As a 16 year old Punk/Goth/New Wave fan in the 80’s(and still to this day!), SSS were light years ahead of their time and probably will be for decades to come!
Sigue Sigue Sputnik were way ahead of their time...i actually think their music would make more sense on this age we are living. Truely visionaries the electronic blended with rock the way they did it is just perfect, even the way they looked.
I love how the track is all programmed with one guitar track but the "live" performers have all the requisite "band" instruments...showing us all a view of the present where nothing is real.

From what I remember at the time TOTP changed the version to what EMI subsequently released so it matched the version that Radio 1 was giving airplay to. Martin basically had to wait to hear what was coming before he could mime it, so got caught out a couple times. BTW EVERYONE mimed on TOTP in those days. It was pre-requisite and the reason Sputnik pulled out of Mid Summers Tube, they hated miming.
Because of all the hype, the public ended up hating them, and stopped paying attention to the music. This is a shame, because the music is great when taken on it's own merits.
"Sigue" means OK in Tagalog ("Filipino"), and when in Philippines the first time in 1995, I heard from my (Filipina) wife that Sigue Sigue and Sputnik were two rivalizing MC gangs in the 60s and 70s...she thinks.
