Well your right about that zalmaflash, the view don't change much, hopper cars in front of you. :-) But it's still a fun ride, smells better than the dogs have in the rear too.... Really appreciate your riding along with us in #22 locomotive and may you have a very good day my friend.
Thank you Tom., I don't know who takes care of track here.... must be good management.... LOL Really appreciate your riding along with us in #22 locomotive and may you have a very good day my friend.

I love seeing the EMD gauge showing “La Grange, IL” that’s where I live now. The EMD factory was actually in McCook but the mailing address was LaGrange.

Never really ceases to amaze me: Panning out along the side and things always "feel like" they're faster than they are. in this instance, 21-ish m.p.h.? Really? "Looks like" it's more than 35...
Trust me, even 15 mph is fast when you are a few feet above the ground. Hang on tight because even at that speed I would not want to meet mother earth or any infrastructure.
Thank you and glad you enjoyed Bassotronics. Really appreciate your riding along with us in #22 locomotive and may you have a very good day my friend. PS: Freddy, Corrie and Mrs. Dave are my supervisors..... :-)
With the huge following you have, i am surprised you dont have well over 100,000 subscribers! Dave you made great video didn't know that you were taking Fred's place for the day but it was fun thanks my friend I would have enjoyed it too always fun to be in the cab🎉
Thank you for this video! Interesting ride, even though three-quarters of the view was blocked by the dashboard, on which minimal instrumentation was visible. Beautiful views of verdant countryside when the camera was turned in that direction.
Your welcome and glad you enjoyed Robin. 2021 I still had a lot to learn about making videos, come to think of it, I still do! Really appreciate your riding along with us in #22 locomotive and may you have a very good day my friend.
Will Santa get to ride on the front end of a Christmas train? Maybe some of those antlers people roll up in their side windows put on the cab windows? Tis the season. Loved the ride in the rain.
Thank you, thank you, thanks you... If I could give this a triple like, I would!! I love videos like this that gives us "civilians" an insider look. So, when zero power is indicated, does that mean the train is just coasting along under it own momentum?
riding in the helper has to be nice! just sit back and enjoy the ride! it has to be neat to see the settings that the engineers drive the engine! perfect view of what the engineer sees, great job, have a great day dave! be safe out there!
We have Class 2 track here Michael and track speed is 25. Can you imagine trains that go 30 to 70 and the higher speed passengers trains that go 100! Wow. Speed record for a steam locomotive is around 115, sure couldn't do that on our track tho! Really appreciate your riding along with us in #22 locomotive and may you have a very good day my friend.

Cool Ride along in what I'd call a DPU? BTW: Are those tracks under the bridge also IRON Synergy trackage, or are those other railroads IRON Synergy just happens to cross over on those bridges? If they aren't IRON Synergy tracks below the bridges, which railroads do they belong to? Would be cool to see one train going over the bridge, while another would pass by on the lower tracks under the bridge.
Thank you and glad you enjoyed Mr. Bones. Don't know where you think you saw us going over other tracks, but we have no bridges at all over other tracks, highway roads yes and creeks, but no tracks. Really appreciate your riding along with us in #22 locomotive and may you have a very good day my friend.
@ccrx6700 strange, on my cell phone, the 2 bridges you showed your train crossing, both looked like they had railroad tracks going under them. And why I asked about them. Usually I can tell if it was a road, a stream, or river, but it sure looked like railroad tracks on my screen. Talk about an optical illusion.😱🤣🤣🤣
I have a question about notch numbers... Does each notch control just the amount of Amps generated (like notch 1 is say 100 amps, notch 2, 200, notch 3, 300 amps etc)? And then within each Notch number (say notch 5), is there a separate speed pedal to fine tune how many MPH you wish to travel at? Thanks. Learning as just a curious bystander who enjoys watching your channel.
Thank you and glad you enjoyed Cookie Cookie. No one is normally present in a remote controlled loco. I was just there because 22 had some mechanical issues and i was there in case something popped up, but it didn't. Thank you and glad you enjoyed David and yes it is a nice view. That was taken before we got all the brush cut back from the tracks that year. Really appreciate your riding along with us in #22 locomotive and may you have a very good day my friend.
With a locomotive on the head of the train and a locomotive at the rear, at what point along the train will there be slack while running? I am guessing this changes with the grade changing up and down. Is there special consideration the engineer has to give to this? Thanks Dave, I enjoy your videos.
Your right Brian, pretty cool stuff. I had forgotten I made this video and just found it in the archives, figured bout time to show it. Really appreciate your riding along with us in #22 locomotive and may you have a very good day my friend.
Another great ride, Dave. Southern Pacific was well known in their day for having a good number of manned-helper districts, and it has always been a fascinating aspect of railroading for me. I know this arrangement is more similar to a DPU operation vs. an engineer in the helper actually working the throttle, but the view and the sensations are similar. I always wanted to ride along with the SP helper crews to experience their part of moving the heavy tonnage over the "Hill". So, you might be able to answer a question that I have wondered many times. The ammeter here was showing 600-amps for a good while. Does that equate to 600-amps per traction motor, or 600-amps total being fed to all 6 traction motors? I've never been 100% clear about that. My suspicion is 600 per motor. Thanks, buddy! 🤠👍
@@espeescotty on that loco amp gauge reads off #2 traction motor. Not all locos are set up like that. So yes 600 amps going to each motor. I know zero about how GE is set up, nor how the locos with computers read off of.
Dave, another wonderful video. As an aside question, what would happen if there was a coupler break mid-train? I know that the lead engine is pulling and the trailing engine is pushing but I would assume there would be a gap produced to have the brake lines separate, would the train go directly into emergency brake? I'm just wondering how the trailing engine would function in that event.
Very good question Dave and you are right, if there is a car separation for whatever reason, coupler break or derailment, etc. Then once the air is lost that signals the remote system to shut off any and all functions happening on the end of train loco. Imagine having the EOT unit still shoving in 8 if there was a derailment the further damage that would cause. So there is a fail safe built into the remote system so that doesn't happen. Same with the dead man or alerter in the lead loco, if it goes off, that negates all functions on the EOT unit. However in all cases it will not shut the EOT engine off, just throttling or dynamic braking. Really appreciate your riding along with us in #22 locomotive and may you have a very good day my friend.

That was so cool Dave, I recognized a lot of those places on the railroad, from our ride along in your hyrail! (Dave).
Dave you are too much fun it’s like you are riding the train at Kennywood. Love the video and be safe

Not sure I could get used to driving “blind” like that with no idea what’s in front of the train. Cool video, though.
I was not driving however if I was then I would follow the orders

Brilliant sound. That took me back to the day I was lucky to get a cab ride on a loco hauling a heavy train of steel. Sure taking a lot of amps there.

heavy loads for sure makes those engines work. Really appreciate your riding along with us in #22 locomotive and may you have a very good day my friend.

Channel 8 is my favorite
Nothing like notch 8 to make you feel the locomotive working. A lot of amps and a lot of noise from the engine :)

And the phone battery was 98%😂 and 2476 in-SMS😅
Does the lead locomotive know if the locomotive in the back has wheel slip and can throw sand ?
Good video davies

not bad train handling on wet rail
Dave, another wonderful video. As an aside question, what would happen if there was a coupler break mid-train? Very good question Dave and you are right, if there is a car
separation for whatever reason, coupler break or derailment,
etc. Then once the air is lost that signals the remote system
to shut off any and all functions happening on the end of
