This is one of my favourite ever games. Market trader sold it to me for a fiver a couple of weeks back. Hadn't played it since 1991.championship mode is the shit. Me and my 7 yr old son love to bond playing this. They nailed it with this one and it's got that timeless classic feel that shinobi on megadrive has.

Dude, this is the game that got me into F1. I played this game so much and memorized the tracks. Then finally when you're able to get a better car, that sweet feeling of being faster... so awesome.
What an excellent game! You have to play it twice to access all the teams and the best car gives you the opportunity to pass through all curves at full speed...👍
I've always deplored that - during the race, all the cars got the same color except the player and the rival. You never know who you're dealing with... 'till the finish line and the results.
First 10 rating in EGM by Ed Semrad, I believe. Beat it many times, but never win either of the first 2 races in the second season. Sadly, the video output lag in HDMI screens makes this unplayable now.
On the Genesis I used to challenge and beat Madonna in San Marino, skip Brazil and then beat them again in France and be offered the seat. I was just playing this on the emulator the other day but now Rigel challenges me in France every time! lol whats up with that. What's worse is that after I win France, but Crash Hungary, Minarae drops me and I have to drive for Comet. 2 wins in 4 races not good enough for a borderline D class team now? that's not how it used to be!
I know Your comment is from 5 years, but I'll answer. If you don't Challenge in a Race, you are challenged on the next race. So in Brazil, Challenge a different car. When I play, I challenge Blanche at San Marino and France. So, I got It in Hungary. Brazil, I challenge Madonna.
Heh, nice to see this version played to completion! I never could get anywhere because of some odd issue that'd stay unless I pulled a hard reset. After a while, just even tapping turn would cause my car to stop. No trouble, just it becomes impossible to make a turn because the steering wheel became a more effective braking solution than the brakes themselves. I could pit and the issues would stop for around 20 seconds before coming back. It'd persist through soft resets, even!
I shit you not, my nan passed away 3 weeks ago and i have been going through her stuff this past week and i found in my old study (bedroom at my nans) a load of pics i had drawn of cars i had made up based on this game with stats and fake engine names etc haha. all based on "choose your rival" screen
One of my first genesis games. Didnt really care for it at first because i never understood the concept of rivals and moving up in the ranks. Once i figured that out, i beat the game. Had the fastest car and would never lose. I used to go straight for madonna. If you can win once and get picked up by a better team, your car gets infinately better. If i remember right, madonna and firenze had the best cars?
Haha I used to be terrible at this, probably because I always chose auto transmission and just floored it until I inevitably spun off at the next corner
It took me some time to get good at this no lie. When I did, I went straight for MADONNA. I was on their team by Round 4. Brazil was a bitch and France was a speedway so I beat A. Asselin on his own turf lol. I think Team Firenze's car is more solid though and it's the only V12 in the game 😈
That turn in Brazil is legitimately the hardest part in the game when you're trying to beat your rivals. It's not so bad in a good car but in that starter car it's murder.
Well, if you drove like that on a public highway you'd deserve to be called a raving maniac! 25 years I was in the Police Force and quite honestly I have never seen anybody drive quite like that!
The craziest part is the first round of the second year, when this new guy Ceara (who looks a bit like Ayrton Senna, plus Ceara sounds like Senna) outpaces you and everyone else with Bullets.
One of the most difficult things in this game are 2 in my opinion... First, to beat Ceara at the 2nd season with Madonna car And Second, Win the Brazilian Gp with Minarae

Mez Hossain The thing I like about the May car, is the engine speeds. Although I've heard that in the end, the Bestowal car is the best by virtue of handling, if I ever play again, I'll probably stop with Millions by virtue of them being based off of Williams. (I obviously wasn't an F1 fan when I first played this game!)
you can take place 1 with the first car mnare in san marino and in france, i just never managed to get place 1 in brazil with minare. I used to challenge Madonna in SanMarino and Firenze in Brazil and Madonna again in France. After that you get Madonnas car and you own Hungary ;D Classic Game ;)
I used to like to challenge MAY driver and take that car all the way to the championship... otherwise there was no challenge until trying to retain the title against the Senna lookalike..

My cheap trick is to hit my rival at the beginning so he'd fall behind, after the 2nd race his team is mine haha The same cheap trick is what I do to G. Ceara on 2nd season, he just never give up on challenging me haha

I was very good at this when I were a lad.i could get into the Madonna team within 2 races.straight up no bullshit.and in the 2nd season I could still beat the bullitt driver and avoid getting demoted!!!

I know I could get on Madonna early but I think Firenze has the overall solid car and it had that V12 🔥😈. I like Bestowal as well but the Transmission wouldn't let you achieve that top speed... although agreed it handled perfectly
After many hours of practise I can finally win a race in this most excellent of driving games. I'm curious though, why is the aspect square in this video and not 4:3?
This was brilliant to play when i was a youngster. I liked working my way up through the teams too but why was Bullets always faster than us in the 2nd year ? i enjoyed this ,thanks.
Because you had to have someone to win over, in the first year you were working your way up. The game would have been boring if you spent the whole second year winning constantly :)

In the second season there was a driver who was really fast and eventually would take my seat - you've just confirmed what I suspected but wondered about for all these years!! It was written into the game!!
@@manchesterfellow oh yeah, it was scripted big time. He just overtook you at twice your speed and then just stay at the same speed as you just always staying a second ahead of you.
There is a cheat for sennas smgp 2 .first put in the smgp cart in the console,then take out the cart without switching off the console,then put in the senna smgp 2 cart in and press reset and then go to the rival challenge mode and u should be able to change the grid before the race and finish 1st without racing!

My 2nd Fav game on the MD. Always thought that the MD Pad really needed shoulder buttons for this game, just for the gears.
The Firenze car is the best. Just as fast as the Madonna car but you don’t get bombarded with rival challenges.

I used to always try and win a race with cars of different colors. Even if I downgraded to Zeroforce, I wanted to drive as many cars as I could.

It didnt feel right if you didnt send him off into space at the end of a race.
