Back in '85 or '86, my family played this game for the first time at a family-friend's house after a pool party. My dad was blown away and went out and bought the deluxe NES set (with duckhunt and gyromite) for our family. I've been a Nintendo nerd ever since. Thanks dad!
I love the history segments before the games as much as the games themselves, especially with things as interesting as light gun technology. Great work, as always!
I think that is what separates him from other channels. I like watching his videos cause he gives a history lesson, gameplay lesson, and the growth of the video game.
This really felt like a Christmas special. Best episode of the year right at the end. Didn’t know what to expect with duck hunt but it was fascinating and I liked the ending, well done!
When I first saw the thumbnail, I was thinking, "how can you possibly do a deep dive on such a surface level game?" Well not only was I wrong, but you even found a way to "beat" the game as well. Great job, and congrats on making it on the leaderboards.
I love that you worked with a speedrunner for this video and that you were even able to submit your own speedrun for Duck Hunt. The speedrunning community has always been a wonderful place for learning how to beat video games, so it's a lovely fit for this channel. And bravo on your 3rd Place kill screen run!
I love this channel. I feel like I go on a trip 30 years back to the past every single week. It's super nostalgic. The kid in me (that grew up playing all these games) is thankful for these videos.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how good of an interview that was? No missed beats, no wasted words, fillers (ums, ers) were absent and the questions were focused. Given your general cadence and smooth delivery, I feel like you have a background in media or at least a natural inclination for this type of work.
Duck hunt was such an iconic part of the nes, first time playing it was when I got my nes, Xmas 89, twas a good Xmas, Happy holidays to whoever reads this.
This was probably the most unorthodox episode but at the same time just as enjoyable as the rest. Between the history of light gun technology and having a world record holder on to tell people the tricks to use it was entertaining but it wasn't until the end that is became legendary when you hit the leaderboards as one of three people to reach the killscreen.
I remember that Christmas where I got the deluxe Nintendo set. Dad setup the unit, and we played Duck Hunt and Gyromite. Thanks for bringing back all those Christmas memories. Keep it up!
This channel feels both timeless like AVGN and super innovative and fresh all at once. I'd say you pioneered this type of genre. This feels like it came out in both 2011 and 2021 at the same time.
This was great. Bringing in a guest speaker for an otherwise repeatitive game was a genius move to make for a great and interesting guide video. Also dug the candle light ambience for the console dark room. As always, phenonmental video presentation decisions!
It was cool hearing your voice in a non-professional 'setting'. Alright, this was a special and awesome video. Good to hear from 'Carter44' in the interview segment. Good video, look foward to seeing more! (Betcha can't do 'Back to the Future'... Challenge issued!)
Such an awesome and simple opening title. The dog is badass too. Not over the top just super well done and right to turn point! Also, these videos or awesome. I’m def subscribing
This was so cool. Loved the tips with Carter and it was nice to relive this game from my childhood. Also it was fun playing with my sister and having the Zapper on the screen and getting yelled at. I am sure many others had similar experiences with their own siblings.
impressive, back the 80's i always thought the game would go on forever so i just played for the ducks going down also my mom was in wheelchair and VERY limited mobility with her body - she was able to shoot a few ducks. without aiming at the screen, now i realized it the light of the sun that caused her to hit cause the sun was shining directly through the window
@@hollyconnelly8871 Gotcha. It looked like a PS character. The character Im referencing is in PS4. Never got to play the others. Looks like I should now. Ty. Happy holidays.

Thank you, Merry Christmas, and happy new year. I didn't know duck hunt even had a record. I didn't know it had an end. My dad is a hunter, and back when I got my nes, he wasn't impressed. Then I showed him duck hunt. He used to stay up late after I went to bed, and drink beer and shoot ducks. That's what convinced him we didn't wast so much money on it. Thanks for letting me relive that. I still have an original gray gun, and a newer orange one. The original gray from my first nes is still working smooth. And I keep a couple old tube TV's around just in case.
Love your channel. I've noticed you've done most of my favorite NES games but two of my first: Lode Runner (actually my first) and Solomon's Key. (Probably my favorite).
Several years ago I wrote a short story about the cheerleader from Lollipop Chainsaw game jumping and one of the games she lands in is Duck Hunt where she ends up taking her chainsaw to the dog. To date it's my most popular scene in any story I've written. Hatred for that dog runs deep.
This may have been the easiest video to watch that I have ever seen. I didn't even realize that the video was over when it ended, because I was just enthralled by it. Nicely done, and congrats on the speedrun record! Hopefully, there are more interviews and speedruns to come, as thosey nice elements to add this time around!!
Nice! that's really cool. I really enjoyed the interview with the record holder, and the trick to cheese the game. I feel like an NES advantage controller with a rubber band would be the best way to take advantage of that strategy. Another thought though (kinda technical), but most developers understand the 255 roll over kill screens in games, but for anyone curious about the 99 roll over kill screen seen here: the 6502 CPU in the NES has a "decimal mode", where a byte skips the hex values for math (i.e. normally 9+1=A, and F+1=10 -- but if a game or program puts the CPU into decimal mode, 9+1=10!) The decimal mode made it easier for 6502 assembly programmers to display human readable numbers, but it collapsed the values a byte can hold down to 00-99, instead of 00-FF (0 to 255).
Thanks for the nice Christmas update, you manage to make videos that are useful AND instructive. They're very engaging, this is pure talent to make content for the Internet. And you still have the best casual gamer ever, give him some extra pats from me ;) I thought I knew a lot about Nintendo's history before the NES and lightgun related stuff, but clearly I didn't. Keep up the good work! Happy holidays!! 💗
