Another awesome video, thanks for sharing these buddy, I would honestly like you simply walking around with beautiful scenes like this video...great vids please keep uploading thanks from Columbus Ohio!!
Enjoying your channel. We will be visiting your island in the spring for bird watching. Love your drone views of the whales and the island. I hope the birding tourists helps the economy and are respectful of your world. Are there locals that know the birds well?
I think it is great that there are still natives living as they had been for many thousands of years. Not caught up living the life in the concrete jungle. With the real wild animals called humans who most are self absorbed and never satisfied regardless what they have and it's never enough.
How do you keep food for winter ie berries greens etc ? Do you melt seal/ whale fat coat berries to preserve them ? Does the sun set and not come up for while your area like some part Alaska in winter ?
We have freezers at home that we keep our foods in! And fortunately, we do get sunlight even on the shortest days of the year. Right now we’re at just a little over 4 hours of daylight.
Yes, on my dad’s side! My mother is from Japan but my dad’s side of the family has lived on the island their whole lives. Both my grandparents on my dad’s side are no longer with us unfortunately. Thanks for watching!!!
There were a lot that I liked about being in the Pacific Northwest! I just felt called to return home and be more proactive in the community. Especially with the youth.
So you guys have a public works right. Don't they need workers winter time to help clear snow. I work in the power plant here in kaktovik ak. Pretty much almost the same all over in alaska.
Not anything in particular. Right now I’m subbing at the school and coaching high school basketball. Kids will visit one another or play outside. During the school year, the school gym is open for the community in the evening and all the kids will go play at the gym during their time slot. Thank you!
Good question! There are regions in Alaska that get dividends from their corporations. A lot of it comes from the oil in Alaska. But we don’t get dividends from our corporations unless you work for the corporations. We’re not on the oil line so we don’t get those same dividends that some regions get.
As a Canadian (BC) I'd hate to think if there's a tarrif war between our countries, how would people survive with you mentioning the majority of the population on subsidies.
I assume you can receive US Postal mail. Why not "shop" for most canned/packaged goods on Amazon? Ex commercial fisherman here, would like to send you some gear, hooks that you could in your area, I no longer need. I've fished BC and Alaska, so I know what is likely useful to you. I would mail with US Priority mail if you can receive those. Just need an address.
We do order a lot of common groceries and supplies off Amazon if it’s shipped with Prime. My email is under my channel. You can reach me there for my address! Thanks!
Just wondering, why the villagers in such small and isolated community, where imho your neighbor must be your best friend, why don't you guys join forces and build an indoor community green house, where you can grow must of the fruit and vegetables year long?????????????????????
Is there no possibility of marine or fish-farming (those mussels you collect, etc) And look at Norway - Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout, cod, halibut, char, and certain other fish species, seaweed, mussels, and breeds fry for food fish production.? What about duck-farming? Hell ANYTHING you have there that could be (sustainably) commercialised? Those sea veggies you collect? Seaweed? (Here, NZ, we collect (Porphyra columbina) - it turns white when dried and is used by pharmaceutical companies. We can eat (should but don't lol) bladder seaweed - its like a kind of broadleaf sea veggie lol, and you must have lobster, sea urchins and abalone etc? And I I reckon a pretty big sunken winter solar greenhouse to grow veggies to save money would be great as a future COMMUNITY investment, for your location? (Here's the best example I watched on YT ruclips.net/video/ZD_3_gsgsnk/видео.html&ab_channel=KirstenDirksen I know these will cost $$$ to set up, BUT your community could brainstorm to start ONE idea on a small scale - and if that works - then build more and bigger! One day you could be like the 100% renewable energy island of Orkney, at the northern tip of Scotland - ruclips.net/video/8KsdCk3o170/видео.html&ab_channel=SkyNews.... I really hope you can be a catalyst for some future investment in your island - and more future YT stories lol!
I respect the commitment you have to your community. Thanks for giving me a glimpse into your world up there.
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching!

Grateful we’re able to still do so!
@WallaceUngwiluk I am happy you can still do so also. 😊

Have a lot of generations of your family lived on that island? Do you still have your granny and grandpa? ❤ Hugs from Minnesota!

Did not not like life after college in the more populated areas? Is that why you moved back?
There were a lot that I liked about being in the Pacific Northwest! I just felt called to return home and be more proactive in the community. Especially with the youth.
Never a bad moment seeing your face :)
Miss seeing yours Clay-dog

Yes, road maintenance works for the city.
What are you doing with your college degrees? What do kids do for fun? Love your channel

make a video on food!
Can you talk about any income received from dividends as part of the native corporation? Are you guys part of one of these?

Is there any form of law enforcement around? How do you guys handle things like potential crime/medical emergencies?
As a Canadian (BC) I'd hate to think if there's a tarrif war between our countries, how would people survive with you mentioning the majority of the population on subsidies.
Man bro, i give you props to live there, id visit , forsure. Would feel sense of loneliness , you ever wanna move to Anchorage just because?
I plan on being here for the next few years. But I do try to travel down to Anchorage and the states in the northwest to visit friends!
@WallaceUngwiluk happy holidays to you guys all in gambell, alaska in general is such a get away state.
Is everything expensive? Like internet? Gasoline?
Yes, everything here is more expensive because of the cost to get things shipped all the way out here.
