.
Yeah, things are so much easier today!
Hello Rich. Thank you for a very informative video-class. I'm using Mac but I'm sure I'll find a lot of similar fonts. You have shown the way of making it, really appreciate that, and thank you for the 💗fonts.🙏
On a Mac, you just use Font Book. All the glyphs are in there.
Great video.
Thanks Tim!
Great vid! Thank you. I never knew there were so many "things".
Lots of "Stuff" 🤪 to play with Todd.
Thanks Rich
My pleasure Andrew!
Egyptian hieroglyphics would be awesome to get a hold of too..Hhmm..now I'm thinking of the runic alphabet too!! Tell a story or poem in ancient languages...? That be awesome
There are literally hundreds of free fonts Jill.
By popular demand, *on a Mac,* open search (Cmd + Spacebar). Then type in “Font Book”. If you’re not already, make sure you click on the “4 squares” symbol, which switches you to Repertoire mode. This will show you all the glyphs, or characters, included in the font. *On Linux,* open the font-manager. No 3rd party software is needed for either O/S.
Awesome, thanks Rich!
Slightly quicker on Mac to press Control + Command + Spacebar for the Character Map app.
Rick, thanks for the info. Great stuff.
Rich, sorry for the Rick. I just had surgery after cutting thumb on table saw. Typing was not great before accident, now, well...
You bet!
Hope you heal quickly Chris!
Well now I could of used those a couple of months ago when I was making a sign for a Indian family, I managed to do it via google translate, but that one you showed us, would of made things so much easier. I will be using the charcter font in the future
Awesome Ian!
Great video Rich. Are you planning on making a video showing us how to engrave a long sign, etc like you show in this video? Maybe explain how to reposition the board so it lines up properly? Might also be really good for those tall Christmas signs that people have.
Yes Andy, I have the passthrough video on my list.
I never thought about "private use" characters in a font. You can do the same thing in linux with various font managers that are available in the repositories. The one I use is called, oddly enough, 'font-manager' 😆 Good tip!
Yes! I didn't mention the different O/Ss because it would confuse too many folks. But Font Book on a Mac, and font-manager in Linux both don't need a 3rd party app!
Thanks
No problem! Thanks so much for the support @karenamurray1962
Thank you. I've sent a small tip.
Got it! Thanks so much for the support!
Thanks for more info. I watch on android in bed at night (broken Body LOL) then I can't wait to go and look at PC in the morning and most of the time I have forget by the morning😂😂😂😂😂😂, I'll have to watch what characters I use may offend someone lol
I can't watch videos on a small screen.

Good video Rich. I thought they said at the LBX conference they were looking at how to make use of glyphs easier in a soon to be update. Am I mistaken?
Also, because you got my curiosity up I researched how to do the process you discussed with Windows machines on a MacBook. I am on a family vacation at the moment, but will add an addendum video to what you published on adding glyphs in windows next week. I hope I remember to do so now that I mentioned it. Unless of course you publish one before I do. Then, I will just rely on you on how to get the information out. Thank you for all your efforts.
I didn't hear that Rob, but I was all over the place and could have missed it. On a Mac, open search, Cmd + Spacebar. Then type in “Font Book”. If you’re not already, make sure you click on the “4 squares” symbol, which switches you to Repertoire mode. This will show you all the glyphs, or characters, included in the font.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I am not sure I heard the thing about Glyphs - that's why I asked if you heard that. I have to go see if they've posted the conference videos - then I can crusie through them quickly. Thought I would ge an email or something once they have them posted. I figured out how to fid the glyphs on MacBook but in your video you said something like Mac users will need to figure out how they do the same thing as Windows. Not sure if its worth it to you, but maybe a small video add on that tells Mac people what you just told me may be helpful to others. Thanks again for all your efforts.
I don't have a Mac Rob.
Hi there Rich, as usual a top class video. Any ideas to get similar fonts for Mac?
Most of the free fonts have the otf version for the Mac Gilbert. Just download them and double click them to add them to your Font Book.
So much information in this guys head. Awesome. Where do you get the "font awesome" I can't seem to find it
fontawesome.com/search?m=free&o=r
Yeah, I was one of those who bought the swoosh font and it's a pain in the ass to use without illustrator.
Pretty simple this way!
I didn't go through to see if anyone already said this, but the ( and ) are parentheses, and not normally called brackets. [ and ] are commonly called brackets or square brackets. { and } are usually called curly brackets. I suspect some viewers may have been thinking of the wrong thing when you said brackets, so it was good you showed the parentheses.
Yes, I misspeak a lot 🤪 Old age.
Thank you so much for this. I think there is something going on with my computer. I don't have the Bellarose or the comic book one. I seem to be missing some.
No, you have to download and install them.
I love what you are showing here; however, when I downloaded the Character Map UWP I found that it didn't have the some of the fonts You were using. When I copied and pasted to my Lightburn page, it comes up in the font that is listed on the top of Lightburn. I can't find the same fonts you used in the downloaded app. Do you have to download the fonts you demonstrate before you utilize this program? If so, I guess I missed you saying it in the video.
The font you use in UWP has to match the font you're using in Lightburn. Free font websites are in the description.
Life saver thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Several of the online font sites offer the ability to type in your own phase and it will display the phase in the various fonts. Is there a similar program for the PC where I can give it a phase and see the phase displayed in all of the fonts installed on my computer?
I really don't know.
In Calligraphy, these are called "flourishes".
Nice.
I enjoy your videos. I am trying to download the Character Map UWP and after install I click on open and all I see are the fonts that are already on my laptop. I don't get the big box showing all the different styles. What am I doing wrong?
I don't know. It works on all 4 of the shop computers.
Hi Rich, great video and very well explained. I do have a problem though when i copy and paste the comic boom icons it just comes up as a rectangle and if i use ctrl and v it comes out as a bracket in front? Is there a setting i need to change in lighteoom that enables the glyph feature? Thanks,Mike
You need to have the same font selected in Lightburn.
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy yeah. Thanks Rich. I found it out by accident and pure chance. 😁👍
Good morning, thank you for this video, I just downloaded character map uwp and it works but bellarose demo doesn't show up so far
You have to have the font installed.
Great video Rich as always. But when I click on a letter and copy it I don't get that same letter in lightburn is there a way to fix this.
Select the font name in Lightburn.
Love it Got it Thank you very much@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
Great video, per usual! Character Map UWP doesn't see many of my fonts. The regular character map shows the fonts that Character Map UWP is missing. I haven't figured out why just yet.
I can't imagine why. It works fine on all 4 shop machines.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy My machine is just being weird.
Try restarting it Pop-Pop.
Restarting didn't fix it. I'm still playing with it. This is my third time saying this but it keeps disappearing.
Hey Rich would you be able to explain to me why whatever private letter I’m copying and pasting in Lightburn is not looking the same?
Like for example in one of my private area for the letter A that has a tail to it I copy it and I paste it in Lightburn. It’s coming out as a checkmark. Please help .
Thank you in advance Sharmaine
Yes, you have be in the same font in Lightburn.
I wonder if you could draw your own and add to this character map.
Yes, I use FontCreator 15.
Hi Rick I downloaded the character map uwp but it won’t bring up all of my fonts how do I get the ones I downloaded to show up thanks
You have to install them.
In this video you talked about Font Awesome where can I buy that assortment
I got it on one of the free font websites.
Where did you get your fontawsome from I can't find it
fontawesome.com/search?m=free&o=r
Hello Rich, Thanks for the great video, very informative. One problem, I am not able to find the symbols in the "Font Awesome" on the Dafonts web site. It does show 41 file to download, but which one?
fontawesome.com/search?m=free&o=r
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thanks again. Unless I am missing something, I thought it was downloadable. install and use as other fonts on PC.
It is.
I installed Character Map and don't have any of the fonts or private use that you are using in the video.
I have direct links to my favorites in the description. It doesn't get much easier.
What if you do not have the bellarose demo? How do you get it?
Just search on Google for it. I also put links in the description to some of my favorite free fonts.
I done exactly what you did but Bellarose Demo is not on the list.
www.dafont.com/bellarose.font
Thank you for sending the link, keep up the great work!
11:57 -- those are parenthesis, not brackets. [ and ] are brackets. Otherwise, great video -- thanks!
My degree is in Computer Science, so yeah, I know that with 40 years of coding experience. I misspeak quite a bit and don't edit down the videos to be perfect.
I have windows 10 and mine doesn't have belarose demo
You have to download the font and install it. Links in the description.
so how do I know where text/font is without going thru each one
I don't know!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy ok. Just didn’t know if there was a way to search instead of scrolling through each one.
sadly neither of these font families are on the app I just downloaded
There are thousands of free fonts available on the Internet. I listed some in the description.
I have the Character map that you showed . When i copy Charactor then past into lightburn all i get is a square .Could there be a stetting i need to change .
Same problem here. All I get is a headphone icon when I paste.
@@jonwoodworker In lightburn the font needs to match the font in the character map app
If you select the square and then choose the fancy font in the drop down menu, it'll fix it. Lightburn remembers the last font you use, so you have to change it to the fancy font in Lightburn first.
@@davidmcelroy3113 How do you add fonts to the Lightburn menu?
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy The fonts you gave us for free (Thank you) don't come up in Character Map. I have to hit menu then open font folder. This brings up a second Character Map window. Even then it doesn't have the fonts in your video like Belarose Demo, I can't find that anywhere. There is no prompt to add fonts to Character Map.
Has character map uwp stopped working since lightburn updates
No, it's not part of Lightburn. Make sure you have the same font selected in Lightburn as in UWP.
Many thanks for your reply what i meant was when i followed your video and when you copied a font in character map uwp then went to lightburn and right clicked on the mouse to paste the font mine doesnt copy over to lightburn properly sorry thats what i should of wrote originally@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
Again, you have the same font selected in Lightburn as in UWP.
Many thanks for your help i appreciate that @@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
it just give me chinese (?) signs if i copy and then paste in lightburn 😞
You have use the same font in Lightburn.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thank you so much 🤩 great
Thank you Rich for all you do. However, them are parentheses not brackets. These are brackets[ ] these are parentheses( ).
If we are going to nitpick everything then you should know that "However, them are parentheses,,,) should read " However, THOSE are parentheses"!
But almost everyone watching the video and reading your comment knew exactly what each of you were trying to communicate.
Well I downloaded and installed the character map uwp files and it will not function properly. I only get to see the standard windows set of characters.
Have you downloaded and installed any of the free fonts in the description?
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I have download some but have not tried them yet. I think somehow the search function on my computer is messed up. I've had a problem with other library files not loading correctly. But I don't know how to fix it.
Sorry I can't help with software issues. 😩
Thanks Rich
I appreciate that, *thanks!*
